Cal Poly was ranked in FCS 8 times from 2008 to 2016, but they haven't been good since. Big Sky is a real good FCS conference.
Hence why I said they were a mediocre FCS program.

Hiring Hartline is kind of a risk as he is an assistant coach who has only coached at one P2 school. He has had every advantage and resource at Ohio St., but now must work with less.
Or he’ll found that USF is not equal to Ohio State and never quite get it and he’ll be the second coming of Jeff Scott.Speaking as a USF alum, I'd rather they roll the dice on upside than on a has been retread. Yes, I expect in a few seasons Hartline will bolt for a P2 situation. And when that day comes, USF will be in a better place than today.

USF failed when they hired Jeff Scott, the OC at Clemson and his resume is very similar to Hartline's. Golesh had made stops at G5s and multiple P5s so he was better prepared for the USF job.Right. It’s all sunshine and rainbows for Hartline. He’s so delusional he thinks it’ll be easy street at USF, cuz of all the advantages he had at OSU. Do you think he’s 5 years old?
And why the hostility? Are you upset UConn wasn’t in the running? If UConn landed him, you’d be blowing smoke up his butt.
Being in a better place will be tough…USF is in a pretty good place right now.Speaking as a USF alum, I'd rather they roll the dice on upside than on a has been retread. I would be careful questioning other fan bases coaching selections given UConn has made some of the poorest head football coaches hires in the last 14 years. Hopefully DB gets this one right.USF failed when they hired Jeff Scott, the OC at Clemson and his resume is very similar to Hartline's. Keeping the coach until after the season to hold the recruiting class together doesn't work anymore. Players have 30 days after the coach leaves to jump ship.I think Penn St. would have been better off firing Franklin after the season was over as the record probably would have been 6-6 and then you could argue he had all of the resources this year and he couldn't make it happen and other coaches would have understood that. And, you probably would have held the recruiting class together.
My point is that the new coach would have some time to keep the recruits. My guess is that Penn St. would have been able to keep at least half of their class if Franklin was fired last week and a new coach was hired. Franklin was fired almost 2 months ago and still no idea who the replacement will be!Keeping the coach until after the season to hold the recruiting class together doesn't work anymore. No one wants to work for a school that has unrealistic expectations while having to fight with schools like Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Oregon etc. for the B1G title. The fanbase is also incrediblely impatient. This kind of stress can age anyone by 10 years just thinking about it.Penn St at this point might be a less desirable UConn. Kraft really dropped the ball HARD
Getting 6 wins at PSU next year would put the new HC on the hot spot, meanwhile getting 6 (although 7+ would be better) wins here with all the turmoil of the staff/player rebuild, and that coach would be seen as a savior of sorts. Both jobs come with crazy difficulty and pressure, but here at least the threat to terminate employment has a much longer leash.Penn St at this point might be a less desirable UConn. If the new Penn St. coach can't win 6 games with their schedule next year, they should be on the hot seat:Getting 6 wins at PSU next year would put the new HC on the hot spot, meanwhile getting 6 (although 7+ would be better) wins here with all the turmoil of the staff/player rebuild, and that coach would be seen as a savior of sorts. USF is certainly in a great spot. They have an improved funding department, a new stadium and former Big10 coach in fertile recruiting state. They’re in great position to go for improved conference affiliation. And currently UConn is scheduled to play there in 2028Being in a better place will be tough…USF is in a pretty good place right now.
Unfortunately, that's always been the trend... I say continue to give Black coaches a shot though... You never know when you'll strike gold... If he's the right guy, you try and get him...Not exactly a great day for Black head coaches.
The interim PennSt coach may get the job only after the Nittanies got turned by every other breathing person on the planet.
And the interim who did a decent job at UCLA and Fresno ends up at a mediocre FCS school.
Honestly, solid point... we shouldn't be throwing stones anywhere...I would be careful questioning other fan bases coaching selections given UConn has made some of the poorest head football coaches hires in the last 14 years. Hopefully DB gets this one right.
Penn State has probably set themselves back at least 2 years and maybe 4 years. To win the National Championship in football you need to do well in High School recruiting. The elite teams have a split of 80/20 between High School and portal players. I can see the AD getting fired.Penn State's first mistake was prioritizing providing fresh meat for their fan base (firing Franklin as early as they did). This was compounded by not taking advantage of the additional time they had to find his long term replacement.
I imagine that arrogance on their part led them to believing all they needed to do was flash the position with market rate compensation and then they would be fightoff suitors. They overlooked the possibility that other jobs may provide similar pay with a longer runway on reaching expectations, which I believe is one of the main reasons this has turned our as it has.
One comment I read was Penn State is in danger of becoming another Nebraska. No one wants to work for a school that has unrealistic expectations while having to fight with schools like Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Oregon etc. for the B1G title. The fanbase is also incrediblely impatient. This kind of stress can age anyone by 10 years just thinking about it.
I wonder if PSU will end up going after rethreads like Brian Kelly etc.
Now they’re all just taking swipes @ ‘em 😛
Names are names…
Unless he hires someone home run hire in the eyes of the boosters, Kraft is not making it to the end of next seasonMy biggest fear is the Penn St situation completely blows up and they are looking for a new AD.
