2025-26 New school commitments by Transfers

All the players you mention were starters at UConn from day 1. There is no guarantee that Forbes or O’Neal would start for the Huskies.
Dorka did not start from day one. In 2021-2022 she started 15 of 32 games, and did not start until after Paige was hurt in the Notre Dame game. She really struggled early on. I remember seeing her come off the bench at the first game against Arkansas and it was not good. Her unfortunate injury at the end of that season actually brought her back to UConn for a second season in 2022-2023, when she did flourish.

Chen did start all 40 games in 2024-2025 but her average minutes, 23.4 per game, were only two minutes more than KK. At Princeton she played 34.9 minutes per game. Her averages at UConn, 6.9 and 3.4, were much lower than her Princeton averages of 15.8 and 4.9. In the biggest game, the National Championship, she played 17 minutes.

So both players did play much more of a supporting role than they played at their previous schools, even if they did start some or all of the time.

Lou did excel in 2022-2023 but she was signed in the Spring of 2022 and Paige tore her ACL that summer. Azzi only played 15 games that season and Caroline missed a lot of time as well. If Paige was able to play that season, there would likely have been less reliance on Lou as a scorer - although as I recall Lou surprised everyone to the upside from the moment she arrived on campus.

So there is plenty of precedent for good players leaving other programs to take on supportive roles at UConn, as starters or otherwise, and for those roles to develop in ways and for reasons that could not be anticipated.

And I didn't suggest that they would necessarily start at UConn, assuming they were wise enough to come to UConn. I did suggest they would get significant minutes, which I think is true, and that they are likely confident enough in their own abilities to think that they could earn starter's minutes. And worth noting, in the last two seasons Forbes has scored 20, 12, 17 and 14 against UConn.

Yea maybe. I want to see if Lindsay Gottlieb can pursuade a team with 3 ball-dominant scorers to actually share the ball before I include them in a “top 3” teams.
Funny, that coach nobody is very confident in went 31-4 in JuJu's last healthy season, and gave UConn its closest tourney game without the injured JuJu.

Most people also think having three US#1 high school players on a roster is a good thing.

For sure Davidson is happy and effective off the ball, she is a 1-4 player. Hall, ironically in her ESPN profile, is listed as a wing. So could be as simple as JuJu show with 2 wings, and possibly the other 5 star freshmen recruits Okeke and Fagan in the frontcourt.

I'll take the leap of faith and put them down as Big10 champ with 30+ wins again.

Funny you should mention that Elite 8 game vs UConn. At the time I mentioned that it was the best “team basketball” I had seen from USC all season. Specifically, everyone discovered just how good Rayah Marshall was. Prior to that game, Marshall was pretty much an afterthought in USC’s offense. But with no JuJu available, Marshall put up 23 pts, paving her way into the WNBA draft and a spot on the Sun and now the Dallas Wings.

After that season, several “role players” like Kayleigh left USC. There was talk about a two-tiered system at USC between stars (Watkins & Iriafen) and everyone else. We’ll see if Gottlieb can blend all the talent she clearly has into a cohesive team.

With TX and UCLA likely taking a step backwards, it looks like there will be a Big-2 next year in SC & UConn, with everyone else chasing them down.
Texas will have Booker and a bunch of young talent - and are probably still working some talent in the portal.

UCLA needs a lot from the portal. They could get it. If so, They may struggle early and gel late. Still, who knows?

U$C? Loaded with talent and I mean loaded.

Michigan? Who has given UConn and SCar trouble.

TCU or the ACC leader?

Fagan is a guard. She will need to learn a lot to be an effective big this year

Why UConn? They lost Fudd and looks like no interest in the portal, and no 2027 commits yet. I see SC and USC as the big 2

Ummm, no, we are not as good as SC. Unless we add a 2/3 defensive stopper. We will come up short. We are not quick enough. Also no one to slash and get a bucket when when the play breaks down. Maybe some players will get better during the off-season and provide these things, but i haven't seen it. KK is awesome defensively but we need more. Its not just Jazzy anymore. Its not just Makeer. I think our frontcourt is enough, could use a rebounding 4 but I think we can win with what we have there. Its our guards, for the first time in a long time, we aren't as good as we need to be in certain areas. They are good, but they will run into better when it matters most. Its as far as I can see, USC and SC, are the two teams that we don't have enough defense for and they will be the two teams in our way in the end. Expect a repeat of this season. I pray that im wrong, but it's pretty obvious honestly.

Most likely a big 3 with SC, UConn and USC. Maybe Gottlieb isn't a great coach, but she's a decent coach who'll have an indecent amount of talent.

I don't want to drag this thread into next year's teams. We have whole offseason. 😁

...but, I'm pretty sure USC hired Gottlieb for wins/losses not whether it's pretty or not.

Elsewhere, Fagan listed as 6'4" forward, who staff described as 'versatile &positionless'. She's been at USC already since Jan'26. Given players like Z Johnson at LSU, and M Cheli/B Quinonez at UConn are eager to play the 4 spot, as a means to getting big freshman minutes, I'd be surprised not to see her there for USC.

Glad to see K Johnson going back to Virginia. She may have renegotiated her deal.🤔
