2026 Transfer portal

From an athletic standpoint, maybe. But…universities are supposed to be academic institutions first and foremost. Elite academic institutions have transfer credit restrictions to ensure the quality of their graduates. That is, they guarantee the majority of the student’s credits came from that institution. Otherwise, there’d be lots of students transferring huge amounts of credits to an elite institution just to get the elite “name.”

Frankly, I admire the policy as it does reinforce the concept of STUDENT-athlete. Of course, I am a retired professor, so I’m biased toward academics (although also understanding the benefits of successful athletics). Ideally, they’d work together to enhance the reputation of the university.
Exactly. I’m an about-to-retire prof and completely share the sentiment. Of course, there are two spirits within me, one that loves the academic life, and another that loves watching great sports. As Emerson said, consistency blah blah blah…

No worries, they've got the money to find some new players......

Do they? I've brought this up a few times the last year, but I was surprised OU didn't get an impact transfer this offseason. Other than Chavez who they supposedly spent $1.5 million NIL on from Jordan Brand and Trae Young, they brought in no impact freshman. So, what is my point? I get the feeling they spent all their NIL on Chavez. Will they have more NIL with Beers and Verhulst moving on? Maybe. But, I think OU's NIL on the women's side is prioritized for softball and gymnastics and I think hoops is third.

.-.
She has played good games vs SCar. Tough loss for OU.
Two words, in my opinion, for this departure: Aaliyah Chavez.
When your backcourt running mate demands the ball before, during and planning for next possession every time, I'd hit the road, too.

She could make a very good running mate for a guard who can share...even a little.

Not a surprise.
By contrast, a colleague of mine noted that Kymora Johnson "liked" a university social media post announcing the leadership change for women's basketball.; and, saw a screenshot of it. Since Johnson made her feelings public, it doesn't seem likes she's upset about the firing. Perhaps the hometown girl will stay.

Dang..............like our our resident Stanford fan needed another reason to hate the BIG10 😉
Well I was just thinking, if you are a player who got into Stanford, you went there for two reasons, right? So, where else to go - Ivies, or some place to make a mark and rejuvenate the NU program, and play in a pretty competitive conference?

Not saying this can't be true but I've not seen anything that validates it so I'm considering this an unsubstantiated rumor until I see said "liked" social media post.

Or, they could transfer within the conference and head to Duke (ACC champs).

You forgot about a third one: the weather. Evanston ain't got it!

All that said, I actually don't think that'd be a terrible landing place for Mary Ashley Stevenson, who is already familiar with the B1G from her time at Purdue. She is very well liked by the team and was a junior captain, and I feel like she'd be a terrific "culture" builder from day 1. If I were Berube I'd have MAS on the phone ASAP.

I assume Nunu's transferring because she'd like to taste post-season success, so year one of a program rebuild ain't that. I would expect she'll land at a place like UCLA or TCU that has had success folding in grad transfers from day 1.

It totally makes sense but I feel bad for FarmFan at the same time because of how much has changed at Stanford.

Appreciate it! Not going to lie, it's been a ROUGH two years to be a Stanford WBB fan. (I'm only thankful that our fall has been so much quieter than Tennessee's, which has been splattered around for all the world to see and guffaw at.)

Hoping Notre Dame

Virginia Tech's Carys Baker plans to enter the portal.

I’m wondering if UConn would be interested (and vice-versa). From West Hartford and played for Exodus in EYBL (Carol, Heckel). Floor spacer, can rebound, I think she’d be a great pickup.

Yikes! She's getting some bad advice from someone, but hey--maybe it'll be worth it. All the best to her.

Of the Elite 8 teams this season, she might've started for Notre Dame--only because they needed to field a complete roster. But she cannot play the three full-time and really doesn't have a strong WNBA future if she can't prove otherwise.

This has been rumored to be coming for a while but I think may be the turning point to us becoming the next ISU or Georgia. There are rumors (which seem to be well founded, since those sharing these rumors also called Nunu and Lara's entering the portal) that the relationship between the players and coaching staff was not good and some have called "toxic". And if you look at MAS's and Peterson's own Insta messages announcing their departure, they very pointedly said nothing about the coaching staff at all.

I'm not sure what this means going forward but obviously if you aren't getting the results AND the players are bolting due to your leadership style that's not a recipe for a long tenure on the Farm.

Wow, very surprised and disappointed that Somfai of Stanford is in the portal. I believe the others were grad transfers, but this is their best freshman. 😰

Perhaps there is more going on, but it's sad to see the Stanford education reduced to 'bad basketball fit'. I still think Stanford can get back in the game, but old fashioned hs recruiting and developing a core will still be the main building block.

Portal not even open yet, and all this news already.

Do you think any of the challenges are a result of moving to the ACC? It would seem that all the travel could significantly impact the players' academics.

That's a name that I was expecting to see if the rumors of Kate Paye being difficult to work with are true. Well, now we know.

Somfai at Duke would be so special, but I think she'd be a better fit for a team like Michigan.

If Chloe Clardy (not a freshman) or Hailee Swain hop into the portal, Virginia Tech needs to be all over them like white on rice. Same re Courtney Ogden.

Certainly it doesn't help anything - trying to scout 15 new teams, develop new away game logistics 8 times a season, and deal with 8am body clock Sunday games are all impediments to winning.

But I don't think that's what's driving this, I think it's the relationship between the players and coaching staff, from what I'm reading.
