I just read on The Next that 5 UVA players have entered the portal. I’ve read every one of these posts and only recall seeing one of the names (Lattimore). So I’m assuming that not all portal entries make it to the Boneyard - seeing as how there are probably 1000 by now, I guess that makes sense! BTW - Noyan was the only other one of the 5 who started regularly this past year. But losing 5 adds to my worries about coach Mox.

All the speculation about NIL money, wanting to be in a more balanced offensive system, etc., definitely makes sense, but part of me wonders if living through a natural disaster that could easily happen again during their time in school might make a kid from Canada/Idaho or New York wish for (literally) greener pastures. Does that sound totally bonkers?

USC had to convince three top players of the 2024 class, now only Kenndy Smith (#6) remains. All three are eligible for next summer's U19 World Championship. For my part, I think that spending so much time on travel, being a California team that plays in the Big 10, is perhaps not totally unrelated to its decisions.

I just don't know how anyone would choose to be in the coaching profession any more. You work hard to build a team...and then half of them leave. On a yearly basis. It's almost pointless now. Every day I inch closer to just quitting following college sports. There's so much about it now that I do not like.

I believe they alternate travel weekends. Not that that's a lot better. Tho teens are a lot more oblivious to things.
I think they also have one 3-game road-trip, so it ended up as 4 trips to the midwest/east.
I'm guessing they'll also play more local non-conference games in anticipation of travel later in the year. For one, they can now play their old PAC rivals for quality-non-conf games that aren't too far.

If I read correctly somewhere, the B1G spreads the games out, you have to have 2 days off between games. This makes the travel even more awkward, but accounts for gaps between when teams played (for example) UCLA and USC.

Is it worth it? Like mentioned previously in this thread, some very high profile men's coaches walked away from the game, when they had plenty of years left they could've kept coaching. They were getting paid a lot more than $ million a year. Obviously for some the answer is "no" it's not worth it, regardless of the money.

Some of his comments are annoying but theres no doubt Raoul does a fabulous job with maintaining these lists.

I'm guessing the same has been the case for decades in pro sports regarding free agency; some players fulfill their contracts, while others make demands to be traded. Some become part of forced trades which they never expected.

Players transferring in college is now part of life. For every coach who quits due to this, there is some other coach just waiting to take their place and salary. So, it's not "worth it" to everyone; but it's "worth it" to enough coaches that vacancies will always be filled.

Weather or natural disasters could play a role in a transfer’s decision. However, it is probably near or at the bottom (if anywhere) on their attribute list. A few recent examples: Angel Reese transferred to LSU, ground zero for Gulf Coast hurricanes. Beers transferred to Oklahoma in the middle of tornado alley, Lara Somfai selected Stanford despite its being close to the fault line. I imagine NIL $$$$$ and playing time are more likely to influence their decision.

USC looks like a perfect spot for Miles from Notre Dame with Kiki gone. They’ll be money for her because that’s probably what she’s looking for the rumor of Connecticut seems like a false hope situation. If she is hunting a national championship attempt, then Connecticut actually becomes a possibility, but the money would be on the West Coast.
