2025 Bowl Predictions

After a quick check through standings, it looks like there’s 70+ teams already bowl eligible, with another ~18 or so at 5 wins. There’s 80 spots, so we could see more eligible teams than spots available

So the question is:

Do we think we may be genuinely locked out?
I don't think so. We should be an "at large" for any conferences that are not able to fill their slots.

I am hopeful that ranked teams are playing for something this upcoming week and would beat those that are at 5 wins.

I don't think so. You can't just look at the total number of bowl slots and the total number of bowl eligible teams to determine if a spot is available. For example, the SEC could have 5 or 6 schools in the playoff which means they will not fill all of their bowl slots. Or, the ACC could have up to 12 bowl eligible schools and they have potentially 13 bowl slots if one school makes the CFP.

Sometimes I really hate the way this is all set up. There is no world when this team isn't in a bowl game. 9 wins, exciting football, a QB to receiver combo that is worth watching. There just shouldn't be any doubt about a game somewhere.

Unfortunately it comes with being an independent

The bowl alliances aren’t contracts. There is no way we don’t bowl.

There should be no way a 9-3 team gets locked out but the conferences have their hands in the till.
Happened in 2003, 9-3, Independent = No Bowl game. I still think we get in this time but I still get pissed when I think about that 2003 team.

I can promise you that a Top 25 D2 team would absolutely demolish the Hun School. IMG may be the only program in the country that could compete, but even then I doubt it. The D2 team is all college players, and would have some 22-23 year old full grown men playing. No chance for a HS team. D3 is a wholly different animal, but D2 is pretty legit.
The Hun School would get players hurt against a Grand Valley State. They play legit fast paced football. Prep school is legit though. Went to see Avon Old Farms a few years back against Taft and was impressed by their size and speed but UNH teams from the late 90s early 2000s would kill those kids.

Way less bowls then, no?

As Zoo said, I don't believe the bowls are contractually obligated to take a 6-6 team over us just because they have a conference tie-in. I may be wrong. But I thought the decision was ultimately up to the bowl organizers themselves as to who they actually want to invite to their game. This is why conferences end up "trading" bowls all the time.

So, I do think it's plausible that if there is say one extra team eligible, a 6-6 team is bumped in our favor. We are a bigger brand than a lot of the G6 even if we aren't a "football school." Fenway proved last year bowls will want us. We would likely have to sacrifice a large portion of the bowl payout to make whoever we kicked out whole, though.

From Dom Amore’s Sunday Column in the Courant this morning:

-> Storrs North/Storrs South

College football players, probably most at UConn, would prefer to play a bowl game in warm weather, have more of a “trip” at holiday time. But if I’m UConn, I’d sign for the Boston or New York bowl game anytime it’s realistic.

There were 27,000 at Fenway last December, mostly UConn fans, which is why the Red Sox, or Yankees, could maneuver to get them this year. Great atmosphere they won’t have elsewhere. I’m hearing that both the Fenway and Pinstripe Bowls are in play for the Huskies, where they could play a Big Ten or ACC opponent, or a desirable destination game in Florida, like Tampa or Orlando. The Liberty Bowl in Memphis Jan. 2, vs. Cincinnati, has been projected by some. <-
