Shephard w/ a triple double for Minnesota, I'm guessing that's her first.
Cheryl Reeve has been a believer in Jessica Shepard since Shep was still at ND...and that belief and confidence seems to be paying off the more Shep plays long minutes. In fact, she played all 40 en route to 22 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
She shot 10-11 from the floor and what I liked most about her game was taking defensive rebounds and pushing the ball up court on the break. Not only can she rebound like Kevin Love, but she can now dribble and dish pretty darn well.

This can only help the Lynx down the road. Once 'Phee returns, Reeve can use Smith and Shep (whose confidence has to be growing) effectively.

How exactly do you see this falling into place after this season? In one statement, you have Stewart leaving for Dallas. The next has Messeman and Jones also involved in this move. What am I missing here?

The other question I have is why would Stewart consider moving to Dallas when she's playing for a team and an ownership group who has made significant investments to provide their players with better resources? Dallas hasn't shown that level of commitment yet.
In case you haven't realized it Stewie is on the backend of her career, and she always has been about winning titles. Both Emma and JJ are also in their 30's, and they want to win titles.
I said before I'm not a Sabrina or Clark fan, they both would be better if they shot less and fed their inside people more. And both could be a lot better on defense if they worked on it.

Those two are part of the problem, Sabrina shoots too much and Cloud has had a lot of bad games lately. And I don't see anything changing in that offense. The Liberty don't get many second chance points, and are near the bottom of the league in shooting free throws.
And that is because of Sandy's 5 out offense. Sandy won 1 title in phoenix with Dee, Griner , Bonner, Dupre, and Taylor a couple of years.
I've been critical of Sandy's few Championships given all the talent she's had to work with...but she, Ionescu and Cloud all have more WNBA Titles than anybody currently associated with Dallas. So why would anybody want to join that franchise?

First of all, credit to Seattle's defense (particularly Sykes and Diggins), but no one else on the Wings (besides Siegrist cleaning up some messes inside) could hit a shot tonight. Paige didn't even have an assist (& I had a feeling that it was going in that direction in the first quarter, when a beautiful Paige pass put a teammate in position for an uncontested layup - which, of course, was missed).
Paige scored all her points in the first half (6 on free throws) as Seattle's was fouling her virtually every time she touched the ball, and she only put up 2 or 3 shots in the 3rd quarter.
Dallas was brutally bad tonight, and Malonga (in contrast) was excitingly good.
At least Paige got to sit the entire fourth quarter...
Seattle won by 35 without a single starter scoring in double figures.

edit--Seattle's bench outscored the entire Dallas team 62-60; Storm are claiming that's never happened in WNBA history

Well, you've gotten around to the points that I consider most important: not only are most core Liberty players in their 30's, but nine -- 9! -- are UFA's after this season. So the Liberty and numerous other teams will have opportunities to mix and match vets with teams that have rookies on entry-level contracts.

To be exact, these members of the Liberty are free to go wherever they want/can get signed next year: Stewie, Meesseman, JJ, Cloud, Talbot, Laney, Harrison, Burke and Ionescu. As of now, only two are under 30: Burke and Ionescu. Here's a breakdown:

Last I checked, Brondello was the coach of the team that won the WNBA title last year. @azfan would love to have her back.
I think the thing that Sandy misses most this year is a healthy Stewie. Ditto for her teammates: Stewie makes players better.

As for Stewie, I think she's numberof priorities. Besides winning championships, she also wanted to come to Brooklyn for personal reasons. How important are those to her?

It will be an interesting off-season but -- if Stewie comes back -- I look forward to seeing how this plays out this season and playoffs.

Pretty much everybody is a FA after this season, except those still on rookie contracts. I'm sure it will be an entertaining merry-go-round of players changing teams. I don't really see 3 or 4 players from 1 team all going to another team together. Seems...unlikely. And here's the big thing about everybody going to Dallas. If we're gonna question Brondello as a coach, what about Koclanes? He's done exactly nothing thus far in his career. Can't see a bunch of players clamoring to be coached up by him. Unless he gets canned in the off season, but then who will Dallas bring in to replace him?

And not knowing how much the salary cap is going to be is going to make a big difference.

Stewie on the backend of her career?? Huh… pretty sure this was said her most recent mvp year.

It does indeed sound painful, nwhoopfan, yet I'm really happy for Dearica, and truly appreciate the support from Triad. She's labored so well, almost unnoticed, throughout her WNBA career, just as she did for a middling to poor Deacon women's program.

By the way, Triad, do you remember Gil McGregor? He was in my class at Wake and, while not a great player, his solid contributions were usually overshadowed by the brilliance of Charlie Davis.

Congrats to all the Deacon inducees, or inductees.😉

Ive been singing her praises here on the Boneyard for a decade. It's a testament to her hard work that she wasn't even in the top 150 high school players in her class, yet she managed to go #6 in the 2015 draft. I looked back through some old posts, and a few times I said if I were a GM I'd take her #1 overall.🧐

As far as McGregor, I remember him as the color commenter of my beloved Charlotte Hornets (version 1). I always enjoyed listening to him and his insight.
That sounds painful. I would rather be inducted than induced.

😒 Typing on a phone will do that. Didn't even realize the typo until 7 minutes ago.

To me, this is a really important point. I would be very surprised if Breanna “Stew York” Stewart left the Liberty. She’s a New Yorker by birth and she and her wife Marta have really embraced living in the city and raising their kids there. I think Stewie is still the caliber of player with the clout to draw people to play with her and the Wu Tsais have created a very attractive place to play in Brooklyn. I could easily see her retiring in a Liberty jersey—hopefully many years from now.

This is another reason why the idea Dallas doesn't make any sense, to me. Proximity is a huge factor. But to me, the Tsai's commitment to the players on their roster is something that Stewart seems to values highly. Dallas isn't at that point just yet.

It's a little weird that a player 3rd in scoring and assists is talked about so little. LA got off to a terrible start and her FG shooting wasn't great, but she's heated up quite a bit and they've been winning.

Plum may not be getting enough credit from the media, but this little superfan appreciates her. Real fans know what's up. 😍😍

The way the Liberty are playing Stewie might better wait until she can find a new team next year. Sandy's 5 out offense has become a mess. And the defense is terrible.
I still say Dallas with Paige, Miller, Siegrist, and Lou would be a good place for 3 bigs who can play inside, and out, and are good defenders.
Paige would get Stewie, Emma, and JJ the ball and Paige , Lou, and Siegrist would knock down enough kickout shots to be a very good team.
Is this the same 5 Out Offense that helped them win 5 in a row..only to mess around and lose 4 in a row, only to turn it around to win 3-4 more in a row? The Liberty's defense, like other teams, is always about who you play and when you are playing them. In some back to back games, you can see the Liberty, again like a lot of teams, out there struggling. It happens. I am sure New York will turn it up in the playoffs.

Happy for Aerial on this signing with the Fever. It is only 7-Days, but it is better than nothing. I hated that we let her go here in Minnesota.
It's a revolving door in Indy right now. We signed Bibby as the 12th player with funds opened up from losing Bonner, and now Bibby is being replaced by Powers 😖

Yeah. The injuries just keep coming Indy's way. I know all teams are dealing with bumps and various injuries of some kind. It is just Indiana is in the news and across my timeline, all the time, so we get to read about the latest injury to a player on the Fever. I just read something about Odyssey Sims suffering an injury in the game against Minnesota the other day. My heart goes out to Coach White. She went in thinking, "I got a generational talent in CC. I got a great post player in Boston. Pretty solid core of players Hull, Sophie, Mitchell...I have a team that can compete this season for a title!". The team could still pull off winning the whole thing. Who knows. But fans of the Fever and basketball fans in general, got to admire the job that Coach White is doing dealing with the number of injuries and roster adjustments she and her coaching staff are juggling this season and to field a competitive team. Well done, Coach White.

To be fair, Bobby is the most recent Fever player to be out due to injury.

A'ja is 1st in player efficiency, 1st in win shares (in 22 wins each), 2nd in rebounds, 2nd in scoring (and closing), 1st in blocks, and the best player.

This has always been Collier's Barkley-esque "she deserves one," perennial All Star, best player on best regular season team MVP. Missing this many games should cost her the trophy. She's pushing a full quarter of the season.
Agreed. Collier missing 10 games plus this push by Wilson and Vegas likely catapults A’ja to #1.

Nothing against any of the individual players, but it is discouraging to see so many injury opportunities going to AAAA fringe vets.

The league needs some equivalent to MLS homegrown or generation adidas deals limited to 25 and under to give more roster depth while encouraging development.

Who makes the WNBA schedule? Makes no sense at all. Sparks have almost a week between games after their win over Dallas. From 8/17-8/26 they play a total of 3 games. Then starting 8/29 they literally play every-other day until the end of the season. From 8/29-9/11 they have 8 games.

Oh wait, they do have a back to back in there. Home game at 5 pm, then the next night they are in Seattle for a 7 pm game.

I see no lies told , its been understood the WNBA media are tired of Aja winning MVP so they needed an up & coming marketable face like Napheesa . Shes a baller but shes not the best player in the league . Sucks AT keeps getting screwed because the WNBA refuses to market her other than her Gay Marriage to Dewanna Bonner smh. AT has deserved MVP well before Napheesa and by Phee getting it this year it will ensure AT will never win the award going forward .

Absolutely! Elite coach, classic individual, and a demonstrated record of success and more importantly commitment to the w.

One of the many mistakes made by the Phoenix franchise was showing her the door.

The w over the years has been blessed with a number of exceptional elite players deserving of the MVP

AT is one of those players and this season is demonstrating that she has earned the MVP

However she's playing in the Wilson era and there's absolutely no doubt that Wilson earned and deserved her previous MVPs and is once again as she always does having another MVP season.

This season they are 1A and !B

Stewies last MVP definitely belonged to AT smh .

A'ja has had a career's worth of 30/10 games...in the last couple weeks. Seems to me pretty clear she is the front runner for MVP now. Collier is up to 10 missed games, almost 1/4 of the season, and it's coming during the home stretch. Is there any kind of time table for her return?
