If you have not already, you all are gonna want to watch the ‘Unrivaled’ 1 On 1 game; Aaliyah Edwards 12-0 over Breanna Stewart! Don’t blink, it’s only like two minutes long. Made real quick work of her!

I also saw Napheesa and Katie Lou… kinda fun!

I thought Lou would lose in a shutout but she fought back. She still lost but made Ohee work for the win.

Too bad the 4 Huskies had to match up against one another

Wasn't a fan of it either. Ironically the pool set up gives Aaliyah a bye due to the other bracket not competing due to injuries. She gets some time to scope her competition and some rest.

Now on the other hand, at least there's an ND vs ND match up in the second round. ;)

That's going to be interesting to see for sure.

I NEVER would have expected AE over Stewie 1 on 1.

Aaliyah has really been working on her game! Her 3 point shot is now much smoother and natural looking. She goes left and right, baby jumper. Wow.

Her defense v Stewie no surprise, but that wide arsenal of offense was something. Go '25 Mystics! Happy for Aaliyah.

Stewie will get over it. More time to run the league this week now. Plus it's all family.

It is a 1on1 tournament, but the winner still shares the winning prize money with her 3on3 teammates. The Mist have not been winning much, so would be a huge boost to all of them if Liyah were to finish it out!

Liya got a bye in the 2nd round. Tonight, she just bulldozed Allisha Gray. I forgot how strong she is.

Liya makes the semifinals against Arike. The other semifinals pits Phee v. Azura. That’s 3 Huskies in the final Four!

Liya has been a revelation in the 1v1 tournament. I would love to see her win it all. I would be fine with Pheesa or Z taking home the prize as well. Have to root against Arike, although she may be the best 1v1 player left in the tournament.

All the bumping and slapping and hard fouls in the W -- Aaliyah didn't need to adjust to that. She'd experienced 4 years of it in college. When the veterans think they'll knock her off her game with that sort of play, well, they have another think coming.

The one thing Aaliyah lacked coming into the league was a good perimeter shooting game. But she seems to have addressed this. She was always a powerfully built 4 with excellent handles.

1). And in her time with Canada Basketball playing FIBA rules internationally. Getting exposed to this level of competition from her highschool days gave her a headstart in comparison to others who are now getting used to it.

2). Her commitment to improving is something I don't think she gets enough credit for. This is where her time with Canada Basketball also served her well because they would have her work on things outside of what she was doing with UConn.

Liya was playing angry. Wow!

This 1-on-1 tournament seems to be the roughest play of them all, by a large margin. The referees have their whistles in their pockets! Playground rules to be enforced! It is fun to watch, but like, 'I hope nobody gets hurt!' type of fun. If the referees do not alter and start calling fouls that they had not previously been calling, I think Aaliyah has to be the favorite.

Watch a couple vids, look at some action photos of the four players that are left; Aaliyah is extremely athletic, big, strong, fast, powerful, ... from a physique standpoint, if they are going to let them play barnyard rules, Liya is built for laying down the schwack! Think about how intimidating Edwards would be if she showed up in her facemask for the next round? 'You didn't bring yours, Arike? Hum, good luck.'

As Milford noted, Edwards was absolutely punishing Allisha Gray like she was angry at her! Perhaps a lot of that is that she is a rookie, and this is for two hundred thousand bucks. In addition to the publicity and respect that goes along with winning this, that would likely double her net worth. Everyone has a favorite, in this one, I am pulling for Aaliyah. Go get it!

Also, stamina has played a heavy role in many of the matchups. It is very much a question of who has more energy in the second 5 minutes and can win it. I think Aaliyah beat Stewie in roughly two minutes and muscled past Alisha is a longer struggle. Arike outlasted a clearly exhausted Satou.

You are right. One of the great mysteries of Edwards' UConn career was she could jump like crazy to block a shot, or to get a rebound, but that same athleticism was not evident in her offensive game. Her 10-15 footer was really a set shot, not a jumper.

This appears to be changing in a hurry. If all of a sudden the athleticism of her defense is there in her offense, she will be an all-star.

Some players just aren't good 1v1 players and that isn't a knock either. Knowing how to leverage the other 9 plyers is where you hear reference to basketball IQ and the like. AE though is a tough player and if she is bumping you are moving. I hope she wins it all.
