Had some good offers coming out of high school last year, including Vandy. She's an Indiana girl. I wonder if the recent defections for the Hoosiers could create a space for her. Vandy has a crowded roster at the one-two positions next year, so I would be surprised to see the coaches pursue her.

Well, I can because I spend a lot of time on The Bench and here pondering just that ;)

  • Yes, ND is losing: Sonia Citron, Olivia Miles (virtually certain), Maddy Westbeld, Liza Karlen and Liatu King.
  • Things to contemplate: the physical state of Leah Macy's leg injury and Emma Risch's hip.
If Kylee Watson is rehabbing well from her ACL a year ago and if she's coming back.
- The good news is KK Bransford is active and practicing with the team, so she'll be back.

So, factor all that in with Kate Koval, Hannah Hidalgo and Cass Prosper. Me thinks they should:
  • look another Liatu King-type of player to be athletic up front;
  • get another long-range shooter
  • see how Macy is doing and possibly look at a forward with range.
  • Lastly, is there a pass-first PG who can spell Ms. Hidalgo from ball-handling when Coach Ivey needs her to score, score, score?

I have ideas, but want to see who still comes out and if there are any answers. to those questions.
Excellent analysis. I think Soni Maddy and Liatu will be very difficult to replace. I wouldn’t worry about the PG slot. Hannah has already shown she can handle that just fine. In fact she may be even better next season.

This may not have been Maddy’s best season but she’s been a “franchise player” for so long. That’s hard to find at any time. She will be missed. Soni is a sort of four-leaf clover at 6’1” with quick feet, excellent moves in the lane and a reliable jump shot. Kids like that don’t grow on trees. And Liatu was an incredible find — my hat’s off to Niele on that one. She saw what others didn’t.

I haven’t seen enough of Macy to know where she might fit in. She seems a bit slower than Soni and smaller than Maddy. And I’m not confident in Koval’s development this season. Watching some of her high school games I expected her to be quicker and to have a reliable elbow jumper. But that seems not to have worked out at D1 level yet. But her shot blocking and rebounding is fine. Will she be able to play next to Kylee? If so, that could be formidable.

All in all, I think next season looks promising just because of Hannah. I suspect it won’t be hard for Niele to build a team just around her.

I can see SEC here, especially LSU or Ole Miss. Kentucky is also a possibility (would be a "splashy" transfer to keep their "momentum" going).

Could also see her go to the Big 12 (e.g., TCU (aka Transfer U), Baylor). I can't see her going to another B1G team or going to the ACC (unless Jeff Walz wants to take her on for a year).
I think LSU is an interesting call, as is Louisville. McMahon has a lot of upside, and both Kim and Jeff have a lot of experience getting the best out of players with big personalities. I'll be interested to see where she lands.

LSU does not need Cotie, literally the last thing they need.. I think they go mostly for bigs, maybe a PG. Cotie would not address anything they could possibly need for next season at the wing and she is even smaller than morrow. Ole Miss definitely going to need more firepower with what they lose.

Word on the street (not sure how true) is Sellers for Washington may be hitting the portal and GT just finished some exit interviews so we could be in for a treat potentially

Think McGuff and Walz are good friends, so possibly another "if you didnt like playing for him, you're probably not a fit here."

Breya is not a top tier post player in my view.
She has the potential to be. Arizona spent 2 years teaching her a wicked hook? jump hook? I don't know what to call it. Her ability to hit the basket from virtually anywhere deep in the paint I haven't seen from anyone except the unquestioned top tiers - Prince, Crooks, etc. But is completely different from them in style.

The problem is the fouls. Contrary to another posters snark, effort was certainly made to get her to stop fouling. As I said once before, she tended to reach in when not under the basket, and to try to block the "unblockable" under the basket. Isis Beh was a guest at Adia's radio show and talked about trying to mentor Breya and explain that sometimes you just have to let a score happen against you, but admitted Breya was just instinctive to try to block shocks.

Another coach "might" have more success in the foul issue. If they do, then I am positive that Breya will be another poster child of good players that played at Arizona and went on to star elsewhere. Grrrrrrrr.

Misread this as McGraw and Walz and got very confused as I remembered their spat about Asia Durr/Arike for ACC POY and a lot of shade thrown circa 2018/2019

That's what I asked about either in this or another thread. She didn't participate in the 2019-20 season so she shouldn't be eligible for the extra covid year. I know Kennedy Brown from Oregon St./Duke was denied another year of eligibility for that reason. Prince has played 4 seasons and sat out 3 other seasons. It's unfathomable that she thinks she should get another year, or that there's any way the NCAA would capitulate.
If Prince gets another year, I'd imagine some grandmas will be lacing em back up and tube socks will reappear on shelves near you.:D

Not sure what the dig on McMahon is about. She gives 200%. I can't think of too many teams who could not use a player of this caliber. What happened to...she plays with joy? lol Some of these players I never or barely ever heard of. I hope they have a plan B. Who tracks players who entered the portal and subsequently face-planted into oblivion?

Never heard that phrase used with McMahon. Have heard it when Lobo described Hildago's passion in response to how people thought Hildalgo should tone it down. Does McMahon play with joy? Yes, but it's a different kind of energy from what I've watched over the years. At the same time, she didn't endear herself with her recent hand gesture situation.

I think the negative tone towards McMahon is that she's not everyone's cup of tea because of how she carries herself. Is it fair? No, but we see this all the time in posts about certain players, coaches and teams on this board. I chalk it up to internal bias and human nature because we're all vulnerable in this area.

I was being sarcastic with my joy comment. And you're right, it certainly is bias when the same or similar behaviors inherit polar opposite characterizations. Personally, I could do without 99.9% of the gestures, but chalk it up to competitive expression. Besides, I'm certain the verbal exchanges are much worse out there on the court. My redline is when it becomes offensive, personal or generally unsportsmanlike...and more importantly, habitual. In her case, and in my opinion her talent far exceeds any risk a coach would inherit by adding her to a roster. It's not like she's Angel Reese (ducking). lol

She gave the Maryland the 1 finger salute, which the tv people caught. Def offensive

"One of the better freshman" in the country. And McMiller was highly touted coming out of the Life Center Academy in Burlington (south) Jersey. In fact, she was a Jordan All-American and the first high school athlete to ever sign a Name, Image and Likeness contract with the Jordan Brand,

And, judging by her year, McMiller had a very turbulent year. When she was on the court, she led the team in scoring (18.7 ppg) and assists, but the rub was that she missed 10 games -- a few of which were due to suspension and a lot due to ???. It was clear this relationship was not going well and she was going to follow Kaylen Smikle -- another talented hooper who didn't seem to get along with/like Rutgers and/or Coach Coquese Washington; and/or is looking for something else.

She's from Silver Spring, Maryland, so could she follow Smikle and head to Maryland? Shyanne Sellers is off to the WNBA and PG Sarah Te-Biasul is a grad student, so there are places in the backcourt.

Stay tuned....

Huh?
She was named to the all-freshman team and selected as the ACC Sixth Player of the Year
Pretty successful first year for the 5'9" scorer from Mt. Vernon, NY. And they made the NCAAs....

Apparently, not good enough. Could it be she wants to come closer to NYC? More NIL opportunities?
Or the fact that Kara Dunn, Tonie Morgan and fellow frosh Chit-Chat Morgan are still on the team (at least for now)? Does she want the rock more?

Sometimes, I get perplexier and perplexier.....

Yeah, this is a head scratcher to me as well. Thought last year's portal was a hot mess of "huh?" with who entered. The 2024 - 2025 season decided to go into "hold my beer" mode.

Scary part is that that this only the beginning and there are almost 900 players in the portal. Things will likely get crazier as more teams are eliminated this weekend.

Maybe we should have an "All-Huh" team for entries that make one shake your head, hold your beer, wonder if you're living on the same planet and are, well, huh? ;)
