When does Dorka have to make her decision as to whether she will return next year? Also, any available bigs out there?

There are much better opportunities in Europe where she can make more money, be back home, and not have as much competition for a position as in the WNBA. agreed, she's not going to the Wnba. Similar to Makurat they are from Europe and much better pay overseas.

This raises an interesting question. What is the average "per game" salary in Europe versus the average "per game" salary in the WNBA? Does the relatively short WNBA season make them look less lucrative?

We'll see how it turns out but I even think this prioritization rule in the WNBA will deserve them. They shot a bullet in their own feet. Perhaps is that the main reason Stewie signed with Seattle for only one year. Would you choose to be paid say 200 when you can be paid 1000 ? Would I be a player, even an american born, I would prioritize playing overseas over the W. This rule is so stupid.

1. How many players get drafted?​

In 2020, the WNBA drafted in 36 new players to the league on draft night. The WNBA is a hard league to break into because each of the 12 teams can only bring on 12 players during the regular season. Teams can only have 15 players in training camp at one time. And, in 2021, some teams are going with the minimum of 11 players, rather than the maximum of 12, to fit multiple max contracts under the $1.3 million salary cap. Players picked in the bottom half of the draft from 18th and beyond are the most likely to be cut after camps this year unfortunately.

Stewie already said the rule is why she signed for 1 year. She also said you might see a lot more players leave the WNBA because you cut off a large part of their income.
Stewie might stay because of her special shoe contract with Puma, but most other players don't have a special deal.
Parker was the last WNBA player to have a special shoe deal.

That might be true for a "pretty good" European player like Anna Makurat or perhaps Dorka, but a player with potentially world-class talent is probably better off establishing her bona fides in the WNBA. From a competitive standpoint, it is still (and by far) the best women's basketball league in the world, so if you are from Europe or Asia and you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. I have read that players (whether American or foreign-born) can negotiate better pay in Europe or Asia if their WNBA credentials are top-notch.

"Pretty good" American players like KLS or Tiffany Hayes are not going to make huge salaries overseas, but they will earn some significant income. Unlike Stewie or Diana, "pretty good" players will find that both the WNBA and foreign salaries are a significant part of their income, and it would hurt financially to part with either source of compensation.

And for American players, NIL and other commercial opportunities require them to keep themselves and their basketball talents in the spotlight on this side of the Atlantic. That may be the biggest reason why they will need to continue playing in the WNBA.

Playing in the WNBA may be a path to permanent US residency and more job opportunities after basketball.

Female (non-BB) salaries in the US are considerably higher than in Europe, almost double European salaries.

Hungarian wages & salaries are also considerably lower than in many other parts of Europe.

I'd love to see Dorka return, but it appears increasingly unlikely. From her perspective, she has attained good enough if not greater exposure, and in Hungry her standing and opportunities have also grown. Also this year the bigs graduating include Liv of course and Cunnane of NC State but don't dominate the conversation. Next year Boston will dominate the oxygen, so from Dorka's perspective this year offers optimal opportunities. So all good wishes for this year and success at UCONN.

Options to play basketball overseas are going to be reduced based on current geopolitical conditions. I might consider staying school for the extra year. Maybe UConn can assist Dorka in finding NIL opportunities.

Don't think that can happen. It may not be fair, but as I understand it foreign players in the US are not eligible for NIL deals. That means Dorka, Nika, and Aaliyah. It is something that should be corrected but hasn't been.

During the interview after the trophy presentation Gino was asked about his seniors and their last conference championship and he clearly stated the three of them. Was that a slip on his part or was that confirmation that he expects Dorka back next year.

Did anyone else catch this? In the interview with Geno after the game he was asked about his seniors and what they have meant to them during the season. Or something similar to that. His replay was: "The THREE of them have"...... Three to me would be C. E. and N-O. Not Dorka? Maybe.

Or he could have been focused on the "last" aspect of the question. This BE conference is also Dorka's first.

Unlike the WNBA and NBA, pro teams elsewhere in general aren't required to make their payroll, contract details and player salaries public, so the answer is 'No one knows for sure'.
One website showed the average salary in the top French pro women's league at 3700 euros/ month. That's better than what women executives there earn but the drop off in lower leagues is pretty drastic, topping out at 1600-1700/month.
Players with WNBA experience get paid more, on a much bigger scale and may only be limited to how much the teams are willing to pay.
