2025-26 Coaching Carousel

I thought PSU knew what they were doing when they fired him. I had no idea they didn’t have a guy ready to go. I actually questioned the move thinking it was risky but then figured, “they have a plan already”.
You had to assume, when they canned him, they had a plan. You don't fire a playoff caliber coach unless you think you've got a championship caliber coach lined up.

Turns out this firing was like some kind of impulse buy at the grocery store. Penn St AD is a joke at this point.

PennSt: What if you had a job that nobody wanted?

Dont get me wrong, they'll get someone eventually. The market always clears. But is going to be far more $$ or far lower quality than they had anticipated.
Who's the Mike Brown of CFB?

I saw where Big Ben is floating idea of Mike Tomlin to Penn State. Tomlin was never a HC in college and hasn’t been a college coach since 2000. Seems far fetched idea

Hiring Hartline is kind of a risk as he is an assistant coach who has only coached at one P2 school. He has had every advantage and resource at Ohio St., but now must work with less.
Has a great history with WRs. My guess he will get the players and have a great offense. The other high level G6 jobs are Tulane and Memphis.

I called firing Franklin a huge mistake. Had you in the national semifinals last year. Yeah they had down year, this year, but this man won at Vanderbilt pre NIL which was virtually impossible. People don't appreciate how good a coach he is.
He was 15-28 against top 25 teams at Penn State, 4-21 against top 10 teams.

With the resources he had there that's putrid. At some point you have to win the big games and he didn't.

This is assuming there is someone better out there. The fact PSU didn't have someone lined up already before firing him was just poor planning. They are dealing with the consequences while having to compete with many other job openings.

Yep. This is what PSU fans always bring up. We will see how the next guy does. National semifinals is nothing to sneeze at but its a done deal. I think Franklin will have VA Tech in the CFP before PSU gets back.

Maybe but that's only because the ACC is trash.

I think Penn St. would have been better off firing Franklin after the season was over as the record probably would have been 6-6 and then you could argue he had all of the resources this year and he couldn't make it happen and other coaches would have understood that. And, you probably would have held the recruiting class together.

He's going to Florida which is one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country. Golesh left him with a great foundation and he knows how to coach offenses.

The ACC might not even get a team in the CFP this year if Duke wins. The committee has set it up by ranking JMU.

They should have a candidate really to go already before firing him.
