Projected somewhere between 7-9, for the ncaa tourney, also depends on st.johns and BET,
But I think we are better off playing tough teams early on.
This team has played it's best, by far, in the toughest spots: facing depaul defeat, on the road in Milwaukee, on the road in Omaha, last night 2nd half down 14 season in the balance. Etc.

Alex himself said, paraphrasing, that this team doesn't get up for some games.
If we get a Maryland again, or a Louisville first round I'd feel better than if we drew Miami-ohio or Drake.

I would also love to play #1seed in rd 2 or 3. Last years team, seeded #1 overall, got off on running every possession to a T, no matter the opponent. They played against themselves. This years team needs a grudge

There is no statistical reason for this. I also know that we won't be a top 5 seed anyway, unless we win the big east and run the table. But give me an 8 seed and watch out

I was actually thinking the same.

We play down to crappy teams. And I strongly agree with Alex. It’s almost like the adrenaline isn’t there unless it’s a big game.

Could not agree more, and I said it here before Seton Hall. Get a one-seed matchup in round two, beat the crap out of them and take over their lane the rest of the way.

The best seed for any team in UConn's predicament (i.e., they won't be a top-5 seed) is 6th in the worst 1st seed's bracket. Then they get to play 11th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st seeds in that order.

To be a 6th seed, UConn needs to be around 21-24 in the committee's eyes. If UConn goes on a run from now on, they can achieve that.

I would call the Seton Hall game a fairly tough spot not once but twice in the same game and the team completely collapsed. Not sure they played their best in New Jersey or Hawaii.
It doesn't matter who they play if they get to the dance because they, like everyone else, face a one and done scenario,
The one thing that UConn does have going for it is the fact that many on the team have been to one NC run and some have been to two. That experience is golden.

I agree with this - at some point, if we want a 3-peat, we'll have to beat great teams. You might as well start early. We play up to the level of our competition. We've done great in our non-con (ex Maui). Non-bias refs will make a big difference, too. I say bring it on.

Also, for whatever reason, UConn, above all other BE teams, benefits from the tourney's absence of the way -too -heavy BE whistle. It's like being a 16 year old in a package store that doesn't card.

The problem with that logic is that if they play in the 8/9 game getting past that game is a 50/50 proposition. That 8 or 9 seed will be a better team than Seton Hall or Villanova.

I've always considered a "higher seed" as a better seed.. you know? like a 2 or a 3 seed. While a "lower" seed is a worse seed... 5, 6, 7.... So I am wondering about the title of your post. Of course a higher seed is what we want. I'd gladly sign up for a better (higher) seed. At least that's the way it's refererd to on TV when they talk about "higher seeds" (the top teams).

I get you. I meant higher number, worse seed. I'm a Tampa Bay Rays fan and they ONLY do well when they're not predicted to finish top 3 in their division.

Being a worse seed is not a good thing. Statistics bear that out. Whether it’s the committee getting things right or teams playing to their seed the better seed usually wins. That said, one caveat is that I’d like to avoid the 8-9 game. I’d rather be a 10 seed than a 9 seed. Playing 8/7 is a marginal difference. Playing a 1 vs a flawed 2 is a big difference.

There are many problems with it, but this board specializes in being dumb . We didn’t even play well at Marquette or Creighton, we won because of things that are total outliers, but in boneyard world we won so that means we played well.

I think Duke is a problem with the way they can defend with their size at every position, and I wouldn't exactly be confident, but I do think we would have a chance on a given day. Auburn is almost older than the OKC Thunder, whereas Duke relies on freshmen. I think I'd rather see them than Auburn or Houston - which are veteran teams that have been through some wars and are hungry. Although you never know until they throw the ball.

The thing is, it seems like it's a 50/50 proposition no matter who or where we play. We beat Creighton away, we lose to Xavier at home. We beat Marquette away, we lose to SJU at home. We lose to Nova and SH away, but win at Texas and Gonzaga at MSG.

So normally I'd agree, but this season has no rhyme or reason it seems other than we play to the level (or at least reputation) of the opponent. So I agree, I would rather play better seeds (or more importantly brand name teams) in the tournament, ones that instill respect based on who they are. Otherwise I see this team shatting the bed against an over achieving mid-major.

I don't mind seeing Duke. They are soft. I don't want to see Houston as their physicality will kill us.

Hmmm. Duke is enormous, Houston is tiny.
Yeah but it is more about Physicality that we have issus with. Think St. John's but on steroids. Duke i'm not worried about even if they have Copper Flagg. They are still soft and more of a Finesse team from what I have seen.
