I mean, sure, but does a 7-5 record guarantee us to NOT be cooked; or does any record regardless not mean anything since we’re a non-conference program?Reality Check:
We are an independent.........decidedly not with the cache of Notre Dame.
While Bowl eligible, we are way behind the pecking order of a number of mediocre teams in the Power 4. Their bowl tie-ins may well preclude us from a bowl invitation. We need to accept the fact that our bowl invitation prospects rely heavily on P4 teams failing to gain bowl eligibility.
That's life. We need to live with it as long as we pine for P4 membership.
Effectively yes, the first teams they’d cut if need be would be 6-6 G5 teams. I wouldn’t be worried about not making it though.given that we have six wins so far, if we win another (to make it seven wins), are we locked in for a bowl game then?
in other words, will the committees consider all 7-5 record teams (hopefully we do better, but still), as “above” any 6-6 team regardless of conference affiliation?
Horse hockey. UConn is one of 136 FBS programs and is bowl eligible. And even in the extremely remote possibility UConn does not get invited to a bowl game, that would create even more buzz around the program. UConn will be playing football in December.Reality Check:

What I don't understand is all the negativity. The most important thing to the coaches is the extra weeks of practice they get in. Not so much which bowl game that they go to. They will go bowing. Doesn't matter where.Reality Check:

Imagine complaining about going to a bowl game? Liek 5 years ago we'd be killing for what we have now in terms of record and performance on the field. What I don't understand is all the negativity. We don’t need a vacancy to get a bid. We will get one. UConn has become an attractive get. At 9-3 very attractive. At 8-4 still good.Since we have no automatic bowl tie-ins because of our independent status, it's all up to how many teams are bowl-eligible after the final week of the regular season. We were fortunate enough to not only have vacant bowl bids available to us last year, but got an ideal bowl game in Boston against an ACC team. Hopefully we get a similar deal this year.
That is just nonsense. We are going to a bowl. Talk to AD Dave. He will tell you that. These bowl tie-ins are not binding contracts. More gentlemen’s agreements”. Last year Fenway wanted UConn because we were local, interesting, and would bring fans. We brought way more than they expected fwiw. They did what they needed to do to make that happen. We also brought a decent crowd to Myrtle Beach. I wouldn’t be shocked to see us up against another ACC team. Those are attractive matchups for tv and fans alike.Reality Check:

Not intriguing, weird.UConn is an intriguing story in college football. Everyone thought we were cooked being an independent and Mora and Co. Are proving otherwise. Sure, bowl tie-ins matter, but they aren't the end all be all.
Wow...4am post....you get an A for effort. And FWIW we had a great time at the Fenway Bowl last year. I'd rather go watch a game in a warm climate, but we saved a couple grand overall and it was great. If we go back to Fenway I’d be perfectly happy. UConn Nation showed up in droves and it was a great day. Only downside is Fenway is a tough configuration and views are challenging in many places. They need to up the merch situation also.
Battling shingles which absolutely sucks. Can’t sleep. Just hoping the antivirals work and I can get to the Duke game. Priorities, right?Wow...4am post....you get an A for effort. Curious if you got the shingles vaccine?Battling shingles which absolutely sucks. Can’t sleep. Just hoping the antivirals work and I can get to the Duke game. Priorities, right?
We loved Fenway and had a great time. I know we would not have been able to go to any other bowl location other than Yankee Stadium and it was a great time for the family. Saw many people we knew at the game who were probably in similar situations so UConn Nation is definitely a huge plus. There were some folks near us decked out in their Bruins gear which led me to believe, there are some sports fans who just want to see live competition and are thirsty for a decent FBS program to root for. 😜If we go back to Fenway I’d be perfectly happy. OOF....sorry to hear that....I had a weirdly mild case of shingles fifteen years ago....never got much of a skin outbreak, but had all kinds of abdominal and side pain....doctors couldn't figure it out for over a week until a nurse noticed several "pock marks" in a line and they tested...voila.Battling shingles which absolutely sucks. Can’t sleep. Just hoping the antivirals work and I can get to the Duke game. Priorities, right?
