Obviously, losing Lee would be a pretty big blow. She is from California; is an excellent student; and plans to go to medical school. I should think Cori Close would be calling. I was beginning to look forward to seeing Preston at the point. She is a load of fun. But she may remain a bit too unreliable for Schaefer. Incoming Lizzy Spaight looks like a really good fit. And random rumors of portal pgs coming to Texas appear more credible if Preston announces her departure.Seems like Jordan Lee and Bryanna Preston from Texas will be entering the portal.
I don't know about you, but I was lukewarm regarding Makeer after seeing her in the same tournament, I believe, last year, and now am really impressed with her improvement (which is what we hope for with all high school prospects).
Let's also remember that UCONN has offered/pursued uber-athletic players, but has just not necessarily gotten them (eg Okeke).Basingstoke, I've had a similar evolution in opinion about Makeer. However, to me, she is the kind fast, quick, jumping jack, explosive, and uber-athletic player that Somfai is definitely not. Makeer is exactly the kind of player whom I was advocating for UConn. Somfai may improve her learned skills, but she can't transform into the kind of genetic talent that Makeer has.
Of course, if my idealized female Connie Hawkins isn't available in the portal, Somfai may be a reasonable get for UConn. If that happens, I'll likely take your advice to find some Stanford video of her.
When I was pondering recently about who might be a good pickup for UConn, Somfai was a name that came to mind. I had no reason to believe she would be leaving Stanford at all, I just wondered whether the situation there was conducive to staying. I also had this thought/feeling/fantasy that Somfai was a good rebounder--I have no idea whether that is true. At any rate, I think I would welcome her with open arms.Uh, there is a spot waiting for her in Storrs....
It's EXTREMELY early in the portal but the leaders in the P4 so far are:
10 - Pitt (coaching change)
9 - Penn State (coaching change)
9 - Okla. State
9 - Iowa State (possibly 10)
8 - Miami (really 7 as Peterson left the team after 5 games)
7 - Tennessee (there's only 2 players left from last year's roster)
7 - Arizona
6 - UCF (coaching change)
6 - Indiana
6 - Purdue
5 - Wake Forest, Cincinnati, Houston, Alabama (coaching change), Arkansas, Georgia ( probably 8/coaching change), Miss. State
4 - Utah(possibly 5), Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Stanford(possibly 5), Louisville, Boston College (coaching change), Oregon
* As of 4 A.M. Day #1 the following schools have NO players in the portal :
UCLA, SC, Vandy,Michigan, Ohio St, Duke, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, Kansas, and GT. Possibly Texas A&M. (UConn)
Texas, TCU, and Colorado have potentially 2 each going in.
Do you mean Skylar Forbes?Taylor Forbes from Marquette plans to enter
Do you mean Skylar Forbes?
It looks the Big East is losing top players again. Save for UConn of course.
Somfai averaged nearly a double double as a freshman. She's an excellent rebounder.I also had this thought/feeling/fantasy that Somfai was a good rebounder--I have no idea whether that is true.
Or maybe she's seeing what her options are outside of UVA, and awaiting to see whom they hire? Lots and lots of moving parts this week.I guess her liking that post didn't mean much
And from what I remember, she seemed to have a positive visit to UCONN.Somebody correct me if I’m wrong. Wasn’t Somfai’s final 3 Stanford, Duke & UConn?
Interesting as she was a highly regarded incoming freshman from the team's perspective. Her mother also serves as her agent, so the "Do Not Contact" tag doesn't surprise me. She's been working on behalf of several players in the portal based on some of the posts I've seen.
I see Somfai as a taller version of Gianna Kneepkens, and with the potential to be a shooting version of Kayleigh Heckel.Somfai.
I never saw Stanford this season, so I have no opinion about Somfai as a college player. Stanford lists her as 6-3.
However, I saw her play at IMG high school in person twice, on TV in the Chiptole national championship game, which IMG won, and in the McD AA game. Somfai didn't even start in any of the three IMG games I saw. Kelis Fisher was the high scorer for her team in one IMG game and also in the Chipotle NC game. Somfai scored 4 points in the McD game. Fisher only got garbage time at UConn this season.
Overall, Somfai did not make an impression on me as a formidable "big" or as a wing-forward player with speed or athletic basketball moves. However, I have little doubt she has more basketball skills than Jana El Alfy, though not nearly the size. Olivia Vukosa, whom I've seen a lot, seems a bit taller than Somfai with significantly more basketball skills.
I expect UConn will have some roster space available for the portal. If they use it, I'd rather see Geno go for a more athletic forward/center than Somfai, assuming anyone like that is available. A more reliable outside shooter and drive finisher than Arnold and Shade, who is also quicker than Ziebell, would also be a valuable addition to UConn next season. Who knows, maybe Popovich will be that kind of guard.
Yes. Replacing her starting backcourt is job #1 for Dawn right now.I wouldn’t be surprised if Staley comes knocking
Big name
I was thinking Ole MissThis has LSU all over it 😂
She wasn't a culture fit at Duke, so if Geno wants her, I think she will end up there. And from what I remember, she seemed to have a positive visit to UCONN.
Or TCU...I was thinking Ole Miss
Them too! 😂I was thinking Ole Miss
