A lot of blue in this graphic

Oops. Had an extra year in there. All fixed.

Interesting that they stopped the chart before the most husky-dominated 5-year period...

2000 - UConn
2001 - ND
2002 - UConn
2003 - UConn
2004 - UConn (M+W)
Ummm, that there is a six year period if my math ain't failing me!

If they want it to stay at five year periods it would have been nice to do the 25 years of this century would make sense.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I know there has to be someone on the board with Photoshop skills who can make that up for us.

(it also amuses me winning seven national championships in the last 20 years includes a period that was considered "a championship drought" for Connecticut.)

Stanford went 30 years between championships and no one spoke of the Cardinal’s drought

The standard the Huskies have set is far higher than Stanford's.
Tara Vaderveer and Stanford won a championship twice before the Huskies won their first and have been a perennial power since the late 1990’s. Tara is the coach with the second most wins for a reason. The Cardinal have been a championship contender for decades, an opponent that used to make UConn fans nervous about the games yet no one thought them, or Tennessee or any other program, essentially washed up because they didn’t win a championship in the last 9 years.

You’re right, that people hold UConn to a higher standard but it’s a double-standard, and I’ve never been fond of those.

UConn has had the best players since Geno started winning NCs and a couple clutch performances and bad luck with injuries are all that separate him from 15. Looking at the other great teams or coaches and you see things like Aja Wilson, Aliyah Boston, Cardoso and Brittany Griner all only have 1 NC. I truly think if they had played for UConn they all would have a bunch.

Geno gets a lot of credit for his coaching as he should but he is really a fantastic recruiter especially finding players for his way of playing. If I was a post player with traditional skills I would stay away from UConn but any other player is crazy if they don't join the Huskies.

I was responding to the comparative championship droughts. But, since you've expanded the conversation to wins and contenders, I'll counter with:

4 of the 5 longest win streaks in WCBB D1, the 2 longest in any division.
15 of 16 final fours recently, 23 times in the last 32 years, 21 of the last 24
vastly more women in the W than any other school
six undefeated seasons
the highest winning percentage of any school for the last 30 years

Those were all very visible -- often celebrated -- accomplishments. Add in the championships and it's no surprise people hold them to a higher bar, expect them to win.

If you go back to 2000, all but four of the Championship head coaches are still coaching, yes, 11 of them are for Geno.

The four no longer coaching: Summitt, Muffett, van Deveer, and Gary Blair all have more than 850 wins, and Summitt and van Deveer are in the top three with Geno. Summitt (8) and Kim Mulkey (4) do add up to Geno's 12.

Now to add to the NC total so that you need to add Summitt, Mulkey and Dawn (3) to get to Geno's NC's...

Go Huskies!!!!

I expanded the chart on Instagram, mainly because I wanted to see if they used the current logo or the one in use during the championship years between 2000 - 2004.

They used the current one.

Seeing that no one else satisfied this request I offer this. Click the photo to see it all. I don't know how to make it all visible on this site :(
