Agreed. It’s 3 to 3 over the past couple seasons, but this year seems to be more even. Huge game tomorrow night.

This will get tested this year. I get a feeling it might now play out that way this year. Early season, Pitino had a lot of random parts he was trying to figure out. The committment to Darling has been a game changer for them, as he's playing Pitino style ball and has been a dawg out there. He has 27+ minutes in three out of their last 4 games. The way he uses Mitchell has been hard to match up with. They feel like a top 10 team right now. Throw them up against Purdue on a neutral court and tell me who wins.

I think we win Wednesday, but it's going to be a close one - we have to work through the bullying and hit shots.
 
AP we are #6, St.John’s #15. They could jump us with a win? Maybe not but they would have an argument for it at this point in the season.
 
Physical edge to Saint John's, mental to UConn Huskies. This is due to our knowing what we have do to win the next game. Do we have the horses, that is the question. If we play to not foul so much to a good foul shooting team the outcome may be in our favor. Twin towers for ten minutes and an occasional zone could make the difference. How the Huskies handle the excellent full court press is another key. Our win against a good Villanova team may restore our belief. Go Huskies!

I’ve been critical of this team and certain players during the conference slate because we haven’t been playing up our ability.

Many national commentators (see the post game comments from Mashburn) see us as underdogs in this game. I think that is crazy. We are a different class level than St. John’s which bore itself out in our 5-1 out of conference record. If that team shows up (saw semblances of that in the Nova win), we will win on Wednesday and will continue to be thought of as national title contenders. It’s in the team’s hands. Go Huskies!

We've lost three in a row, and stylistically Pitino presents a roster/style that give us trouble. Until we show we can figure it out, I kinda get it.

I think we win too, but it's going to be close.

The 2 losses from the 2024-2025 season don’t count as this year’s roster was constructed to address some of the inefficiencies from last year. There is no continuity from last year to this year in my view.

This season’s loss was due to our poor execution offensively and defensively. We have shown we can play better than that and have done so against much better competition. I don’t think they can beat us if we play to our ability.

As your 1st refenced CBS article said UConn was a probable 2-seed, but could move up if Houston lost at KS. Houston did just that, and the Huskies are now a projected 1-seed again. That is great news.

Beat the Johnnies tomorrow, win the following 2 games, and have a deep showing in the BET, they will solidify a 1-seed.

Is this roster that much different? We had Tarris last year. AK & Solo starters. Mullins is in effect, not much different physically to McNeeley. So then it's just Silas.

I can't disagree with that, I'm just saying I'm not sure the makeup of this team has changed drastically.

I'm also not sure how great a QB Silas is. I think he's a very talented PG, but I haven't really seen him assume the QB role with all that much depth yet. He's a great defender, and much better athlete than Newton, but he doesn't quite run the floor like Newton did, yet.

Of course it's that much different. We have 2 new starters (plus Tarris is a starter now) and 4 new rotation players. We didn't have a starting level point guard last season, we have one of the best point guards in the country this season.

Looking at this scenario we are probably going to need more minutes from Jaylen Stewart and minutes for Mullins shared more with Solo.
I cannot see how Mullins can in any way handle Sr. Hopkins 6-7 225. Less minutes for Solo means better minutes running screens and transition; the same for Mullins. This is another game where we are going to need big time help from Jayden and Jaylen. Even if it is not enough this would be a better lineup as we head into the end of the season and upcoming tournaments. Jay and Jay have been to the dances and we need that depth and rebounding. I really can't see an alternative and we saw real positive results against Villanova. Tarris needs to bring his A game.

Mc Neeley was 6-215 and Mullins 6-6 196. McNeeley avg 6.0 rebounds per game and took the ball to the hole. Mullins avg 3.5 rebounds and shot pullups. Mc Neeley would be a much better matchup (bigger/stronger) against Hopkins and probably Mitchell from a defensive point.

I guess my point is, as it comes to matching up with these big/athletic teams like a StJ, I don't see our team makeup being that different 5-2, and bench. We still have many of the same pieces as last year, that major difference being Silas at PG. Yes, it has filled a major hole, but we are kinda the same across the rest of the floor. Silas' issue has been turnovers as well - not what you want against StJ. Let's see what they can do tomorrow.

Not claiming one was a better player than the other, but McNeeley had a good amount more bulk to him than Mullins has. The past few games we've seen opponents isolate a player on Mullins who, due to difference on strength, was able to back him down for an easy layup multiple times.

I'm honestly suprised the coaching staff allows him to keep doing it.

Saw a mock this AM with Mullins at 25 to the Nuggets. Wouldn't be a bad place for him to go, but would he leave for 25?

Mullins is unique player - I can't say I can think of a comp for him either in UConn lore or NBA. I think we've talked about a taller Reed Sheppard, but not even sure that applies. From a style perspective, not sure what he is exactly.

I have seen him going in the top 15 as well. He is all over the map. The next few weeks may clear some of that up.

The bench depth is a massive improvement year over year. When those are guys are engaged, we are a much different team.

Agree - there are a lot of very good players in that 10-30 range.

He's going all over the place between early and late first round. I don't sense he's what you would call a shoe-in prospect like some of these others that have had massive games and flash a lot of on ball stuff.
