2025 MLB Playoffs Thread

Are all three wild card games (Boston vs NY) in NY? I thought they alternated home and away.
The higher seed gets all games at home, which is madness. In my opinion, the higher seed should get the first two games at home, and if it goes to a third game, then the lower seed should host. If the higher seed can’t take care of business in those two games, then they don’t deserve another break with another home game. Manfred and Goodell are doing their darndest to outdo each other with idiotic rule changes.

The least surprising thing in the world is seeing them load the bases, then feebly duck out. Once Stanton K'd, I knew there was zero chance they'd put a run across.

Lots of K’s and holes in a lineup with very good starting pitching. Add a crappy bullpen and no one is surprised. The Yankees beat up crappy teams (unlike the Mets) and fail against good pitching.

I disagree. If you look at the Reds, they were 40-40 in the last 80 games. They don't have a hitter over .270, a hitter with more than 22 HRs or 86 RBI. They were 26-26 in their division and lost their last game, only getting in because the Mets gagged. They should have to win 2 of 3 on the road to advance.

This gives a MASSIVE advantage to the lower seeded team. All you have to do to get a home elimination game is steal 1 game on the road

That’s ALL you have to do? What’s so special about this round? Hell why not have the higher seed gets all every home game in every round them while we are at it?

You can find hot and cold stretches for any team throughout a season. I ask again what’s so special about this round? Then why not have the higher seed get every home game in later series? If the argument is that unworthy teams are making the playoffs, then maybe have fewer teams make it? You’re either a playoff team or you aren’t.

Flip it - first game away, last two at home. You can win series in front of home fans.

This part of baseball I honestly find wild - you have a team with the best record in the AL having to win a 3 game series against a team with one dominant starter. Just doesn't make sense after slogging through 162 games. MLB needs to find some way of matching up a post season that plays with how the regular season plays.

Just telling you why it won't happen, it's the same complaint made about the 2-3-2 format and why the NBA changed it. It gives a big advantage to lower seeded teams

Cold "Stretch"? They were a .500 team the second half of the season. Their best month of the entire season was 15-11. Then 14-11 and then 14-13. They never had a single hot stretch.

I get it from a logistical point of view.

The playoffs are really long as it is. You want to finish within a month. If you're adding a best-of-3, you want to do it in as short a time as possible, which means no rest/travel days, which means all at one site.

From a fairness point of view, I agree, every playoff team should get a chance to host at least one game.

The NBA (after the play in round) has 8 teams make the playoffs in each conference. Each team, no matter the seed, has the opportunity to play at least one home game. Sorry but you won’t convince me that this is asinine.

It doesn’t matter though. The NBA has 8 teams in each conference playing after the play in round. Every team, regardless of seeding, has the opportunity to play at least one home game. You won’t convince me that this is stupid, sorry.

What you're missing is that this wild card series is the equivalent of the play in round. Where each team does not get a home game

And you won't convince me they deserve a home game.

The 3 home game potential for the higher seeded team does not sit well with me. I think 2 and 1 makes better sense. Or just go back to the old 1 game playoff at the higher seeds location.
problem is the travel...you want to be playing baseball in Dec? NY-Bos is easy..what happens when it's Tampa-Seattle?

It’s a 6 1/2 nonstop flight.

Sorry I thought you were replying to my day 1 day/night double header, day 2 travel day, game 3 if needed. My bad

Each teams fans deserve at least one home game. Period. Game 1 at lower seed, game 2 at higher seed (as well as game 3). Simple and fair. And if folks are "worried" about the season running late, shorten the regular season by a week (BTW, how come they play at end of March?).

Nonsense. One of the division winners is playing in it and often the wild card teams have the same or better records than the division winners. Three at home is ridiculous given how close most of these teams are to each other record wise.

I would rather eliminate the divisions and the byes and make everyone play a 1-1-1 series. 1 vs 6, 2 vs 5 3 vs 4
