2026 UConn Football Commit - Melvin Hills (New Iberia, Louisiana)

John Thomas was one of the best rebounders UConn has had. Saw him play his senior year at the Fieldhouse. He had an Adama type body and great instincts. Donnie Thompson was a really good LB and was on staff during Larry Naviaux's last season. Not sure where he went after that. At the time having players in multiple sports from Bogalusa LA was quite unique.
Absolutely loved John Thomas a beast on the boards!! Underrated Husky

You folks just can’t help yourselves…

… and people wonder why new player commit threads get locked.
Almost like there are alot of us older folks on the thread who's minds wander off to "the good old days". Still wondering how or why we ended up with 3 guys from Bogalusa, LA. Sorry, not sorry Medic

I think there was a connection with Bogalusa because of the Dropo brothers. Walt Dropo was a major league baseball player for the Red Sox and other teams, his brothers also were UConn athletes. I believe they had a fireworks business down in Louisiana and connected the athletes to Storrs. I think Greg Andrews, a wide receiver who played with Rick Robustelli and Vinnie Clements was the first athlete we had from Bogalusa.
