2026 Recruiting: Abdou Toure Announces Top Seven

I know absolutely nothing about this kid’s recruitment aside from what’s in the public eye but I get more Tyler Betsey vibes than Donovan Clingan vibes.
I know nothing about this recruitment either but it'll fall in line with kids from CT not being very big UConn fans.

There's probably ways to fix this if UConn views this as a serious problem unless they don't mind missing out on the top 50 CT player every few years.

Is it CT kids not being fans of Uconn or Uconn not going out of their way for CT kids? I just don't know if Hurley & Staff put a lot of stock into keeping home growns & their recruiting is more intentional on the right fit than the narrative. When your brand is top 5 and attracts kids all over the country, just not sure you need to obligate to keeping the in state kids.

Our staff has shown they won't prioritize a player in-state if he isn't the right skill/attitude fit. Ie. London Jemison.

We've watched Toure a lot. It means we're interested in him joining our program. Maybe not as much as some others... but I assure you Luke, Kimani and Nardi aren't flying around the country just because they can.

If this was 2021, I suspect we'd be ALL over him, but in the transfer era, it takes a special kid to accept the role they're going to play as a low 5* or less recruit. Abraham and Nowell weren't willing to accept a developmental role behind better, older players. Hopefully Toure will be.

UConn along with Providence, Arkansas, Louisville, Oregon,Florida and Maryland

If he wants the money, it’ll be Cal & Arkansas.. if he wants some money, get coached by the best staff in the country, prob compete for a title and still go to the league after maybe 2 years- UConn is a no brainer.

I hate this whole idea and acting like a kid going somewhere else is a character flaw. Our NIL is strong as hell.

Didn’t say ours wasn’t, but those dudes are willing to give dudes like a million, i don’t think we’re doing that.

Yes we are doing that.

I don't know how many times it has to be said on here or SC. Our NIL is competitive as hell. We are not overpaying for guy (like BYU) butnwe are putting up market rate numbers for everyone on our roster.

It’s even funnier when you realize we’re probably top 10 in NIL spending. Maybe slightly behind the Arkansas and Dukes of the world, but in the same ball park as them easily.
Are you both talking about NIL or revenue sharing? Or a combination of the two that you're generalizing as NIL? Because with the new rules NIL won't be as much as it was the last couple years. Unless you have someone like Cooper Flagg come along who can get national advertising opportunities, the NIL dollars won't be that large.

For example, Darryn Peterson at Kansas is ranked as the top 2025 recruit (by 247Sports) and might be as good as Cooper Flagg in his one year in college. But will we see him on national TV ads that would be worth big bucks? The local Lawrence/Kansas City based businesses can't give him more than what is market for a local ad.

They all told us Cooper Flagg was a "generational talent" just last year. Now this kid is just as good??? 🙃

I am just generalizing. The point being we pay our players handsomely, just like the schools people here love to talk down on.

I believe we are just outside the top 10 in that category. Norlander wrote an article recently that had UConn in the “tier 2” behind a top 10 in the 10 million dollar club.

Was there 10 schools in tier 1? I also doubt Norlander got permission to post our budget from anyone within the program officially.

Except this coming season is the last for this type of NIL. So no recruits and transfers are getting that kind of money going forward with the new rules and revenue sharing. Why does everyone forget about this? I think I’ve posted about it, including articles, about 10 times in the last few months.

Yeah there were 10 albeit it’s more of a calculated guess than fact
  • Arkansas
  • BYU
  • Duke
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Louisville
  • Michigan
  • North Carolina
  • St. John's
  • Texas Tech

I didn’t forget about that. I’m talking about the right now. Could that be different in a few months? Sure.

Got it. Starting in 2026-2027 season this NIL stuff won't be an issue.

It's alarming (and yet: not surprising!) just how quickly all this money has flooded into college basketball from the wallets and bank accounts of boosters and hopeful alumni. Another catalyst: The expected "cap" limit from schools' revenue sharing and the arbitration on "true NIL" that's supposed to take hold once/if the House settlement goes into effect this summer. In advance of that, boosters are trying to front-load deals for players to get them to sign.

On3 thoughts on the Toure-to-UConn chatter:

Speaking with sources around this recruitment, the school everyone seems to be watching to see how they move is UConn... even while they are still watching UConn, that the Razorbacks were picking up momentum.

Article includes Bryson Howard notes, but not much on UConn there:

The 6-foot-4 guard has also nailed down seven official visit dates. Texas A&M (Aug. 29), UNC (Sept. 5), Texas (Sept. 12), Duke (Sept. 19), Houston (Sept. 26), Kentucky (Oct. 4), UConn (Oct. 17), and Tennessee (Oct. 24) are on the books. Speaking with sources recently, they are telling me they are watching where Houston and Kentucky are sitting as we head into the start of visits.

That's cute that you think the NCAA is actually going to enforce that. There is a less than zero chance these market value rules are ever even attempted to be enforced

You're always right so you're probably right about this too. We'll see. There are a lot of people who agree with you.

Not sure why you always start off every reply to me with saying I'm always right, but sure. I just don't see any way the NCAA will be able to legally cap the NIL deals, they'll be sued into oblivion
