To be fair to TDH, I think the "stand" he wants to take is that if you get paid for an entire season you can't keep the money and quit before the entire season is over. That is not something that the courts did or would prohibit, and it's a perfectly reasonable position. Frankly, it is the most rational position.

That having been said, UConn obviously can't do it unilaterally but the NCAA could absolutely say that any payments would be adjusted pro rata for games voluntarily missed.
The issue here is he was being specific to a bowl game which a) is not guaranteed to happen and b) in some cases (FBS playoffs) a school will play two or possibly three bowl games.

An NCAA directive would likely require the bowl game payment to be applied basically as a bonus, beyond the initial revenue share and/or NIL commitment.

This isn't something that couldn't be done but it opens up quite a few possibilities that could make things worse than what we are already seeing.

A yes!. Ever been to Tampa for better part of a week in late Dec. It's a nice reward for the players and coaches for a job well done. And USF would be a very tough opponent, if we think back in the not too distant past.
Wouldn’t that just be a USF home game? I don’t think I’d love it. Wouldn’t mind playing them. Prefer not to play them in Tampa.

Bush's Baked Bean Bowl in Boca? Bah.

C'mon. Imagine getting a 5 gallon Gatorade bucket dump of Bush's Baked Bean after you win the game. Don't they do that with Duke's mayo in the bowl game up in Charlotte. Surely, getting baked beans dumped on you is better than a mayonnaise douching.

The "stand" they took for over 100 years was demolished in court. You remind me of those guys that used to say, "If you leave early for the draft, you should have to pay back your scholarship"!
You don't let the inmates run the asylums. Universities exist to serve as educational institutions, not minor leagues for professional sports. We are talking about fulfilling your responsibility as a member of a team invited to a bowl game is not too much to ask of someone who has received a college scholarship. Maybe the answer for all schools is to just not to offer scholarships. Can't allow players to run college sports.

I would to go to that game. Actually I would go no matter where or who they are playing. I am hoping for the one in Memphis against a Big 12 opponent. My wife wants a bowl game where it is warm.

Memphis has been quite snowy and icy a few winters in a row, so Florida or southern Texas would be better bets for that. Baylor in Memphis would be fun for sure.

Any P4 at any location, preferably one easily reached.

A game against a G5 is all risk. A loss hurts, regardless of how good the opponent actually is. Any P4 game is preferable... a P4 win, no matter how mediocre gets classed as UConn was 3-1 against Power conference teams in 2025, & a loss doesn't hurt as it's "expected."

Memphis in Dec/Jan can get plenty cold.

I know that Memphis can be very cold this time of year. My wife and I are not going agree on preferable bowl game locations. I loved the Fenway bowl game last year. She went but wasn't thrill with the weather.

That may have been the worst organized bowl game I’ve ever been to. However, it was a blast because we won.

A couple sites projecting FSU . I would absolutely love to play them. This is a great matchup. I hope it happens. Plus, many of their seniors would probably skip the bowl getting ready for ur

Ironically, Joly may have ended this possibility

All mayonnaise is disgusting, but if you are going to use mayo, it's gotta be Kewpie.
Mayo is OK. Problem is people slobber it onto a sandwich like they were pouring it on that guy's head.

On a personal level, playing USF in Tampa will always bring back great memories.

I say yeh-ish because IF UConn beats FAU and finishes 9-3, I'd like to have a P4 opponent in a bowl game.

But if it has to be G5, USF is a great option.

Have not been to Tampa since college days way back when. Went to the “Old Sombrero” and saw a Tampa Bay Bandits game. Their uniforms looked like the present day Bucs. Maybe they got a deal when the USFL disbanded.

Charlotte’s Mayo bowl requires either the ACC or SEC not to have enough bowl-qualified teams. Or, bowl horse trading. Unlikely UConn destination, but stranger things have occurred.
