2025 NBA Draft Thread

Have to think the Spurs are going to be in the trade market in some form. Let’s just hope it doesn’t impact Steph.
I agree they might me in the trade market. They need a shooter on the wing and probably a backup for Wemby. Now that I think about it, I don’t think they’ll trade down to #3. The 76ers are another team where Ace Bailey might be as good of a fit than Dylan Harper, despite Harper being a better prospect.

With the roster the Spurs have theyll be able to add quality pieces through free agency.

Kind of hate the Spurs at 2. It’ll be hard not to take Dylan Harper just because of the talent and potential, but the team already has Fox and Castle

They could reach and go for Ace Bailey, but it seems unlikely that anyone would pass on Harper with #2

If they’re sold on Castle (which they should be), maybe they trade down to later in the lottery + a player?

I wonder if they’d package the #2 pick for Cam Johnson and some other Nets first round picks. The Nets might also be willing to deal a big, and the Spurs need a backup. They could get another shooter at #14 (McNeeley?) and maybe a backup big with a later pick. The Spurs at #2 is just about the most fascinating possibility.

My guess is #2 is going to end up in Milwaukee for Giannis

Vassell, Castle, and salary filler with #2 and some of their future 1sts is what I've seen floated
I don’t think they’d give up Vassell, Castle, and Harper. They’d have a significant hole in the backcourt. A trade seems likely the more I think about it, and they could top most offers for Giannis if they wanted to, unless Houston would part Amen and others.

Wemby is their centerpiece, and they are in build now mode. Guys like Wemby may not have a long peak. I think anything would be on the table to get a guy like Giannis.

AD essentially refused to play the 5, right? I’m not sure Flagg is a 3, more of a combo forward.

They dont need Giannis. All their best guys are super young. Ages 19, 20, 21 and 27. Giannis is on the down slope and gonna get in the way of Wemby. And Giannis is gonna cost 60 mil a year. Better to build a deep young team. What do the Lakers, Phili, Clippers, Phoenix, and Milwaukee all have in common, aging superstars and MVPs who are not in the playoffs anymore.

To be clear, the Bucks would absolutely demand Harper, Castle, and Vassell. It would be on the table. I just think the Spurs would fight hard to keep one of the three if they could.

I don't think I would do it if Castle has to be a part of it but Milwaukee will most likely demand Castle.

I think that highly of what Castle will be.

Giannis is an MVP, NBA champ and a top 5 NBA player.

The NBA is built around having 2 foundational stars surrounded by great role players.

Steph still cannot shoot a 3 ball. He shot 28%. Up until he shows he can at a 35% clip, he’s capped on today’s NBA potential. I love his game too, but you roll the dice with an established star to put around a generational talent like Wemby.

I'm aware of who Giannis is.

I'd definitely be hesitant to do it, I think Castle is a star. Guess it depends how far they think a Fox, Giannis, Wemby core can take them. But it definitely feels a little rushed, they have plenty of time to win with Wemby

They're a couple of the right veterans away from being awesome with a core of Wemby, Castle, and Fox who fit together position/play style wise and age wise. Playoff team next season and then competing for championships. I wouldn't break that up for twin towers clogging the floor.

Yeah I personally would just take Ace Bailey at 2 and roll with Fox, Castle, Vassell, Bailey, Wemby next year. That's a playoff team IMO, and you could even bring in a star around that core. Keldon Johnson, Harrison Barnes, Jeremy Sochan gets you to $43.6M in a trade, and they're under the cap so likely wouldn't even need to package all of them anyway

I mean if you have the opportunity to get a Giannis in his prime you do it.

That would be the best core in the league by a mile, granted Wemby and Fox need to recover well from their respective injuries.

Mavs get the top pick, I'm ready to believe any and every conspiracy theory now

I’m with ya - I wasn’t all in, but this is the proverbial straw that broke my back. They didn’t even try to hide it.

Dont do it Spurs. Spurs need shooters to space the floor for Wemby. Giannis cant shoot. Spurs will lose all flexability when you start paying Giannis 75 Mill a year. All the best teams have one big star and several supporting stars. Denver, Celtics, OKC, Minnesota.

At this point nobody is completely sure that Wemby will not have ongoing issues - a guy like that with a freak body size is going to have ongoing medical issues. I'm not sure if you can build your team around so many questions. Giannis also has his share of ongoing injuries. Most all bigs who are subject to knee, foot, back issues are the norm and that's what makes guys like Wilt, Russell, Duncan so special.
IF and that is a huge IF, Dallas passes on Flagg and he slips to SA - I feel a great get to that line-up IF Wemby returns healthy. Adds the scoring skills/handle that Spurs need from the wings.
I agree that Steph needs to work on his 3pt shooting and I am sure he will during this off season. It would be strange to see them trade their just named ROY away but it's a business and anything can happen

Not a huge IF - headline will be "Dallas captures the Flagg."

I'm more concerned that they now predict Liam falling to Charlotte.

Wemby is ready now, if you have a chance to get giannis for castle, harper, filler and future picks, you do it before milwaukee changes their mind. it's not like we can't root for castle in milwaukee

I don't think Giannis is the fit in San Antonio. I do think they'd consider moving the #2 pick. Lots of teams are getting blown up this off season, including Boston. There should be a lot of trade activity, not just for Giannis. Think outside the box, including multi-team trades.

Flagg is not "slipping".

Now - could the spurs offer a treasure chest to move up and pick Flagg? It'd have to include Castle, who apparently is untouchable according to this board
