It's started already (I think?) I cannot keep track of all the dates and rules anymore, LOL.
Here is the announcement straight from her:
She started over 100 games at Minnesota. It seems like a significant loss.
It never seems to be God's plan to come off the bench.Averaged more than 32 minutes per game in conference play for 3 straight years. With Braun’s return and the development of McKinney, seems likely that Heyer was slated to come off the bench this season.
Early front runner for post of the year.It never seems to be God's plan to come off the bench.
So the "unable to play" rule does exist! (kidding) Was having a debate with some friends who coach high school basketball recently. They thought the cut off date to enter the portal to be eligible to play didn't exist.
Maybe so, but the fact they didn't know about the transfer portal deadline (so to speak) caught me by surprise. If she had transfered before the season started, she probably would have been eligible.

Yup. It was a little frustrating too as their responses and reactions to me was that I wasn't up to date or could understand the nuances. Sure, waivers are possible and has made this rule seem pointless, but the deadline still exists.Interesting that high school coaches don't know that.

My best guess is that because she’s set to graduate this semester and won’t play until next season, she’s allowed to enter the portal as such with the assumption that both those things occur as expected.I am confused about Heyer being in the portal. Every article reporting her departure says something like “Heyer intends to graduate from Minnesota in December and will be a grad transfer and play her senior season with a different school in the 2026-27 season.” So if she is not yet a graduate, how can she be currently in the portal as a graduate transfer? Can someone explain?

I assume she was getting an early start on being in the portal and will not leave until after she graduates, and she is leaving the MN team immediately to maintain a year of eligibility to pay her first year of grad school. She has no stats this year for MN.I am confused about Heyer being in the portal.
