Geno Auriemma, UConn Named a Top Landing Spot For Notre Dame Star Olivia Miles

Yeah, the theory is a head scratcher but not surprised people are putting it out there. Was confused by the way the post framed the question.

These clickbait articles are an unflattering testament to the state of media culture.

Talk about a weasel statement: “UConn named a top landing spot...” Okay great, but named by whom?

The article links back to a USA Today piece by some no-name writer that simply throws out a list of 5 potential “landing spots” for Miles (UConn, USC, S. Car., Texas, TCU), but with absolutely zero attribution to any sources whatsoever, anonymous or otherwise.

Still can.

I've watched unbelievable player development at McClintock High School, Mesa Community College, Arizona Eastern, and Northern Arizona University. And in the old days with CCT and I think those days are going to return with Molly Miller at ASU.

And you're absolutely correct this is one of the most enjoyable things about watching Athletics is the development from the point when they come in as freshmen to the point that they leave five years later.

I remember when Reagan Schenk came to NAU as a freshman point guard. 5 years later she had a triple-double and had made a lasting impact on the program. I was crossed falling after her graduation because the freshman had been sitting behind her in her fifth year was Taylor Feldman who I was convinced would never be able to play Big sky level basketball.

Flash Forward Taylor was the second leading scorer in the Big sky tremendous leader as well as a constant point guard.

I know all of the dedicated fans on the BY have had this experience both in the distance past recent past and we'll have in the future

So yeah it's still possible to watch this perhaps not at the elite power 4 level but I suspect that you're local high school, community college, or state school or smaller private school you will be able to see this. I know I hvw
Great point, and you're absolutely right. Here in Connecticut, we have a bunch of colleges, and, given that we're a small state, none of them are that far from where I live. While UConn is the big draw, we also have DI Central CT State University, Fairfield, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, and Yale (my alma mater). Then we've got four DII schools, ten DIII schools, and two NJCAA schools with women's basketball programs. This is a good reminder that if I don't like the direction that big-time DI sports are heading, I can vote with my dollars, feet, and eyeballs and support some of these other programs in my backyard.

I work with someone who knows L. Olsen. I asked about the reasons for her transferring:

NIL $$ (NovaMBB gets whatever $ available)
Games on FloSports (big issue)
Vague reference to Denise Dillon. No specifics.
I have nothing to comment on Dillon, but with the glaring inequities between MBB and WBB and the deplorable FloSports deal (and the two are linked phenomena), is it any wonder the more skilled players are leaving for greener pastures?

Four biggest clickbait programs available and the widely rumored leader. Grape job. Editor probably asked why Notre Dame wasn't in there.

"I've never heard of this TCU thing? Drop them for Notre Dame! People love the Irish!"

Reminds me of all the hype regarding Paige refusing to go to Dallas or skip the draft altogether despite zero credible sources

Yes - and no. Gottlieb's theory of game plan was, and I quote, "let JuJu be Juju." That would not have flown with Tara at Stanford, Geno at UConn, or Dawn at SCAR. You earn your playing time at those schools, or you transfer (see Betts, Lauren; Rivers, Saniya; and half of UConn's late 2010s classes).

I personally thought Iriafen regressed this season as she stagnated offensively and did not get appreciably better on defense. . . .
I was thinking something along the same lines. Maybe Howell has pro aspirations and doesn't think Gottlieb is the right coach to develop her for the next three years. Off the top of my head, the only player I can think of that Gottlieb sent to the W for any significant career is Clarendon.

Howell's a big guard who shoots well. If she gets a little stronger and develops a few more offensive and defensive skills, she certainly could have a shot at a pro career.

I was just joking about Hildalgo to mess with ND fans. Had no idea what I was wading into at the time til I saw the Notre Dame program thread.

But if Hidalgo did leave (I DO NOT THINK THIS IT LIKELY NOR HAVE I HEARD ANY RUMORS), I would love to have her. Koval is the ND transfer we need. Assuming Raven is back, we don't need OM and she wouldn't want us.
Why? It doesn’t raise a red flag that EVERYBODY else on her team is leaving? Don’t you know how particular Dawn is that she brings in? Read the room.

Not to mention being a pretty big roadblock to PT for incoming freshman Kellis Fisher.
I don't think Miles would come to UConn but UConn was one of her finalists and she is from New Jersey. She also knows she would have a great chance at a Final Four. I am less concerned about Kelis Fisher and more concerned about KK Arnold as this would be the second year in a row a transfer was brought in. Kelis for as good as she MIGHT be, was only ranked #27 and if the #7 player can't get playing time, how is the #27 player going to get it? To me, we still need an experienced PG to transfer in behind KK to give us more depth.

I can’t imagine flying from Stanford to Miami to play a basketball game and then the next week flying to Clemson, or UCLA to Boston College, etc. it’s got to be A LOT.
In their case Rutgers, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, etc. Technically, UCLA flies out east, but not to Boston.

I believe they alternate travel weekends. Not that that's a lot better. Tho teens are a lot more oblivious to things.
I think they also have one 3-game road-trip, so it ended up as 4 trips to the midwest/east.
I'm guessing they'll also play more local non-conference games in anticipation of travel later in the year. For one, they can now play their old PAC rivals for quality-non-conf games that aren't too far.

I’m sure it’s a lot of travel but these teams fly charter and it’s downright luxurious compared to the cattle cars I mean commercial flights most of us commoners are used to.

I figured it was a Tenn player, but in the future helpful to list the school. :)
Yes it's not a big surprise. She didn't get a lot of playing time.

Even if the article was semi-true, Miles wouldn't be a good fit here, given her "hero ball" mentality that developed at the end of the season. Geno would not put up with Miles driving the lane on a 6'2 shot blocking big instead of kicking the ball out. Or trying for flashy, highlight layups when the team is down 4 in the last quarter.

Unless he can knock that mentality out of her, she would not fit in here as a Paige replacement per se.
I agree. Tremendous talent, I never liked her attitude. Chemistry??

Transfer from Auburn. She arrived from China for the second half oof the season, and by the end, she was playing very well.

That's quite a mix of schools to choose from. Assuming there's a shorter list that they're working with if the goal is to make a decision in 2 weeks.

I wonder if Baylor would be the leader in the clubhouse. Johnnie Harris has landed there as assistant head coach. Yuting faced some big challenges. Her English is not very good, and they were at times communicating with her on the sidelines via Google translate and pantomime.

Interesting point. Forgot about that.

Sounds to me that someone just "baited the hook" again on the clickbait machine.
Are you going to bite? I didn't. Like the old commercial: "bet you
can just eat/click one"!!!
