Calhoun's sister Sierra is one of the top prospects in the Class of 2014 and word is that Auriemma will be making his way down to NY to check out Calhoun on Sunday.

This is an interesting development.

The Calhouns were in the house last night for the men's exhibition game. That's Jim Calhoun....Sierra and her Mom and Dad and her brother
who is a frosh on the men's team....he went for 24 points....pretty nice debut! Sierra's name has often crossed this board...I hope after the upcoming visit that Geno
and Sierra have strong mutual interest. My impression is that she will be a small forward on the elite college level.

Feeling real good about Sierra becoming a Huskie. Just a matter of time. It might be as simple as Geno finally offering.

I agree. I think it's been the family's preference for both their kids to end up at the same school.

Sierra is a fine player. I am also a big fan of the notion that we keep locking down CTK and New York in general. Geno's national recruiting scope has been ambitious, visionary, and extraordinary, but having a regional base is a big deal. And when one high school produces three kids (Holdsclaw, Bird, and Charles) who would be on the respective all-time starting fives for the sport's two most successful programs, that's a well you want to make sure you keep dipping into.

Courtney and Sierra would make a terrific starting tandem to the 2014 class, with possibly even more great news to follow.

+1

Couldn't agree more.

On another recruiting note I saw an online article from a local newspaper in SC (I think) regarding A'Ja Wilson. In it, her coach was quoted as saying that UCONN has indeed offered her.

The article was not newly minted but I don't recall the date. When I find it again, I will post a link.

Thar' she blows !!

Since the 2013 recruiting class for UCONN is very small, one or two players, I look for a large recruiting class of five maybe even six for 2014. The 2014 class seems much stronger then the 2013 class.

I'd like to see 7 across the 2 classes, ideally 2 in 2013 and then 5 in 2014. A total of 6 may be enough, but we know the problems associated with lack of depth. I'd rather err on the high side.

2014 looks pretty stacked but I say no more commits from that class until after McCall choses. She is a post player and that may defer some other kids.

I really hope McCall calls UCONN home. I hate to see another 1 player class.

As far as Calhoun goes, no idea with her. I think if she gets an offer, she accepts. Just my opinion.

we will see I suppose.

For something sad, read the October 3rd entry. Ya gotta feel for the kid.
I understand how it could be perceived as sad but all I see is good in that sentence. First of all, the kid believes enough in herself to even try out for basketball, much less a Div I scholarship. She must have done the entire AAU route. That's great confidence - good for her. Secondly, the young lady got a free ride to college. It seems like there are a LOT of kids that are that lucky, but it's really only a small fraction of teens going to college that get an all-expense paid education. Again - good for her. Finally, the brief article said she "chose" Ole Miss. It implies that she had more than one offer and I hope that's the case. If so - good for her once again.

I see only a happy ending.

... I see only a happy ending.
Let's hope it turns out well, but sheesh ... she gets to campus and the first thing she gets is a major league letdown from her head coach, the very guy who got her to believe in herself. What a betrayal of the team the coach has on his conscience.

I'm not seeing what you are. Is this the item you're referring to?

October 3

Baylee Rexing of North Gwinnett High School in Georgia has verbally committed to Ole Miss. The 5-2 guard told us she picked Ole Miss because head coach Adrian Wiggins because, "He saw something different in me and knows how hard I will work. He says my size doesn't matter and he really believes in me."

Yes, Nan - Wiggins is the coach who's either on suspension with Ole Miss or been fired - I don't know the latest developments there. Other assistant wbb coaches there have been fired.

The kid's barely made her decision and - WHAM! - her head coach, the one who believed in her, apparently has got some problem following the rules.

Maybe you forgot who Wiggins was?

The only upside is that since Baylee is class of 2014 she has a full year to sort things out after all the tumult subsides.

On the subject of UConn's recruiting, Rich's blog included a mention of Calhoun and Geno's visit today but also this nugget on A'ja Wilson:

The source also indicated that Auriemma is extremely high on A’ja Wilson, a 6-3 forward from Hopkins, S.C. and another 2014 target. It is believed that Wilson is talented enough to play two-guard at the collegiate level.

Wilson's size and skills remind me of Candace Parker and Breanna Stewart. Add her and Brianna Turner, and we'll have the most athletic team ever, at any level.

The info on Wilson is very promising! She is indeed special and has jumped to #1 ranked! We are on #2/3 Turner, #4 Caldwell*,#5 Canada,#8 Ekmark****,#9/#15 Calhoun** OFFERED BEING VISITED TODAY,#9/#11 Drummer and possibly others!

* equals visited ** Visited multiple times and confirmed offer! **** verbaled! Wilson has an offer,I suspect Turner and Caldwell have offers Calhoun has an offer and.............................;)

Reason to believe there may be a commit in the near future. Turner will be visiting again.
Reason to believe there is going to be other positive news in the near future!

#1 who committed in recent years Tina,Maya,EDD*, KLM,Stewie, time for another #1? We have been in play for other #1s during this time and currently involved with present and former/and still #1by some experts
Ira

If we somehow got Wilson and Turner,
Uconn will go on a run that makes 2000-2004 look pedestrian. Basically, it will be a run from 2008-2018 that simply shouldn't be possible.
