Many schools now have 7 or 5 week mini-semester within the 15 week semester. I wonder if this ultimately creates a loophole that allows students to transfer into a school mid-march (for the second 7 week mini-semester) while also pushing the transfer portal back to a more reasonable timeframe. The only way to control when the portal opens is to have a collective bargaining agreement with the players. Otherwise NCAA will lose the case due to Antitrust reasons. The split of revenue sharing next year will be interesting. Football drives most of the revenue base for the P4 schools but the federal government has declared that revenue sharing needs to be split equitably between men and women sports due to Title IX.
It puts more pressure on recruiting a good QB without going to the portal. Of course they will probably leave after one good season. To get a good QB in the new system you need to spend NIL. You are not getting a good QB without spending at least $250k. For UConn to become a top G5 or low P4 school need to get a good QB.
I think UConn has a better chance getting a good QB through portal than recruiting high school kid. QBs usually need at least 1 year at the college level. To get a kid out of high school that is ready for college would be a 5 star kid that would cost way more than $250k. Look at some of the 5 star QBs coming out of high school are getting $1 million plus.It puts more pressure on recruiting a good QB without going to the portal. Well then Mora must have a lot of confidence in Welliver being able to start next year. Zero confidence in Evers.Unless a QB decides to enter the portal, or coach asks one to go, I don't see us getting a QB out of the portal. We'll have Evers, McDonald, Welliver, and K2 next year. K2 replaces Fagnano. Also have 2 walk ons. 6 seems pretty standard for a QB room.
It feels like the way the qb portal is going…all we can get is JF or NE types No offense to JF and NE…but they are ok at best. Anyone above their level will get P4 dollars. The good news on NE is that he still has time to develop..and so far hasn’t entered the portal again.IMO UConn should be looking at FCS for competent Joe Fagnano types or a tick above his talent level. Proven production over potential.
You can win with Fagnano level talent and competent running game and receivers. The MAC has talented passers all over the place. Are they 5 stars? No I don't think it is so much about getting lucky as finding guys who can play at the MAC level. I put Fagnano in that group. That is not or should not be an impossible level to attain. For whatever reason every coach at UConn has found that to be a high bar.It feels like the way the qb portal is going…all we can get is JF or NE types No offense to JF and NE…but they are ok at best. That’s why I was saying for UConn to get an average to above average QB, they will probably have to get lucky on a 2 star or 3 star during recruiting. Or some donor is feeling magnimous and wants to support bringing home a local kid who has interest. A Van Dyke type.
Overall..I think the portal will be good for UConn..but the toughest position will be qb…which makes sense since its the most important position and toughest to predict.

And that's why I'm really looking forward to what Welliver will look like next year after having spent this year with the play book and getting stronger...CW was the 48th rated freshman QB according to Phil Steele. That's P4 level.
Chandler Whitmer ran out of eligibility years agoCW was the 48th rated freshman QB according to Phil Steele. That's P4 level.
I think the concensus was that he was 3 star..which is great. My point was it will probably be easier to find a good HS QB than a transfer portal QB.CW was the 48th rated freshman QB according to Phil Steele. That's P4 level.
I think you can win like we did this year…but I think you need better QB talent to beat P4s.You can win with Fagnano level talent and competent running game and receivers. We’re losing 1 of those that you mentioned. Mora is bringing in a portal QB.Unless a QB decides to enter the portal, or coach asks one to go, I don't see us getting a QB out of the portal. Does the source say who? Don't speculate here of course. Just curious if the source knows who is going and who is coming. We’re losing 1 of those that you mentioned. Mora is bringing in a portal QB.
I would guess we will hear within a day or two after the game tomorrow.Does the source say who? Don't speculate here of course. Just curious if the source knows who is going and who is coming.
Or is this wishful thinking and not sourced?
It’s sourced and they did say who was leaving but not who we’re after.Does the source say who? Don't speculate here of course. Just curious if the source knows who is going and who is coming.

It would have to be the same transfer rule for players and ordinary students. Many schools now have 7 or 5 week mini-semester within the 15 week semester. I wonder if this ultimately creates a loophole that allows students to transfer into a school mid-march (for the second 7 week mini-semester) while also pushing the transfer portal back to a more reasonable timeframe.
But right. Right now, the academic calendar and the football calendar do not play nicely.
Is the QB who is leaving being asked to leave?I would guess we will hear within a day or two after the game tomorrow.
