This stuff amazes me. I understand some kids get homesick and want to play more, but you knew the score when you signed up that you'd be playing behind some talented upperclassmen and likely not see much time when you have an experienced roster who is contending for a NC.

I can understand after year 2 if a player isn't getting any time and others are being brought in maybe exploring other options but one year isn't really enough time.
I’m not sure why you are amazed
The two UCLA players were very highly recruited players who got minimal playing time as a freshman
All of the players ahead of them are returning
So they’re going to take another season and not play?
Your comment that they should’ve known the score seems pretty foolish to me
imho the large roster size (up to 15) pretty much ensures lots of players will leave because of lack of playing time
due to injuries up until this year uconn has managed to have playing time for most of the roster

Timing is off. As an incoming frosh, most folks sign their letter of intent in November. The transfers, by and large, announce and sign in April and/or May. They have no idea what's hitting them later in the school year. How did Kendall Dudley or her Sidwell Friends teammate
Zania Socka-Neguemen (who also just joined the portal) know Timea Gardiner and Janiah Barker were both going to join the Bruins?

Your question, however, does give me pause: Why not wait until the regular signing period (April), as a very few people did last and this year, to sign off? On the other hand, schools that were interested in them might sign transfers. It's a quandry.
agree with you but it works both ways
the players are not tied to the letter of intent
anymore and could certainly gone to another school
not the ideal situation but in this case the blatant
recruiting over players by coach Close is notable

As I see it the players knew who was in front of them (more or less) when they decided to attend and came anyway. If a freshman wants to play big minutes, there are plenty of programs who aren't FF caliber programs to join. I feel the same way about the talented USC freshmen who are leaving. It takes a special freshman to come in and get minutes right away when someone like KiKi Rice or JuJu Watkins is a known commodity and will likely be the top players on the squad.

I have no problems with players who want to play but it seems some of them have unrealistic expectations. There are plenty of schools who will take these ladies but why sign in the fall until you have a better idea who is going to be around you?

.-.
High school seniors have an incredible amount of pressure on them to sign, because if they don’t, they might end up without a school or at one they really don’t want to attend. I think that puts a lot of pressure on them to sign in the early signing period. It’s not really feasible to change schools in the spring, because most of the good programs will have locked up their players for next year. That means that you’re going to see a lot of transfers at the end of freshman year.

Dudley and Socka-Nguemen both signed prior to Gardiner and Barker coming via the portal. I believe all 4 player similar positions too. The roster of what they committed to was very diffferent from the roster they ended up being on.

No one can forecast the future, particularly not HS juniors/seniors who think that they have what it takes to star at whatever school they are considering. Add in their parents (who almost uniformly think their kids are better than they are), and even the college coaches who need to recruit for both next year, the year after that, and to insure against the inevitable injuries that will occur and you are talking about a huge mess of ill-considered probabilities.

So, almost everyone is getting a bucket of water to the face after they arrive in a program. The transfer portal is the inevitable reaction to that. Unfortunately, the byproduct of this game of musical chairs is that both programs and players will find themselves without a chair.

the short answer is that players overestimate
how good they are and minimize how hard it is not to get playing time

these players are in the top 100 of thousands of HS players have been not just better but FAR FAR better than kids their age. hard for them not to believe that they'll succeed in college

I bet Tennessee, St. John’s and FSU never considered themselves “ in the mix.”
Well, now there's conflicting info as to whether the teams are still on the list or who knows.

I thought she already admitted that that list was a lie from the start?
Think you have this mixed up with her initial recruitment. Someone posted earlier she had a list that included Louisville which was false.

.-.
Can someone fill me in on her? I know she can ball but why isn’t she getting bigger offers??
She only played 21 of their 33 games. I don't think she was injured. She was officially suspended at least once during the season. I suspect she was suspended for a considerable portion of the year. There are red flags. Definitely talented.

Only really like the Oklahoma fit. Unless clw is content with being backup point. I get Texas lost shay holle. But Jordan Lee was hoooooooping late in the season and if Laila phelia is healthy I think they are fine on the wing.

Oklahoma will have Chavez, Verhulst, Sahara Williams, and Raegan Beers; they only lost their starting PG and PF to graduation.

That's y I like it for them. They like spreading the floor shooting threes. I think Williams can kinda play as an undersized 4. You add kneepkens and give her the green light, they become just a super explosive offensive team. I think verhulst is underrated but had to kinda play point and wing at times. Adding Chavez and Kneepkens allows her to play a little more off the ball.
