2026 Recruiting - Kate Harpring

In my view, Kate should be the #2 priority for 2026, just after Olivia and just before Jerzy. I imagine the chances of hitting a recruiting trifecta like this one would be pretty slim. And I fear they get a little bit slimmer if Kayleigh transfers to Storrs.
 
Again, from what I’m told, she will not be a Husky! She may stop by for a visit but she won’t be committing. Which if you think about it explains a lot.

No disrespect to those who think the Big O is the next 2nd coming, Kate Harpring is my #1 pick class 2026. If Kate is pick #1 I would love to have the Big O as the second coming. Lets face it Geno has proven many times that he can win it all without the best big, it's much harder without that top floor general. For all those that know for certain, facts about who goes where how about some lottery number help.

It seems clear with the full court press on getting Heckel that Harpring will not be coming to UConn. Why would you recruit a pg the year before the best pg in years might be available? My guess is that Geno has concluded that Harpring is a “no” for UConn and he sees Heckel as better than any non Harpring choices in the 2026 recruiting class. Though I am severely bummed that Harpring looks like a miss, this roster remains the best in WCBB and hopefully we can get Olivia and Jerzy and perhaps we’ll find our next “generational pg in the ‘27 or ‘28 class.:(

Most college ready kid I've seen in HS since Bueckers for all around skills and purest shooter. Like Strong's ex-pro parents, I'm sure her dad knows the value of pro prep at UConn but I'm just not optimistic that that would be the deciding factor. Sure hope I'm wrong.

Her use of official visits thus far to Duke and UCLA along with continuous contact with local and family ties to GaYech could indicate that she may value the quality of education more than pro prep. But , then again, she has taken an official to Iowa . So really nobody knows and she has taken many official visits to nearby schools like SCar, Tennessee, Clemson, UGA etc, All are easily drivable for games by her family.

Yeah, that’s why I’m not optimistic.

She remains my number 1 want for our Huskies. I know, scoff if you will, yell no it's the big O. I get it and would love to land Big O. Big O would be joining a group of capable 4-5's, No hissing please, the group was more than good enough to bring home the Natty. Ok a large part of that was Ms. Buckets, I know we will find out next season how much she will be missed. Impossible to replace her talent, perhaps the most efficient WCBB player ever, and the best all-around player in the woman's college game in many years, or longer.
This leaves the biggest hole to fill for me, the best all-around H.S. senior who comes the closest to filling the void Paige has left is Kate. I know that if we get Big O the offense may shift where she can fill the scoring, and some other player may fill in this stat or another. Just name one player who can lead the team on the floor, score, defend assist, rebound and dictate all facets of the game. This is why I pick Kate as my number 1 for the next recruiting class. I have heard here on the BY that she has no interest in UConn Ok, until it comes from her, I continue to place her number 1A.:cool:

Official or unofficial visits? Seems like the rules have changed as to how many official visits total a recruit can take, and even more than one to the same school in some scenarios.

I think this comes close to closing the book on the pursuit of a PG from the 2025 class. The drop-off after Kate is pretty steep. I think the approach was if you can get the best one, go for it, if not then wait for 2026 or 2027 class. With KK and Kayleigh coming back after this year, getting one this year wasn't a burning need, but Kate potentially might have been better than either.
