2025 MLB Playoffs Thread

I would rather eliminate the divisions and the byes and make everyone play a 1-1-1 series. 1 vs 6, 2 vs 5 3 vs 4
Ok, done. 1st round is changed to a 1-1-1 series like you laid out. How are you setting up the 2nd round?

I was burned as a fan a few times by 1 game WC playoff…but I felt like 3 games is too much.

Seeing it go 3 straight days with no travel does make it streamlined. I worry about starting pitching importance continuing to be minimized.

I know I’m excited to see Phillies dodgers even though I hate them both.

Damn. Still think this model sucks

Nonsense. One of the division winners is playing in it and often the wild card teams have the same or better records than the division winners. Three at home is ridiculous given how close most of these teams are to each other record wise.

So, to the point above, you're going to potentially go Tampa-Seattle-Tampa, or Boston-Los Angeles-Boston.

If they care about fairness, I suppose so. But even 2-1 is better than this. The gaps between most of these team (all of them in the AL) don't warrant any significant homefield advantage.

I just can't see how this would be fair if you altered the WC round. For example, let's use Boston. This is more fair?

Assume the last 3 games of the regular season:
@ Tampa, @ Tampa, @ Tampa
WC Round:
@ Seattle
Boston
@ Seattle
ALCS:
@ LAA
@ LAA
Boston
Boston
Boston
@ LAA
@ LAA

I know everyone on this thread watches baseball. It's hard for me to hear arguments about baseball losing ground. The last two yanks Sox games have been better than any nba playoff, nfl playoff, college playoff I've seen in a decade.
And that's just a wild card.
The pitch clock has really helped stop these non-West Coast games from ending at 1 am.

The higher seed gets all games at home, which is madness. In my opinion, the higher seed should get the first two games at home, and if it goes to a third game, then the lower seed should host. If the higher seed can’t take care of business in those two games, then they don’t deserve another break with another home game. Manfred and Goodell are doing their darndest to outdo each other with idiotic rule changes.
I think it's absolutely ridiculous. it's a wild card series to get into the main bracket. make no sense.

I think it's smart. Get rid of travel days and move the playoffs along faster. An extra home field advantage for the top team is good - it makes the regular season more meaningful.
you're telling me it's a big deal to travel from NY to Boston. Okay bucko

It’s right up there with putting a ghost runner at second in extra innings during the regular season except worse because it’s the postseason.

That's not even in the same ball park as the ghost runner. You have extra playoff teams because the owners cried their way in. Your one of the extras no one wants to hear your crying. Win more games and you don't have to worry about going on the road.

Expanded playoffs with extra playoff teams should be at a disadvantage, just like extra teams in the ncaa tournament.

MLB has the lowest % of teams making the playoffs of any North American pro sports league. Probably because the season runs too late. They aren’t like the play in teams. They are, at worst, like the #2 seeds.

I don't know if you're a Yankee fan or Bosox fan, but either way, you confirm the rest of the country's feeling that you don't believe the world exists outside your city limits.

I hope Milwaukee wins the whole thing. Even though they're a rival, I love the way the play. One of the most fundamentally sound teams in recent memory. Always putting pressure on the opponent with baserunning, situational hitting, plate discipline and defense with a good enough pitching staff to keep them in games. It seems an easy model to copy if your organization has the discipline to do so.

And also a tough model to actually win with in the postseason, which is why you usually see them with disappointing early exits

This version isn't the version of the last decade. The previous teams didn't play as fundamentally sound as this. I don't know how much is Murphy's managing, but he's definitely made a difference. It's also not like the Moneyball A's. By fWAR, they're 6th in both pitching and batting. Only LAD is better in both.

We'll see, I think the Padres or Cubs both beat the Brewers next round in 4 games. Relying on putting together 3-4 hits to score runs is not an effective strategy in the postseason against elite pitching

Brewers Cubs is gonna be crazy.

Yankees pitcher is dealing.
Sox team is young, raw and mistake prone. Not ready. So many mistakes between yesterday and today. Bellinger leadoff pop up double kills them today. LF dropping a Judge fly ball and bad base running yesterday.
