2026 Transfer portal

Close continuously loses players to the portal. She has no choice but to go to the portal to have a team.
There seem to be coaches who continually lose players and coaches who tend to keep them. I doubt losing so many players is 100% on Coach Close, some of it may be institutional support. But a lot of it is on her, whether it's the players she recruits or how she interacts with them. UCLA is not a Big East team where a good player might leave after two or three years for greener pastures; it's a big university with lots of money in a big-time conference.

I've liked Brenda Frese for some time, but I'm beginning to question her methods since she seems to be running a revolving door.

Waltz chimes in…. Idk how you can’t like him

Walz response did not make me think better of him. A dickish, brown nosey response imo. He took the bait. Should know better than to answer a reporter's question about a colleague w/o knowing full context and demeanor. I watched Cori's almost 4 min responses to a couple reporter's questions. They were honest and reasonable and wanting to make better that seems everyone and their grandmother knows needs fixing. And no she isn't "contemplating retirement".

Glad we know we don't have to worry about Walz complaining about NIL and the portal

I have a feeling Purdue is going to lose several in the portal. Gearlds is already up to 3.
Kendall Puryear, 6-3, F, Soph. (6.6 ppg – plans to enter)
Lana McCarthy, 6-4, F, Soph. (7.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg – plans to enter)
Nya Smith, 5-9, G, Soph. (8 ppg – plans to enter)

Yeah, didn't make me think better of him either. Really good coach and seems like an okay guy but he could have answered that better especially considering that he said he and Close were friends. Yes, these top tier coaches are getting tons of money to coach. Yes, they chose the job. However, we all know that NIL and the transfer portal in particular are absolutely out of control and add a s%*t ton of stress to an already stressful job. Walz could have answered that more collegially rather than it being all about him.

Ugh, the big east is imploding again. We have to hope Creighton and Villanova can hang on to their players at least.

UCLA's gonna reload is a pipe dream. The only player on the roster who has given indications she could play 30 minutes for a Final Four team next year is Sienna Betts. You don't lose six seniors projected in the top 15 of the draft and reload with transfers in any meaningful sense.
I hear u. Just wanted to note Timea Gardiner should be back as well.

As of tonight the On3 portal site shows 348 players going in. I swear 250+ averaged less than 5 ppg last season. What are they going to gain? Many may lose the scholarship they already have.

I dont track the portals total #'s, but are the mens side having the same issues?

Okay, what's happening at Oklahoma St.?

Also, Whiting is getting up there as a well traveled player. Originally committed to Oregon, then switched to BYU to follow her mom. 2 years there, 1 year at Okie St. One more school just for good measure.

Favor all you intrepid trackers of portal entries - if an ESPN top 100 declares, please tag me in the post. I've been, um, collecting some data, because you know, spreadsheets, and off season topics to debate. 😁

Yeah, that's a yellow flag there. Understood why she left BYU following her mother's dismissal. However, three schools in three years?
Also, makes one wonder who is calling the shots there?
