2025 MLB Playoffs Thread

So, to the point above, you're going to potentially go Tampa-Seattle-Tampa, or Boston-Los Angeles-Boston.
If they care about fairness, I suppose so. But even 2-1 is better than this. The gaps between most of these team (all of them in the AL) don't warrant any significant homefield advantage.

I guess the regular season matters more. Your the extra wild card team in, your lucky your even in at all, so I don't wanna hear your crying. Theres importance on getting the top WC spot now you get rewarded with a home series.

I just can't see how this would be fair if you altered the WC round. For example, let's use Boston. This is more fair?

Assume the last 3 games of the regular season:
@ Tampa, @ Tampa, @ Tampa
WC Round:
@ Seattle
Boston
@ Seattle
ALCS:
@ LAA
@ LAA
Boston
Boston
Boston
@ LAA
@ LAA

I know everyone on this thread watches baseball. It's hard for me to hear arguments about baseball losing ground. The last two yanks Sox games have been better than any nba playoff, nfl playoff, college playoff I've seen in a decade.
And that's just a wild card.

The pitch clock has really helped stop these non-West Coast games from ending at 1 am.

The higher seed gets all games at home, which is madness. In my opinion, the higher seed should get the first two games at home, and if it goes to a third game, then the lower seed should host. If the higher seed can’t take care of business in those two games, then they don’t deserve another break with another home game. Manfred and Goodell are doing their darndest to outdo each other with idiotic rule changes.
I think it's absolutely ridiculous. it's a wild card series to get into the main bracket. make no sense.

I think it's smart. Get rid of travel days and move the playoffs along faster. An extra home field advantage for the top team is good - it makes the regular season more meaningful.
you're telling me it's a big deal to travel from NY to Boston. Okay bucko

It’s right up there with putting a ghost runner at second in extra innings during the regular season except worse because it’s the postseason.

That's not even in the same ball park as the ghost runner. You have extra playoff teams because the owners cried their way in. Your one of the extras no one wants to hear your crying. Win more games and you don't have to worry about going on the road.

Expanded playoffs with extra playoff teams should be at a disadvantage, just like extra teams in the ncaa tournament.

MLB has the lowest % of teams making the playoffs of any North American pro sports league. Probably because the season runs too late. They aren’t like the play in teams. They are, at worst, like the #2 seeds.

I don't know if you're a Yankee fan or Bosox fan, but either way, you confirm the rest of the country's feeling that you don't believe the world exists outside your city limits.

I hope Milwaukee wins the whole thing. Even though they're a rival, I love the way the play. One of the most fundamentally sound teams in recent memory. Always putting pressure on the opponent with baserunning, situational hitting, plate discipline and defense with a good enough pitching staff to keep them in games. It seems an easy model to copy if your organization has the discipline to do so.

And also a tough model to actually win with in the postseason, which is why you usually see them with disappointing early exits

This version isn't the version of the last decade. The previous teams didn't play as fundamentally sound as this. I don't know how much is Murphy's managing, but he's definitely made a difference. It's also not like the Moneyball A's. By fWAR, they're 6th in both pitching and batting. Only LAD is better in both.

We'll see, I think the Padres or Cubs both beat the Brewers next round in 4 games. Relying on putting together 3-4 hits to score runs is not an effective strategy in the postseason against elite pitching

Brewers Cubs is gonna be crazy.

The ghost runner thing is infuriating to me.

Yankees pitcher is dealing.
Sox team is young, raw and mistake prone. Not ready. So many mistakes between yesterday and today. Bellinger leadoff pop up double kills them today. LF dropping a Judge fly ball and bad base running yesterday.

They should be reseeding the playoffs anyway. Once you hit the playoffs it should be by record only. You have 162 chances to win the most games possible. Reward the teams that win the most of them

8 innings, 107 pitches, 12 K’s, throw 100 effortlessly.
Fried, Cole, Rodon, Schlittler, Gil are the starters
If they get a great pen over the winter which they likely will then watch out next year.
That's their weakness and Weaver has taken a few steps back from last year. Having said that, Bednar was a good pick up from a mid season trade and Cruz came through in a big spot in game 2.

On to Toronto where the Yankees got swept in a 4-game series before the ASG and lost 2 out 3 after the ASG break meaning they only have 1 out of 7. Hopefully they can reverse those results in this series.

Agree, but so far their big power bats have mostly not showed up yet and they could be due.

How on earth did he last until the 7th round??? Even if he was totally raw, with that velocity you figure someone would take a shot they could teach him control. What a steal.

Yes, and Toronto, Boston and NY played in a tougher division by far than any of the other teams. They all probably win any other AL division. The run differential stats are wild. NY was #1, Boston #2 in the AL. Cleveland was negative.

Yeah it's crazy that the the toughest division in the league has to go through itself to get to the ALCS. Having every team in the same side of the bracket is dumb.

He was only throwing 89-90 in college. Supposedly he only started hitting 100 this year.

Certainly has the frame to support it. The size of pitchers these days is mind blowing - a lot of these guys are now rolling out there between 240-260. Rodon, Crochet, Yanks closer. These guys look like linebackers.

Thing about 100mp is that it's not that unique anymore - it used to be when the average of most pitchers was topping out in the low 90's. Hitters are calibrated. Movement, secondary pitch quality & command, overall command are what separates.
