I don't see how the UM Trustees and Prez let Warde Manuel hire the new coach. He's fast becoming the pariah in this drama.
That doesnt sound right. Otherwise the school could just not name someone new until Aug 1, and then the players have no options anyway.I thought they had to wait til a new coach was signed.
The window for players undergoing a head coaching change was also reduced. A new window of 15 days opens five calendar days after the hiring or public announcement of a new head coach. Should a school fail to hire or publicly announce a new head coach within 30 days after the previous coach's departure, the window will open on the 31st day after departure, provided that the 31st day is no earlier than January 3. This particular window, also open for 15 days, may open at any time before June 30.
Guess this redefines the concept of the ‘Michigan man’On Manuel's watch:
- UConn bypassed by Louisville for the final life-raft off the G5 (prior to Pac-12 implosion)
- Bob Diaco hire and starting the extension process (which Benedict inherited) after the 2015 bowl (Houston upset) season
- Kevin Ollie hire (admittedly forced on him by Calhoun)
- Jim Harbaugh situation & Sign-Stealing Scandal
- Juwon Howard situation
- Sherrone Moore situation
- Hockey coaching scandal
While Michigan doesn't care about the first three, I can't imagine after everything Manuel survives a fourth major scandal/situation in the last few years.
guess notI thought they had to wait til a new coach was signed.
Michigan is coming across as rather scummy, IMO

I’m getting whiplash from all of these coaching changes
I am no great supporter of Warde Manuel. Might be the worst AD in UConn history and among the worst in the country. What I am tempted to say is he was monitoring the situation.
But in this case I think it is pretty unlikely he acted irresponsibly. You know 1 man’s irrefutable evidence can be seen as heresay by another. So if you get a report, you need to investigate and review the results. And in this case you need to be very sure you are right. You can’t ruin somebody’s reputation, career and life without something more than a rumor. Besides that, what does it get you to delay? Players can leave if the coach changes. And if I recall correctly, even if he signs a commitment letter a player can back out without penalty for some number of days. It extends further if the head coach leaves. So there is little to be gained by not moving quickly. Might even be in a better position if they had moved in October or November. There’ a very good chance they would have filled the position already with a name coach and be moving on.
I’m more about UM looking for a new AD. Hopefully they don’t look our way to fill that position.
You are right- the Michigan fans are throwing out a lot of wish list names. Kalen Deboer is another but a reliable source says…"Detroit Sports News" has 167 followers.
He is a mess. My Michigan friends didn’t hi to pick the last coach. But there is an old saying, Never assume a conspiracy when something can be explained by plain old incompetence. I think the Monitor is incompetent.Uhhh. Look up "Warde Manuel Scandal". It's been one after another in his regime. This isn't an isolate incident. And you saw the signs when he was here too.
Cut out the middle man. Kiffin to MIchigan will get it done for team chaos.I think it would be great if Michigan signed deBoer then Alabama stole Kiffin from LSU making him the first guy to screw 2 schools in the same year the LSU stole Smart from Georgia. People want. chaos give it to them.
Unless he has been snowing people for the last two decades, that doesn't sound like Coach Candle's MO.I just hope there is no downstream effect where Candle leaves before coaching one game for us
