For multiple reasons, I mess with IMG. Otherwise I’m not a fan of the big bball factories, but I get the value.

The spread wasn’t too bad this year, multiple “normal” schools but handful of factories too, as @BigErnMcCracken said.

I think Rabbe's HS, Bullis, is a "real" school in that it's not just purely a school focused on churning out college athlete prospects. Though not like Bullis doesn't churn out elite athletes too (Quincy Wilson, the 16-year old that made the summer Olympic team, attends Bullis).

It's one of the more well-known prep schools in the DC area. It's definitely a "real school."

The thing I don't like is how so few basketball prospects go to public school anymore. I always loved the public school game, especially the city game. Watching city rivals with high major kids go at it was always awesome, there's really no atmosphere like it.

Now it's private schools and these basketball academies where the crowds don't matter.

There's only like 5 kids on those rosters who play public school.

Wow, I'm surprised. Adams and Reibe were borderline guys and we've never had those kind of prospects make the game. Not that they didn't deserve to make the game but I think the UConn name is now carrying a lot of weight.
Does this make it the single best recruiting class in UConn history?

Based on ratings/paper, I'd say so. You do have a class that included Gordon/Emeka, who weren't burger boys but top 5 draft picks.

The class that always stands out in my mind was the JC grab back in the 90s. That was a big one as it was one of JC's first truly national classes. Three of those guys were from the west coast.

Kevin Ollie
Brian Fair
Donny Marshall
Donyell Marshall
Boo Willngham

Also a class that included:

Charlie V
Marcus Williams
Josh Boone

Probably could have had a 4th if we wanted. This kid is going to be interesting to watch play out.

You have to be an American or Canadian to make this team, otherwise the Furfinator would surely be on it.

Yeah on paper this is #1. Closest class is the 2011 class with Drummond, Daniels, and Boatright.

That class was PROBABLY better overall. Drummond was top 2 in the class and I believe Daniels was borderline top-10.

Damnit, now I'm gonna have to buy tons of the Topps Chrome McD's All-American card set next year.

It’s a good argument. Daniels was 16 on 247. Boatright 49.

The top guys in that class are better than anyone in the current class ranking wise. Boatright did not play like the 49th ranked player when he arrived too lol

I couldn't agree more. Loved the CHSAA and PSAL battles. Look at where All-Americans used to go!

Ah yes, great call. Hazleton got a little bump to be in the game too because he was the local kid.
Yeah multiple burger boys and The forgotten Caron. Maybe we repeat history and Furphy is the best of the bunch

I have a personal distaste for IMG. Alex Karaban attended the New Hampton School—my alma mater, a real, traditional New England prep school founded in 1821, that also happens to be a pretty big basketball school—for two years. He then transferred to IMG Academy for his “senior” year of high school. But, he reclassified his graduation and enrolled at UConn for the spring semester. I do not believe Alex ever wore a uniform for IMG, and, yet, in the press media, IMG is listed as his high school, as if they had anything to do with his development.

During the Butler game the announcers mentioned that Karaban and Butler's Telfort played together at NHS where they won a NEPSAC championship. Other notable NHS alumni include Rashad McCants, Lawrence Moten, Darius Songaila. (As a side note, Rashad McCants may not have had to do any college classwork at UNC, but I can guarantee he put in the study time at NHS.) Current D1 coaches who attended NHS include Ed Cooley (Georgetown) and Wes Miller (Cinncinati).

Interesting facts about UConn and McDonald’s all Americans. Did you guys know of the 4 national champions since 1978 to not feature at least one McDonald’s all American on their roster 2 of those 4 titles belong to UConn. The 2014(Hungry Huskies) and the 2023 (return to glory) champs did not have a McDonald’s all American.

Technically the 2013-2014 team had one on their roster. But he was sitting on the bench in street clothes since he was a transfer and couldn't play. :)

Crazy stat that only 4 NCs in 46 year didn’t have a HS AA. If ever support that high end talent wins titles. Also supports the argument that you can develop 3-4 stars all you want, but they rarely win the big one.

Auburn has 2.

Will be curious if the portal changes anything.

Doesn’t bode well for the BE sans UConn.

Did you know there were no McDonald's All Americans in the 2023 Final Four for the first time since the NCAA began seeding the tournament in 1979?

Boat one of my all time favorites. He and Bazz were quite a tandem. "In your grill'
