He is performing about average for an Akron coach.

UF and Penn St are huge jobs! UCLA might go the GT route and retain the Intrum coach.
 
The SEC has created a problem for itself. It's too brutal. Florida is not a bad team -- if they played a weaker non-conference, they'd probably be on the cusp of ranked/receiving votes.

It's great for viewers -- there are high quality matchups every weekend. But brutal for fans and coaches. And did they decide to go to 9 game sked?

They need more weak teams. Vandy having a great year doesnt help.
 
Interesting timing firing Napier before a bye week with a rivalry game the following week.

That's how it's going to be the more and more consolidation that happens. Mathematically.. somebody has to finish last. If you try and create super leagues.,some of these perennial power houses are going to wind up at the bottom of the new super league and become the new losers.

I compare this PSU situation to Paul Chryst at Wisconsin. Chryst went 13-1, there one year. Pay him to leave only to bring a guy in who can't sniff where Chryst had them.

Absolutely true. That team has enough talent to surprise anyone…so letting him continue to coach could just put them in an awkward position.

If I was UF….i would back up the Brinks truck to Kiffin’s house. He is perfect for them. He has a lot of Spurrier in him. Good with the media…donors…great reacruiters. Get’s the NIL game…and knows the SEC. Ole Miss is a good job…but he can be the next Saban at UF.

Is it fair to assume that even though there are plenty of high profile openings , Mora is not interested in any other opporunity? I assumed when Mora was hired, that this wasn’t a stepping stone job but rather his last shot at a head coaching gig.

But when I saw that Cignetti is the same age as Mora, maybe he would be attractive to a school looking for an experienced leader who has proven they can be successful in the current college environment.

I had posted in another thread that one of things that I admire about Mora is that he never chased the bigger job. When he left a job it was because he was fired.

But is there a chance that Mora wants one more shot at a big time opportunity? I have no reason to think he would leave, but maybe I am being naive.

My gut sez as long as he continues to get the support and resources he needs here - he likes it here. AD David Benedict seems to give him the latitude he likely desires without some of the additional headaches in other locales.

Never say never in college football (or life) but he has UConn in a very good position should a need arise. I for one am not gonna lose sleep over it.

A 63 year old coach that didn't work out at another school would generally not be high on the list of Head Coaching candidates for big time jobs. That said, in the Transfer Portal era, programs may not have a long time horizon. Honestly, other than firing Deshaun Foster, these coaching moves don't make a lot of sense, so who knows?
