29-42 in the ACC (and that's with 11 wins this past season) and was a bear to work with. Her firing may have prevented a mass exodus.

Tells me they've been working on this for several days if not weeks.

Plus, the portal opens tomorrow. The sooner a head coach is in place the better. Will still take a while to assemble a coaching staff unless she brings several from McNeese.

A great hire and perfect timing! Kudos to UGA! She's a rising star, and you have to snag those early before the price goes up.

Wow! Had a gaudy record in her 1 year at McNeese. Prior to that a gaudy record in her final year at SE Louisiana, preceded by pretty meh, in one of the worst conferences in the country. Seems like a STRETCH. Did they learn nothing from the disaster at Tennessee?

I'm gonna say this strictly from the outside looking in. I just don't think Georgia prioritizes women's hoops over its other female sports.

I recall they poached the women's track & field head coach from Southern Cal a few years ago the week after she won the NCAA Outdoor team championship. It's paid off as she won the women's Indoor title last month.

I'd say Georgia's NIL for women's athletics goes to Track & Field, Tennis, Gymnastics, and Softball ahead of hoops; I definitely could be wrong.

I don't know if this will be enough to retain Kymora, so hopefully he hires someone who can work that portal. I can't see them being able to pull a Liv McGill, a Jada Williams, or a Zam Jones to replace Kymora.

I'm going to assume that he's not abusive (unlike his predecessor), so that's a plus!

I was hoping for more. He does have a good record at his level though. Agree - not sure he can attract the caliber of player we need to become truly competitive.
He did, however, get Richmond to 3 straight NCAA tournaments - better than any UVA coach in recent history.

Who said coaches don't transfer to 3 schools in 3 years? She may need to sit out a year. 😁

I feel strongly both ways on this. On the one hand, they could’ve swung somewhat higher. On the other hand, they needed someone who was a clear change from Mox and Tina, and they got it.

I’ve seen quite a bit of Richmond the last few years, and I like what I’ve seen of Roussel. His teams to coach a heady sort of basketbal, although I thought they should’ve done better this past seasonl. Question is, can he change up his style to fit better in to the ACC? And of course can he convince Kymora to stay?

Like this hire and said so on The Bench (thought I did here, too, but ???)

I (think I) thought UVA shouldn't bother swinging for the fences this time and should focus on successful mid-major coaches and my favorite two were Roussel and Megan Griffith of Columbia. He's done well everywhere he's been and took Richmond to the NCAA three times with that victory of Ga. Tech.

Rather than look at the fact that his best players are now graduating, I look at the fact that they stuck around to play at a mid-major rather than try to move up to P4 and make a few bucks. BTW, that includes Maggie Doogan, who easily could've done so (She'll make hers in the W next year.)

This is why I think he'll do well: first, he can locate a core group of players that he can develop from schools he already recruits from.
They'll recognize the value of a UVA degree and stay there. Second, he'll then use that very sizeable amount of NIL money gifted to UVA to go after both HS and Transfer prospects. UVA should be able to get back on top and if he plays his cards right, he'll start pressuring Va. Tech, UNC, Ga. Tech, etc.

If he can get Kymora Johnson to stay, that would be a great start. Drive down to Midlothian, Va. and introduce yourself to Lanie Grant and Mia Woolfolk and get yourself a shooting guard and center. Lastly, I hear Sam Brunelle did a good job as a first-year assistant at Navy. She's a Charlotte kid...bring her back to work with you. What a draw she'd be.

Oh, I did just say coaches don't coach at 4 different schools in 4 years, but this is getting close.

Things aren't looking good on this front so far. Grant's headed to TCU and Kymora's looking elsewhere.

I think next season's going to be a bit rough for the Hoos. Roussell's supposedly bringing his entire staff (like Mox did in 2022), which spells disaster when it comes to winning ACC games. Additionally, Mox really screwed UVA over with her poor high school recruiting efforts beyond the 2023 class.
