Bottom 6th, with 2 out and a runner at 2B, Coe comes out of the game. Jack Sullivan comes in to pitch. Coe threw 27 pitches, so he will be available later in the series.

Sullivan walks the first batter he faces, then gives up an RBI single, 7-3 Creighton. An infield single loads the bases. A groundout ends the inning with no more runs coming in.

I have no problem with Sullivan coming in to pitch in this situation. Saves the bigger bullpen arms for the rest of the series or when this game might be closer, plus UConn the coaching staff knows it needs to give some other pitchers a chance to get the job done and hopefully turn into another pitcher they can depend on.

Sheesh

Top 7th, Padilla with a leadoff single. Daniels pinch hits for Hyde, but flies out for the first out. No doubt Garbowski will come in as the replacement catcher.

Padilla gets picked off for the 2nd out. UConn offense with the minimum 3 batters that inning. 7-3 Creighton.

Bottom 7th, after getting 2 strikeouts, Sullivan gives up a 2 out double. Sullivan strands the runner at 2B. 7-3 Creighton.

Top 8th, with 1 out, UConn offense gets 2 runners on scoring position, but they are stranded. 7-3 Creighton.

Bottom 8th, Braden Quinn comes in to pitch.

Bottom 8th, Quinn gets the first 2 outs. Quinn comes out the game, Nowak comes in to pitch.

Nowak gets a strikeout to end the inning. 7-3 Creighton.

Why take Quinn out? He's throwing good, let him build up some confidence. I don't get it.

The ump sucks. Another one where the pitch to Studley was a foot off plate called strike. Inning killer.
Giving up 5 runs and all the momentum as the Friday starter is what got us into this bind in the first place. Something we can potentially control unlike umpires.

Top 9th, Morton draws a leadoff walk. Garbowski with a 1 out double to put 2 runners in scoring position. Tammaro pinch hits for Simmons, he gets a 1 out RBI double, 2 runners in scoring position. 7-4 Creighton.

Chris Jones says Tammaro has announced he is coming back to UConn next season.

Smith brings in 2 runs with a 1 out RBI single, 7-6 Creighton. Smith steals 2B.

Top 9th, no more runs for UConn come in, Creighton wins 7-6.

At least it was a nice late comeback attempt for the Huskies.

First time UConn has lost 2 games in a row this season. That is not bad for the sport of baseball.

Shoot I thought we had it.

Tough loss. Not pleased with another early deficit, but very impressed with the production quality of the FS1 telecast. It was nice to see our boys on the big screen.

Because we need more than just Quinn to build up confidence. We need as many surprise arms as we can get. Quinn got some confidence from this and now hopefully same for Nowak.
And Nowak has looked better. Maybe a positive sign. With this loss all thoughts of hosting should be behind them now. Now hopefully they can relax and play some solid baseball these last 2 games and get back into the groove heading into the BE tourney.

If we go on a losing streak we will likely miss the NCAAs, at large wise. Just the math. So I hope we can start to put it together.

1) Main positive tonight is they woke up in the 9th inning and can try and build on it. Not playing good baseball, however, in all 3 phases.
2) First inning - sounds nitty but Huber swinging 3-0 at ball 4 was sneaky big. Would have had 1st/2nd against a pitcher who wants to move it in and out you want guys on base. Shrinks his margin of error. That set the tone for the game.
3) Outing was a microcosm of Sears' year - Should have been out of the first inning scoreless, paid dearly for his mistakes, retired 7 in a row and then couldn't escape trouble. Teams max out on run production against him.
4) They didn't catch a break tonight but when you're not playing well you don't catch them. Make your own breaks.
5) Second time I've seen Creighton this year (other time Nebraska). Good pitching will shut that lineup down. Nobody scares you. The 2 guys who can remotely hurt you hurt them. If they can get ANY type of quality pitching Fri/Sat they should be ok. But a big if.
6) ABs were decent early, became very undisciplined mid-game, and got better later. Mid-game started chasing.
7) Pitching - every inning (almost literally) has stress with opponents having runners in scoring position. Never an easy inning. Tough way to live. And tonight was against an offense that has struggled mightily.
8) Tammaro had a positive impact again and he's hitting .400.
9) Padilla getting picked off first down 7-3 in the 7th? inning. Bizarre and typifies how they've been playing.
10) Overall disappointing day given the extra days off with URI cancellation. Came alive in the 9th but tough constantly digging out of big holes. Always playing uphill.
