2025 Bowl Predictions

I’m not quite that upset but I absolutely get what you mean. Fenway had record attendance last year because UConn fans showed up. During the holidays you can take a day to go to Boston or New York. Getting to Birmingham is not as easy. It is warmer I guess. But it’s Birmingham.

I froze my butt off during the Papa John's Bowl in Birmingham. Nice win over South Carolina though.

Birmingham is starting to get recognized for its food scene.

Y'know, it wasn't that bad in the sun. The SC fans were in the shade. Start of the fourth quarter I thought they all left, turns out they were all on our side of the field in the previously vacant upper deck.

The biggest bowl win in UConn history. My friends said the SC fans were arrogant as hell but apologetic and complementary after the game.
People we know from UF, diehard SEC fans, told us we only beat South Carolina because they weren't up for a game with a school like UConn. I told him if the SEC was so superior it shouldn't take getting up for the game to beat us.

I do not want to play JMU. They are a hot team right now and will be tough to beat. Not a good look if we lose to a G5 school. I would much rather play a down-year P4 team. If we win, gravy! If we lose, ok.
A win against a top-25 caliber team is the only thing missing from our resume this season. Sign me up for JMU. That would put us in the Top 25.

Happened in 2003, 9-3, Independent = No Bowl game. I still think we get in this time but I still get pissed when I think about that 2003 team.
If iirc that team was in transition, similar to Delaware and MO State and ineligible for a bowl game.

My best guess is that when the dust all settles, we end up in one of the SEC bowls (Duke’s or Gasparilla) or the ACC back-fills some of the more “prestigious” SEC bowls and we end up in Pinstripe or Fenway.

Because of our record, our brand, and our story, we will be one of the most attractive teams for an At-Large bid and probably the only team receiving votes in the AP poll that would be available as an At-Large selection.

I travel around those parts and they get hit with early winter stuff sometimes more than we do. No guarantees that’s for sure until you Jacksonville and south.

I think Fenway should be either UConn or BC every year and get a good team up here. Have it earlier v later of course.

There are so many things to parse through here.
-Is your premise right…absolutely
-Does it decrease our chance to win to play against a team that will have fewer players sit out than potentially a P4 might have sit out?
-Is winning against a P4 by itself, even if they are uninterested and have players it out, still worth the same “bump” media wise as beating top 25 small program?
-If so, is it less risk to just play the less attractive P4?
-Will Bell sit out a bowl game and how much does that hurt us against JMU?

That transition year as a full-time D1 team was 2002, not 2003.
No, we were fully eligible for a bowl game and did not get an invite. Next year we were in the Big East, went 7-4 and blew out Toledo in Detroit.
Right, and there were less bowls back then too: 28 bowls for 56 teams. Despite being 9-3, unfortunately there was no spot for UConn. Now we have too many bowls where even teams with losing records can be considered.

Ask any player alive if they want to freeze in a bowl game or go somewhere warm, that was more my first point. Reward them with getting g out of the freezer for a week and hopefully against a team with a football brand.

All good points, and all things out of our control.

I understand that beating the brand of a middling P4 might get more attention, but I personally would like a test of how good we are. I want to earn the 10th win.

JMU will wipe the floor with us. Our defense can’t handle them. In a best case scenario we might score 50, but they’ll score 51. We just don’t have the staff on D to win a game against a good, really well coached team. We need to play a mediocre P4 with a suspect coach or a mediocre G5 with a good coach. JMU is a very good team in all regards…..for now.
Totally agree. Gotta be careful what you wish for. Getting spanked in a bowl that the consensus feels ex post facto that UConn had no business being in will do the program no good at portal time.

After that game, my daughter & I were heading back to our rental car with Derek Chard's family (longsnapper). A bunch of fans clad in 'Bama attire, saw us & screamed nice win Huskies! I responded with "Roll Tide!", then we all headed to our post-game festivities...

Some recent bowl projections from this week:

Boca Raton, vs. Coastal Carolina (USA Today)

Duke’s Mayo, vs. Pitt (Projection Sports)
