I don't think foreigners are eligible given this wording on the Naismith's website: "Also in 1987, to honor the nation’s best boy’s and girl’s high school basketball players, the Naismith Trophy Boy’s High School Player of the Year and the Naismith Trophy Girl’s High School Player of the Year were established" (my emphasis)

I only mentioned Angela Salvadores going to Duke as she's a Significant Recruit for them and if she played in the US would be on the list. I realized she wasn't eligible. :)

What's said is the Top Players are going to few select teams.

Gotcha, it's hard to tell on the Internet and I had to look to make sure it was US only.

As an aside, Ms Salvadores (#8) is playing pro ball........ averages around 15 pts per game. And she did win the FIBA Young Player of the Year award. I look forward to seeing her play in Durham.

It's pretty much the "who's who" list of the top 15-20 kids from the 2015 class. Congrats to all the nominees. My money's on KLS to win the award...

Triad & Everyone,
genuine curiosity here. How does this work -Ms. Salvadores playing proball and retaining NCAA eligibility? I posted the following in reference to another European player and did not get any responses.
__________
One of Chiney’s teammates on that Italian team is Cecilia Zandalasini http://basketball.eurobasket.com/team/Italy/Famila_Wuber_Schio/7616?Women=1&Page=1
With Chiney going down Cecilia will be getting more minutes and experience.
Which leads me to a few questions:
  1. How can Cecilia maintain her NCAA eligibility and play with professionals as stated in this article?

  2. Is this same opportunity (ability to play with professionals in one or Europe’s top pro leagues & maintain NCAA eligibility) available to American HS or college students? Specifically, I am thinking of Courtney Ekmark (HS Senior year where she sat out) and Diamond Deshields (this year her transfer year waiting to play for the evil empire).

To maintain their NCAA eligibility Salvadores and Zandalasini are (supposedly) not taking money from the pro "club" teams.

Thanks j66kicker,
I was able to find some clarification in this article Enes Kanter. “The NCAA bylaws consider a player who receives money above ‘necessary expenses’ a professional.” So that fits right in with your explanation of Salvadores and Zandalasini “supposedly” not accepting money to maintain NCAA eligibility.
The process then seems to be clear: The university must certify to NCAA that any money collected by the player while playing for a professional team is below or at the level of “necessary expenses”- which for the NCAA could be like treated the same way the supreme court treats pornography- they’ll know it when they see it.
There is some risk for the university in recruiting these “semi- professional” players which maybe what one of the other poster was referring to in a different thread reference Salvadores’ eligibility at Duke.

Can American players do this? I don’t see any reason why they couldn’t but many reason why they shouldn’t.

Wait a minute, wait a minute, hold the phone; how can it be that the SCar "wave of the future" has zero recruits? There has gotta be something fishy about that list.

SCar did sign the #5 international prospect (per prospectsnation) G Shay Colley from Brampton, Ontario, Canada

Per a couple of SC posters, they are already loaded so they don't need anymore recruits. Luckily, Geno doesn't feel that way :)
