2025 WNBA Off-Season

The president of the WNBPA joining as a player/investor in a basketball league that is literally promoting itself as a rival of the WNBA is a crazy conflict of interest but nothing surprises me anymore with the dealings of the WNBA.
Maybe, I actually see it the opposite: if the members of the WNBPA have attractive competing options, that actually increases their bargaining power, including being able to strike and afford to do so. I see Unrivaled largely the same way. The only way there's a conflict of interest is if these activities actually hurt the incentive or bargaining power of the WNBPA, and I don't see either of them as doing that.

If the players actually want the wnba to exist, I think they should replace Nneka. Appoint someone new for that position.

I watched a podcast yesterday that said the starting salary is $2 million and the league is NOT funded by the Saudis. Who has that kind of money?

There are 100 Americans who are worth 12 billion dollars.

12 billion is enough to pay 12 salaries of 1 million each for

I believe the "not funded by the Saudis" is debateable. I believe it's one of those "it depends on how you define it." I've seen it classified both ways.

With the start of college season and the collective bargaining agreement, the fact the Liberty were still looking for a coach slipped off my radar.

Has there been much W success with "men who have never coached/been an assistant" on a women's team? I feel like there have been many many more failures than successes.

Not sure, but I can understand the sentiment.

Bill Laimbeer won 3 titles in Detroit and coached in 5 finals. I don't think he had prior experience coaching women.

Nate Tibbetts is off to a good start and led the Merc to the finals in year 2 with only NBA experience.

Mike Thibault was another great WNBA coach (3x COY, 1 title and 4 final appearances) without prior experience.

The wings did it. They won the draft. And I think Awa Fam should be the pick. She’s this year’s Malonga.

Mystics still are winners. Either Olivia Miles or Azzi Fudd. Plus they have three picks in the top 11.
Thus is two years in a row for Washington to have three first round picks. Their front office is doing something right. Good for them. A bunch of young studs.

I would really like to see Azzi go to the Lynx. The Lynx need to give KMac a partner on the wing. BC is just not reliably scoring these days and Carrington is still rehabbing.

Dallas needs a center. I also don't think Azzi and Paige should mix business with pleasure. College is one thing but the pros is something else as young players just starting out.

1. Dallas
2. Minnesota
3. Seattle
4. Mystics
5. Chicago

I’d expect Betts or Fam to go #1. A lot of Paige fans will obviously push for Fudd who’d also be a good pick but a high level big had more value than a high level wing IMO. Definitely a different feel to this draft without a clear cut #1 pick for the first time in probably 6 years. No one feels like a guaranteed star ala Clark, Paige or Boston.

Betts at 1 would potentially be a massive mistake imo. I really do believe the wnba is moving away from that kind of center. That’s not me hating on Betts. It’s me watching McCowen, Cardoso, and even Britney Griner struggle to find roles last year.
