2026 Transfer portal

Yikes. So Louisville just got a bit thinner going into the tournament. I feel for her teammates.
Something significant had to have prompted this. Considering she's a key part of rotation, the timing stands out to me.

Butler already wasn’t very good. Now young bright spots on the team are departing. It’s going to be another rough summer for the conference. I can tell. 🤦‍♂️

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. This is her third transfer.

I mean, it doesn't affect you nor is it any skin off your nose. She's not doing anything against the rules which have been established regarding the transfer portal. Live and let live.

She's not the first to transfer more than 2 or 3 times; Latasha Lattimore holds the record, I think. 🤣

I think Jah and Barker are cut from a similar cloth. They will get in their own way for the rest of their lives unless they change/grow up.

Well, we are talking about 18-22 year olds. I got in my own way when I was that age (and beyond), and THANK GOD, I did not have to do it on a national stage with strangers making comments about it. I don’t think I would have made it. And I say that seriously.

Well, there's the "student" aspect (which you are choosing to overlook) of the student-athlete experience that comes into play here. If you're transferring every year, how are you going to meet the requirements for graduation?

.-.
Don't even hint that a current UConn player should transfer, wants to transfer, is considering transferring ...

Every current player is a husky until she says otherwise publicly.

While this is true, the fact these 18-22 year olds are now getting paid through the donations of strangers and alumni to NIL collectives, the noise everywhere is going to be considerably louder.

Is that part of the transfer negotiations? Asking, because I don't know - but could a school that normally only allows 2 years of credits to transfer, just waive that for basketball player it really wants to join the team as a senior?

You nailed it. That's exactly what some schools do. They make it convenient for transfer after 1-2-3-4 years by being extremely flexible in accepting transfer credits.
Also, it's accepting kids outside of the normal application periods for the general student body.
This falls under the broad term of a school's 'institutional support' for athletics.

The most demanding academic schools are less likely to be flexible on transfer credits, credits taken at new school required to graduate, and just pure admission requirements.

Still let's say in addition to scholarship a player gets $25k at school A, $50k at school B, $75k at school C and then $100k at school D, they have built up a nice startup fund of $250k. Their resume only needs to read Bachelor of Arts from school D...no need to show all the transfers.

Of course there are plenty of other reasons to transfer...playing time, better competition, coaching change, chance for title etc. Increase in player salary has just now also become also a common one.

It will be interesting to see how many more from Tennesse enter:

I wanted her at ND, but I think some internet investigators noted she's followed Ole Miss' cosching staff on socials? But who knows these days.

Is Andraya Carter breaking transfer news now too?

Idk... but Skim backed it up by saying **she intends to.

The slothes at Volnation said the samething.

Per the Tennessee board, Maria Cornelius says 4 will leave. Prawl and Latham so far. Probably Boyd. Maybe Cooper or Civil? They are losing 4 seniors? Plus 4 from the portal? Of the 2 freshmen coming in (hopefully Edwards changes her mind), that will leave a roster of 6 next season. Caldwell will not only need to hit the portal, but get a fistful of elite players to even have a chance to play her hockey style sub strategy.

I was surprised it took this long for the first.

(I even checked to see if there were any more befire posting. Latham is a big loss.)

I think it will be more than 4. Why would anyone stay??
It's a fair question. Add to it - why do elite recruits STILL choose Tennessee?
  • 2022 - #11 Pissot (she subsequently transferred)
  • 2023 - no one
  • 2024 - #37 Boyd
  • 2025 - #9 Pauldo, #17 Prawl, #20 Civil, #45 Hurst, #57 other Pauldo (Caldwell's first recruiting class and she loaded up)
  • 2025 - #2 Edwards, #62 Minus
My point is, Caldwell is a former DII coach with no track record in an elite women's program, yet she cleaned up recruiting the first 2 seasons. She also got some elite portal transfers to round out the roster.

We'd have to ask the recruits why, but at the top of the list of why is probably the storied past. 2nd best program in history. Good/great facilities. Rabid fan base. And maybe the hope of returning Tennessee to glory.

To answer your question, we have no idea what she's saying in the conversations with players now. I'm sure she is in full "salesperson" mode. Stay, tweak some things about our substitution gimmick, I promise to actually teach some offense, etc. LOL. No idea. I wouldn't want any part of that train wreck, but some players apparently do...

I agree. I mean if your daughter was a top recruit and you watched this year unfold what would you say your kid?? Stay with your commitment??

Believe you're referring to the other Pauldo sister here.

This feels like an unexpected curve ball to me.

I mean, statistically wasn't something like 1/3rd of all D1 players in the portal last season? I guess these days I assume almost everyone outside of some top players on top teams are question marks until I hear something definitive...

Statistically yes, but Petrie has done well in this system and Nebraska hasn't been a team that has been affected by transfers, outside of their 2022 season, as much as others from what I recall. She's also been a key part of the roster and has improved every season.

Pretty sure her minutes next season will take a significant hit with Potts back and a highly rated freshman coming in. Guess she doesn’t want her senior year to be primarily spot minutes.

I think it’s 4 freshman and a couple of other players

I know she has to close the deal but my understanding is it’s the assistant coach, Gabe, that’s getting the players there.

We're about at the point where these players weren't even born yet the last time Tennessee went to the Final 4/won a Championship. How can that still hold some cache for up and coming high school players?
