Looks like we got some really talented kids. Sure I'd love to land a 5 star every other year or so and then a bunch of 4 stars to go along with them, and it would not surprise me to see Ollie start pulling in kids like that on a consistent basis. Selfishly I hope we avoid the 1 and dones unless they are a key component in a NC run.

But that's just me. I mean we won the NC last year without Drummond, and our starting back court was a 4th year senior and 3rd year junior. Don't get me wrong - loved landing Drummond, but I'd rather the 1/done be the exception rather than the rule...

If we can recruit guards who become all-time great players and win us a title, than that would be great. However, relying on that seems like a tough formula to keep up.

If we want to consistently be a top 2-3 seed in the tourney and have a good chance of winning it, than we need to bring in as much talent as possible. that will include a lot of 1 and dones and 2 and dones due to how NBA teams draft. It ironically is the most consistent way to make sure a program is one of the top teams in the country each year.

So while I like a mix, I think it should be closer to two 5 stars and two 4 stars each year assuming Ollie can bring in a couple of top 25 players each year.

I figured Prince would be higher after his first EYBL session and Future150 has had him at #46 also.

Links to that site don't work unless you cut and paste and take out the space like tcf15's instructions. Tom disabled links to that site. Long story.

Perhaps, but we've won 1 NC approx every 4-5 years since we got the first one. Seems what JC and Ollie have done has worked better than any other coach out there. Of course more talent is better, but I'll take what we've done any day over Kansas, Duke or UNC...

It would be fantastic to keep the formula of guard centric teams with veteran leadership, but I think it's more of sure bet to go with a few more 5 star players than we have previously gotten.

Far enough. Can't really argue that more talent ISN'T better... I guess I just want to see us win more NC's, and then we can work backwards and see what strategies worked best!

Id love that class. Add Newman and id be walking on air! Turtle and Prince are great great pic ups as i didnt realize theyre ranked that high. Adams is an absolute steal if we get him. hes 3 year type player imho who could be a star by then. Would love to get Govan. I think we have a great shot if it comes down to us and Gtown. 15 class is looking like it could be a special one if things go our way.

Coach K has been watching Govan recently and Duke is starting to show interest. Does this complicate the situation for us or have we been on him long enough to hold off anyone new? Im guessing that it is us or the hoyas but most of these kids seem to love K even though he does the least with the most talent. It has to say something to a recruit when a team like Duke that recently recruited so well do so little with all the 5 star talent they bring in. I probably dislike coach Calipari less than I do Coach K but at least does a little something with the talent he brings in.

IIRC we were the first big program to offer, and have been in the lead on him for a while. He's also close. 3 says we are in a very good place with him. Only thing is now that KO just won a championship in his first tournament, he's getting some attention from some other highly rated bigs like Stone and Diallo, who have become potential gets now. I don't think Govan has made a Chuckwu-esque comment regarding our current bigs here or to whom we've been paying attention.

Seems to me the formula has always been to sign the best players you can then figure out to what to do with them once you get them in. I mean have we ever ignored a 5-star that has shown interest just because they didn't fit a formula?

the debate wasn't about what UConn has done in the past, but was about what it should do in the future. Some think the best option is to get recruits just like we have been, which is mostly 3 and 4 star players with an occasional 5 star player. I was saying that for that to continue to work there must be an assumption that every 3-5 years a player will develop into an all-time great college player as a junior or senior and lead us to a championship. it could happen, but statistically getting a few less 3 and 4 star players and a few more 5 star players is better even if a lot of the 5 stars leave after 1 or 2 years.

Along with our NC's it will be interesting to hear what recruits say once they see our new practice facility. We were at a real disadvantage to other top schools prior to this year when it came to practice facilities. I believe it will play a huge part in closing the deal with many of these recruits.

Yeah I said the same thing when I saw Kaleb Tarczewski of Arizona at St. Mark's in high school. Couldn't understand how he was so highly rated. I guess I'm just a terrible talent evaluator! I do think it's tougher to judge big men in high school. They don't have the ball much so it's harder to notice them. I do remember that Tarczewski moved really well for a 7 footer and you could tell he was athletic for someone that big. But his hands were terrible and he missed a million bunnies and had trouble holding on to the ball on rebounds. I guess with big men you start with height and athleticism and figure you can work from there.
