2025 WNBA Regular Season

Stewie had a lower leg injury 4 minutes into the game. I hope she is ok.

The Mystics bumped the Valkyries out of a playoff position tonight.

LA beat NY on the road. Looks like Stewie barely played, so if you wanna put an asterisk next to it, but it still counts. JJ is back, Ionescu and Cloud combined for 52 points and 15 assists, so it's not like the Lib played a terrible game. Buzzer beat for Jackson. Circus/prayer shot that went in. They were determined Plum wasn't going to bet the ball on the inbound for the last shot, but Rickea led them in scoring w/ 24 today.

Stewie left the game very early with a leg/knee injury. And no, no asterisk. it’s a bad loss for NY

Watching the New York/LA game and seeing Stewie limping. That was tough to watch. Like others have said, hopefully nothing serious.

Washington/Seattle: Washington, like Golden State, are playing some exciting basketball! Coach Johnson has the Mystics playing well. They looked good against Seattle. Sonia/Kiki/Shakira/Brittney, that Fantastic Four is lethal. They have a nice squad. Aaliyah Edwards was out with a wrist injury. My only knock against Coach Johnson, he has to figure out a way to get Lucy Olsen some minutes. I know it is easier said than done but when Washington played Minnesota few weeks ago, Lucy was Villanova Lucy in that game!

Seattle, minus Nneka, looked like they just had other things on their minds. Nneka was crushing it in that first half of the game. The 2nd half, not sure what happened. Well, it really started in the 2nd quarter. 14 points and you are a professional team? Yikes. I don't want to give all the credit to Washington and their defense but was it really the Mystics defense or just poor offensive execution by Seattle? Seattle with that much talent, just looked like they rather be someplace else than playing a game on a Saturday.

What?! Sun destroying the Valkyries today. Any given game, it's just about impossible to guess what will happen.

Chicago-Indiana game moved to a bigger arena...no Clark or Reese. Oops.

Mitchell just got clobbered on a layup (no foul of course) and limped off the floor. Might've caught a knee to the inner thigh.

There was another play earlier, Boston grabbed a defensive rebound and then got mugged by a bunch of Sky players. Jump ball called. The player who jumped against her...was partially out of bounds when the tie up was called. My goodness WNBA refs are beyond incompetent. It's unbelievable how bad they are.

Yeah, and Thornton is out for the Valks, but still I'm pretty sure NOBODY predicted a 30 point victory for the Sun today.
Not making excuses, but whoever scheduled a 10 a.m. PDT Sunday game in Uncasville after the Valkyries finished off Dallas at 9:20 p.m. PDT Friday in San Francisco was not setting them up to succeed. Plus obviously they were missing Ballhalla...

Banham is going off today. So is Mitchell (she did return from an earlier leg issue). Indiana was up big, Chicago cut the lead to 2, but Fever built it back up to 14 at the end of Q3. I'm impressed w/ Timpson today. Howard has been a no show but the rook is making up for it.

Statisticians stole an assist from Boston because her pass was tipped before Mitchell caught it and drained a 3. How does that work? It was still a pass and it still resulted in a bucket. Does the defender get the assist because she got a finger tip on it?

Until Emma gets here the Liberty missing either Jones or Stewie is a big problem on the defensive end of the floor. Rebounding and causing other teams to take tougher shots because of their ability to block shots.

Loyd has been benched in favor of Bell?! In what world is Bell a starter in the WNBA?

edit--I can kinda understand shaking things up to try to get Loyd going, but why not Nye or Evans as a starter instead of KB?

No Bueckers today. Is the injured list the MVP this season? SO many players out off and on.

Indiana wins, Mitchell scored 35. She took another knee to the thigh late and was limping again. Is this "sweep the leg" stuff going on? Banham scored 26.

Umm...Bell scored 19 on 6-11 shooting and 3-7 behind the arc. Maybe she read my comment during the game?

Yes..... The close scheduling on some of these back-to-backs places a tremendous strain on the players. Las Vegas had a similar situation.

I do understand the compressed schedule and challenges posed by the calendar but there does seem to me to be a basic requirement to provide at least adequate time for rest between end of first game and tip off a second game.

I've had some thoughts rumbling around my head for a while about a comment made by DT when South Carolina won the national title with Cardoso. She made a comment (paraphrasing) that unlike in the men's game, athleticism cannot beat height/reach. While mostly true, I feel like there are more and more athletic players joining the league and I just wonder if the tides are slowly turning. It still takes elite athleticism but I think there are some great forwards out there who can out rebound or block a big like Cardoso or Griner. KK Timpson had a rebound today where she jumped higher than Cardoso, basically fingertips above the rim, to grab a defensive rebound.

Anyways, just a Sunday evening thought for y'all... it makes me wonder if the "cheat code" that is a 6'7"+ center will no longer be a thing in the near future.

Interesting thought. When was the last time a true C lead a team to a championship? Griner back in 2014? Fowles in 2017? I feel like these days, even the big bigs like Jonquel Jones, Stewie and A'ja are extremely multifaceted, as was Candace Parker, Emma Meeseman, and EDD. Griner's game feels extremely one-note by comparison, but it's probably not a coincidence they've all won championships since she did...

So the dog days of July are dragging to an end. We've seen the impact on court of some very close back to back game scheduling.

The presumptive COY after losing at home to Atlanta is in the midst of a very long road trip that is really challenging the entire organization.

The trip continues to Indiana then Atlanta and Chicago before finally returning home. Inquiring minds are looking to the Atlanta game to see if the million dollar coach can duplicate the Dream road win in Phoenix.

Why doesn't AT receive more support as mvp. The announcers of the game called her a force of nature which is so true. After a particularly rough offensive foul on AT the announcer it said she also has a maniacal smile. Which is also true

Monica McNutt during halftime at the fever Sky game picked Atlanta as the team in the second half of the season to watch due to a very weak strength of remaining schedule. Wonder if she was thinking of the Merc as she formed this analysis.

Dream beat both Phoenix and Minnesota on the road so .......can you spell Walker-Kimbrough?

Karl Smesko COY worthy?
