2025-26 New school commitments by Transfers

She's a gem. Y'all got a good one, and Brenda will almost surely show her a better senior season than we could have...
I've been impressed by her every time I watch her. And also appreciate her kinda taking one for the team by playing very inside this year.

Thanks. I'm just having a hard time imagining her falling that far. Wisconsin is not a good WBB program. Not like Deal looked anywhere near her HS recruit ranking but still thought someone would take a shot at her that was better than a bottom tier P4 team.
I think the approach has changed with NIL. You have to consider your chance of making a WNBA squad. If you’re on the fence…get paid now by whoever is willing to pay. And by now…I mean this year. Next year she could be transferring again. From what I saw she had a typical frosh year and IMO was slightly less than advertised.

It would break my heart. But it’s certainly a possibility.

Coach Griffith is a known commodity. I thought she would've been a great fit at Northwestern or Viriginia. Don't know if she was considered and I certainly have no quibbles with either choice (think I had those three and Harvard's coach in my thoughts). It would take a lot to get her out of Morningside Heights, but Stanford would be tough to say "no" to if numbers were right (salary, NIL).

How's this for a compromise? Here's hoping Stanford gives Coach Paye one more shot and Coach Griffith can go for one more Ivy League Title with Riley Weiss and a talented back court, along with some incoming transfers (Mary Ashley Stevenson among them) and a Top 100 Hoopgurlz recruit. Then, see where the dust settles.

(P.S. I'm just having a little fun here. As the parent of Columbia grad students, I've been to the gym and watched several games. I like her teams and everything she's done. But opportunities do come calling....)

Brandon Clay is affiliated with, among other ventures, Prospects Nation. I find him to be on target most of the time and I learn from his player thumbnails.
I've also liked his thumbnails, but he should not be a McDonald's and Naismith AA voter. Players pay him to be scouted and trained, and then he votes for McDonald's AA. Deal is a long-time customer (client?), and he was a big booster of hers along the way. Now he is also an agent.

I’m not sure if I like this post or not. I like the Ivy title part, but the rest gives me heartburn. 🙃

Not a player I'm familiar with but the highlights look great. Courtney, welcome to Ann Arbor. Go Blue!
Michigan did well here. She was the best player for the Cardinal when Notre Dame played them.
If it wasn't for the fact that ND has a kazillion wings next year (actually, four), then I would've loved for Coach Ivey to make a play for her.
One more scorer to add to your mix.

Courtney cooks. (that's literally her slogan). She can hit from anywhere and was the best player on our team at creating her own shot - not coincidentally, on a team with a mediocre offensive playbook, she had to do it a lot. Y'all got a good one and she'll have so much more space to work with shooting alongside Swords and Olson. That's a lot of shooting power!

I'm seeing some indications Amara Whiting to Iowa.

edit--I didn't see this when I was browsing thru this thread, maybe I missed it

edit #2--it's on her instagram, that seems fairly official

Last year, Georgia plucked shooting guard Rylie Theuerkauf from Wake Forest. This year, a combo guard.
Gotta feel for Megan Gabbia. Develop prospects to the point of having them plucked....

Unfortunately Wake Forest is the Southern version of Boston College in that regard. Starting with Jewel Loyd, she has lost some quality players.

Just shooting from the hip here. The more I see who exactly is in the portal and who UConn has coming in as well as coming back, I’m not quite sure if Geno is all that interested in bringing in a transfer. Looking at the following:
  • GUARDS: Ash, KK, Kayleigh, Allie, Kelis, Jovana
  • WINGS/FORWARDS: Sarah, Blanca, Morgan, (Ash in a small lineup)
  • CENTERS: Jana, Gandy, Olivia, (Sarah in a small lineup)
While I’m not suggesting that UConn can not bring in a talented player or two from the portal, if we assume that every player currently on UConn’s roster will improve between this past season and next season, what exactly are you going to get from a player with similar talent?
An NC. A player with similar talent might have more experience (senior or grad), aggressive personality, physical presence, leadership qualities, etc. I think we can assume improvement from Sarah and Blanca, but where else? There most certainly will not be a Paige or Azzi out there but we need someone who can perhaps add 'spark' (intensity and determination) to top off the team.

I think everyone improves from year to year under Geno. For instance, the biggest mystery in WBB is Gandy. We know she can run the court and make her layups in the layup line. We also know she was the biggest player on the team from every team photo and she has a powerful set of hips and legs that are perfect for knocking people around in the paint.

What if Gandy turns out to be another Oldacre or Okot? Pair her with the Big O who is undoubtedly the future for UConn and you have a great one-two punch at center for the next 4 seasons.

Yeah - not a fan of that. Ruins any impression of impartiality in my opinion.

I strongly suspect that Geno is looking to add to the front court via the portal.

His roster is currently at twelve. That includes Morgan, coming back from an injury that has kept her out of action since February 2025, and Gandy, who certainly has potential but the jury is very much out on her ability to contribute. Add to that two very promising first years who have yet to play a minute of college basketball. His two departures were frontcourt players, Ayanna and Ice, and Serah is also gone from last season's roster.

The memory is still fresh of going into battle with 6 or 7 healthy players. He does not want to get caught short again. A roster of twelve is not enough to protect from a rash of injuries.

And he certainly doesn't want to be forced to play Sarah 39 or 40 minutes in big games.

An "athletic" big would really fill out this roster. I have to believe that there is some interest in either Forbes or O'Neal, or maybe someone from Europe that is off of our radar. If he can't get someone at that level, he may stand pat.

I agree with most of your points. But if I’m Geno I absolutely want my superstar on the court in Big games as much as needed. Going back along time to the present day, Sue, DT, Maya, Stewie, Paige and others played big minutes in Big games.

Beyond that, I can’t imagine that Forbes or O’Neal would want to leave a starting role, where they are used to playing major minutes for a supporting role at UConn, not with all the teams out there desperate for frontcourt players and willing to pay for it.

Agreed that big minutes is required of the top players, but 38-40 minutes is asking a lot.

Players in the past have left other programs for a supporting role at UConn, e.g., Dorka, Lou, Chen. Due to injuries, Lou ended up being a go-to player.

I think both of the players mentioned would get significant minutes, certainly they would think in their own mind that they could earn starter's minutes, maybe being part of a top tier program is a goal, and the UConn imprimatur has been a plus for most players moving forward. Who knows. I think Geno has plenty of selling points though.

All the players you mention were starters at UConn from day 1. There is no guarantee that Forbes or O’Neal would start for the Huskies.

Neither of them would probably ever start at UCONN. Realistically 4 of the starting 5 is likely set with KK/Shade/Blanca/Strong. Most are projecting Vukosa (top incoming post player) to start at the 5, otherwise there's a good chance UCONN goes with a smaller lineup and starts Ziebell or Heckel. Or if Vukosa isn't ready, there's always El Alfy who was a starter as a freshman.

Forbes has 1 year left, I don't think she'd choose to go to UCONN to likely be a backup for her last year and play in the same conference.

O'Neal isn't likely to beat out Vukosa/El Alfy this upcoming season either. I think it's very unlikely that a good (but not elite) transfer could come in and get significant playing time right away. Geno doesn't typically go more than 8-9 deep and already has 7 returning rotation players, Cheli back from injury, the #2 incoming recruit and another highly touted freshman coming in.

Come on people enough is enough! We want to hear about transfers that are happening now.

Following the new head coach from the Atlantic to Three Rivers, this could help set up a new program in Pittsburgh. We'll see.

As this past year has shown, it is not who starts, it's who finishes. Forbes would go to UConn for the same reason as Williams, to learn, to get better, to contribute to a NC, and to get drafted into the W. She would get more opportunities to shine against better competition than the BE normally gets and no one in the rotation is really considered a backup. Cheli, Kelis and Jovana are a year away. 3 slots available, no 2027 commits yet. A perfect storm...
