A message from Mora

Pretty clear this decision was to get back to his and his wife's home area while he still had the chance. Probably wouldn't have the same option next year. So he makes a decision based on family considerations and left this program much better than when he found it. Don't understand why there are folks who want to vilify him on this board. But hey, it's the Boneyard.
Because the way he handled leaving was questionable to say the least. If he had made the kinds of typical statements that coaches make when they leave a program, and if he wasn't actively trying to poach us, he probably would catch less heat. But given the way he's handling his departure, it isn't surprising that he's burning the goodwill that he would otherwise have.

All the comments regarding him are true. What really gets me is that we all believed that David Benedict made it crystal clear what the situation was here in Storrs. Jim begged for the job, David explained the situation, and Jim jumped on it. We didn't bring Jim here to get us halfway home and then jump. We believed once he got us halfway, he had to guts and ability to keep it going. I'm sure we all figured 5-10 years.

He bolted while his stock was high. Is he that insecure that he believed this was his high point? There should be no talent drop off after a year like we had. It was his job to keep moving UConn up. Hit the portal and bring in replacements.

Let's face it, with the abysmal strength of schedule we had, objectively UConn is greatly improved but not more than a decent G5. And we will certainly drop a few notches given how he left and where he left us. I don't see any of this mission accomplished stuff. Maybe, maybe if David told him we'd be in a P4 and that didn't pan out, then maybe it makes sense. But Jim's a big boy. He should know far more about all of this CR bs than the rest of us and should have know it was more likely than not that UConn would still be independent. He's the type who always thinks the grass is greener. At least he found his path to a fully funded retirement.

We played 3 P4s and should have won all 3. No telling how good teams are gonna be when you schedule them. JMU played 1 P4 and lost. He did a fine job, but if his heart ain't in it its best he goes anyways.

Others have said something changed and it has to be true. All of a sudden he is picking fights with media calling their questions disrespectful. Bye Jim, Next.

Conference affiliation doesn't matter. bcu and cuse suck this year and duke isn't even receiving votes. agreed though, Next.

He did sign an extension last year

Happens all the time with coaches in basketball and in football, or in any high profile college sport. Bolt when your team hits its peak with a likely talent dropoff the next year and the loss of coaching cred and future job opportunities. Pitino did team switching over the years after his teams peaked. So did Beilein, and way back when, Shabel probably did it and Burr Carlson got the leftovers(5-19 in his second and last year in 1969). Fortunately, Dee Rowe resurrected the program and upgraded the recruiting. And the rest is history.
Pitino and Beilein did it to move up in their profession. They weren't running because they were scared the team wouldn't be good the next season.

Name a coach who has left a football or basketball program that does not poach players or coaches. I am guessing you are drawing a blank.

Your correct most if not all do. However we have a coach who a year ago called out all other programs for poaching UConn players. Thats called hypocrisy.

Name a fan base that wouldn't be pissed about it afterwards. I'm guessing you are drawing a blank as well.

Mora gave his all to UConn over his 4 years here. He resurrected a dying football program and got fans back into the stadium. He was everything we needed in our hour of desperation. We should honor and respect his personal decisions and stop acting like jilted adolescents.
Except for the offseason. He was MIA for 3-4 months out of the year so he could go skiing or tobogganing or sled dog racing, whatever. Off for a quarter of the year, sort of like my high school spanish teacher.

Marc D’Amelio is on spaces right now and said Mora called him this week to take exception to some of his tweets this week and was pissed at him. Marc got the feeling that Mora didn’t want to leave.

Said Mora told him the reason for leaving but it’s for him to share not Marc. But he got the feeling Mora did not want to leave. And Colorado state is not his dream job. Said mora hasn’t come out to say anything but neither has anyone in Connecticut.

D’Amelio suggests UConn didn’t ask him to stay and didn’t counter the offer. Marc said these questions should be asked to UConn and haven’t.

Also suggested mora wanted to coach the bowl game but UConn didn’t ask.

Now spaces listeners fact checking Marc on Colorado states contract not being a huge money difference. D’Amelio said Colorado state would be able to give more for the staff and NIL.

Conference was not a deal breaker for him as he did not go to P4.

Does not think Mora was scared of losing Bell and Joe because if he was afraid of a challenge he never would have come here.

Thinks Mora liked living in Connecticut. He has 3 kids in New York. People don’t have all the facts about Mora’s living situation and thinking he just wanted to go back west.

Me- listening to this spaces, “Rambling Russ” should be in charge. He’s smarter than Marc and runs a better spaces than the 2 men’s basketball only guys.

Mora doesn’t owe anyone an explanation, but a ChatGPT generated goodbye as well as leaving under darkness could’ve been handled better. Masterclass in ruining any good will your fanbase had. I think all of us understand that it’s his decision to leave for whatever reason, but he could’ve handled the departure way better.

Is this implying the the UConn AD wanted Mora to leave? That is absurd.

Spaces is still going on and he’s taking questions. He all but said UConn didn’t counter earlier. Mora told Marc he loves David Benedict.

Marc saying UConn didn’t want to offer more money.

DB rather go search for another coach and have chaos in the off season. Mora was not good enough for UConn anymore. Just threw him out like he was garbage. Poor Mora had to leave in the dead of night. Does anybody believe this story….lol

Marc got the feeling he didn’t want to leave. His theory is Mora was testing the waters for a big job. Colorado State came. He got an offer. Did UConn match the offer? Did they show they were willing to up the commitment to football?

Marc says these questions need to be asked of UConn.

Marc clearly thinks UConn deserves some blame here.

We need to get to the bottom of this. Imagine UConn fans turning on Mora without knowing the whole story. lol

Somewhere in one of these threads it's implied that Mora was testing the waters for more money, hoping UConn would match, but Marenka Radic wouldn't sign off. Maybe this is what D'amelio is referring to?

Match or a highway robbery? Based on what's transpired, he was trying to leverage the hell out of it....

Why Marc is doing this? to what end? Talking about snafu....

What Marc's saying doesn't line up with the CSU paywalled article says, which include Mora's own statements.

So someone (or multiple someones) is lying/talking out of both sides of their mouths.

I highly, highly doubt Dave told Jim to take a hike. No freaking way.

I listened too.

It sounds like Mora botched his exit and he’s upset that he got called out for it.

1. He didn’t want to leave? Nonsense. Of course he did.

2. Pretty sure Dave didn’t want to be engaged in a nationwide search for a new coach while the roster is blown to smithereens.

Riiiight...so him got us to 9-4 last season and then signed a solid but not grand extension to 2028, but then another good season in 2025 made him test the waters for a higher salary, and when that offer wasn't reciprocated on our end, him bailed even though it appears nobody told and wanted him to leave. Him was a victim, am I reading this right?

Seems to me him caused this problem in the first place by being greedy, especially if him loves Benedict the way him said him does. When did our HC-AD relationship turn into something from Days of Our Lives with D'Amelio interjecting as a 3rd party?!?!
