Each C7 school will make more money for basketball than UConn will for all sports.

It's hardly a windfall. Equivalent of offering me 2 dollars with strings attached vs. just 1 with a little more freedom and hope for a bigger payday. Keep your dollar, balloon knot.

They will make slightly more but that will be offset by the various fees UConn will receive. To say nothing of all the other issues we'll have to deal with. Nelson, the thing you don't seem to get is that UConn has a very different athletic and academic profile from the Catholic 7. They are private, relatively modest schools for the most part. Sure they have good basketball and occasionally they have another good program--baseball at Seton Hall, soccer at St Johns. But on the whole they have limited athletic programs and limited interest in being "major" powers in any. The one exception is Georgetown, which by most reports isn't that thrilled with where it ended up and that's why you will occasionally hear Georgetown to the ACC as a basketball only to balance Notre Dame.

That is a short term scenaio. How long will the network continue to pay up for those powerhouse battles between PC and Seton Hall? Let's be honest, aside from Georgetown, Marquette and Villanova, the C7 has sucked in recent years. Their survival is completely contingent upon Butler, Xavier, and Creighton maintaining and improving their programs and fitting into the league well. The C7 as a stand alone is worthless.

You have literally resorted to arguing that 2 is greater than 5.

.-.
The lack of vision and confidence in the UConn brand seen in posts like these are just numbing to me as a diehard Husky fan. Why in the world would UConn want to take a step backwards from the current sh1tstorm that they are already in? Going Independent in football??? Groveling at the feet of Providence, Seton Hall and DePaul??? C'mon man. Just stop.
