2026 Transfer portal

Geno has always harped on his players. So why cannot Vic? Geno compliments his players in the media. Then follows up with a sarcastic negative remarks.
It may not seem like it this week, but Geno is a master communicator. 🤔 His players know exactly where they stand, along with family and advisors. Geno has also largely mellowed and adjusted to interacting with today's youth.

TX departures are definitely shocking, as kids are giving up a pretty sure shot at final four, plus academic/alumni bond to Texas program.

The simple reasons are 1- playing time, 2- compensation.

It could also be that Coach Schaefer remains old school, as a coach, and is just tough to play for. In the old days a coach could hold scholarship, program, sitting out a year to transfer etc over the players head. You could be tough, since you knew players had limited options.

Now if a player is the least bit unhappy,
they can not only easily transfer, but also get paid some serious cash. Even if they are happy, that cash can still be a lure.

TX will still put a quality 5 on the floor, but with little depth. Crump often looked like their future and could really shoot. Carlton and Lee were most likely starters and only sophs.

I would love to see Lee at UConn! I think she is exactly what we are missing. Fingers crossed!

Lee will command big NIL bucks, which I'm not sure UConn has available. But she would be a definite contributor at UConn, maybe even a starter if Geno is flexible.

I also like Crump from Texas. I've learned a rule for myself from watching a lot of high school recruits over the years. A significantly above average player can make WOW! plays, but they can also do nothing in individual games. Below average players cannot make me go WOW! no matter how well they otherwise play in a game.

I've seen Crump do nothing in games but I've also been WOWed by some of her plays. Therefore, I think she has above average potential. She may cost less than Lee and has one more year of eligibility.

.-.
How does Poole have any eligibility left? 2 years each at Ohio State, LSU, and Houston.
She's a 2020 which gave her the COVID year. She only played one season at LSU as she was dismissed the following season and sat out. Suffered a leg injury at Houston, so she has a redshirt to use.

.-.
What exactly does this mean? "Vic . . . thinks he's entitled to special treatment by . . . his team"

Vic should have reeled in Booker against UCLA. Why allow her to take 23 shot attempts and have 0 assists while witnessing all her misses?

Might it be some combo reason why Texas players are transferring? NIL, Vic, plus maybe the players no longer want to play with Booker - especially with Rori headed to the WNBA?

Maybe you weren’t paying attention when he went off on a rant about his SEC schedule having to play SC and LSU in back to back games and intimidated the conference was out to get him.Thats my initial complaint, then his calling out his team and hypocritical stance on his “All everything point guard” who he benched in the 4th Quarter vs LSU…but yeah, he’s a great coach…NOT.
For @bballnut90, go look at their analytics and their half court offense, they have Booker and that’s it against good teams. His teams offensive efficiency was well behind UConn, LSU, UCLA and SC and slightly behind Oklahoma, from the Sweet 16 teams. So yeah beating up on weak sisters helps your averages but assists, steals and turnovers still indicate how efficient you are. His teams are not balanced.

He’s a good coach but still a whiner to me and his lack of a good offense has let him down 2 years in a row. Losing Justice, Lee and Crump further hurts his offense.

Texas scored 76+ against all of the top teams you mentioned and played the #2 toughest schedule in the country. The stats aren't getting padded against trash teams. Their lowest point total on the season was 64 points prior to the Final Four.

And aside from the Final Four disaster it was never solely the Booker show against good teams. In 13 of their 14 games against Sweet 16 opponents, someone else besides Madison scored 14+ for them. And in 7 of the 14 games someone other than Booker led the team in scoring. Based on your comments I'm guessing you didn't watch Texas at all this year aside from the Final Four. Texas was a very good offensive team this season.

And it's rich that a UCONN fan is calling another coach a whiner after the antics Geno pulled last weekend.

Cooper and Ole Miss feel like a perfect match. I’m not sure which I am insulting more, but I’m definitely not complimenting either.

I've felt all season that Texas and UCLA played more top ranked teams than anyone else. I also told my spouse prior to the Texas/UCLA Final Four game that "It's a pity they're playing each other now as this is the REAL championship game." I think how close that game ended up bore that out. The only complaint I had with Vic in that game was not calling a time out when Booker had the ball near the end. Any and Every coach would have called a timeout there and set up a play or two. Letting Booker dribble from one end of the court to the other and then try to make a layup with Betts defending her was poor judgment by Booker to say the least but players get caught up in the moment and that's why coaches exist - to coach moments like that. Epic Fail.

I totally get this, but their American counterparts seem to be very quick learners. 😁

one of the situations that made me look upon players very differently was what happened at Oregon State a couple of years ago when the PAC12 blew up. that team made an incredible run in the tournament and I heard the phrase spoken frequently by the players at that time "We're a very close team. We all have each other's back and look after each other on and off the court" - or something similar to that. Same thing applies when there's a coaching change. Those "close knit" teams scatter to the four winds. All those "close friendships" didn't amount to much when time came to move on to another school. None of them stayed together. After that I stopped believing in such statements by players - and I think coaches know that. The portal has just made all of that easier for players but worse for fans. I have a loyalty to my former school and to the team(s) in general but not to individual players or coaches any longer. I can still enjoy WBB for the competition itself but I'm not so emotionally attached to the outcomes as before.

Yes!
I began losing interest in pro basketball when free agency really kicked in to high gear. I blinked and the players I had been following were suddenly on the other team. Football luckily is a 53 man roster so when 12-15 guys leave each year you still have about 75% of the same team when the next season starts.

And I am lucky that Geno is still here at Uconn and we have not yet had a mass exodus from the team. I have no idea how I would feel if 'my team' was losing 5+ players to the portal.

I hear where you're coming from but I don't think the players going their separate ways meant that they didn't truly care about each other after all. Given the implosion of the PAC-12, maybe the players got together and decided that it was in their best interest to make decisions that were in their individual best interests. Maybe they saw that as "having each other's back."

Ok Skim has what looks like a dog mascot popping their head out from behind a tree. Not sure what kind of a dog, or if any school has a mascot that looks just like that, but some announcement is apparently coming related to a team with a dog as the mascot. Curious!

That looks like NC State's mascot.

Here it is from twitter. And while I'm here, a friendly reminder that reposts from twitter and other "open" SM sites are ok, however please don't post anything from The Burner (Basket Under Review), as that's a paywall thingy.
