Because it's never too early. :)

Gary Parrish is predicting 2 Huskies in the lottery next season (only has predictions for the first 14 picks).

Clingan had some first-round buzz before deciding not to enter the 2023 NBA Draft. He's reportedly grown since helping the Huskies win the national championship and should be one of the best bigs in college basketball next season.

He could have definitely grown. He’s just not 8’ tall lol.

His dad claims he grew.

Yeah this was the original March-ish timeframe of "actually more like 7'3"

3 Kentucky guys in his top 8...oh good, we'll get to see Calipari at his smuggiest.

Clingan to the Knicks would be awesome.

I think it's pretty likely we have 2 top 20 picks next year. We'll see about who goes in the lottery, and Clingan could hurt his stock, but yeah.
It's so early, everything is projections. Castle we sure hops is a stud who shoots well enough. Clingan has to show a lot more than last year to go top 20. Hoping he does. I think people may be sleeping on Alex. If Alex demonstrates that he has more athleticism than he showed and gets stronger? His stock is going up in a big way.

Lively just went 12th after his freshman year, Clingan is better than him.

Yeah but after squeaking into the NCAA Tournament and another first or second round exit we'll get to hear him say that getting guys to the NBA is more important than winning games. Which will infuriate the Kentucky fanbase again and be very entertaining to watch. :)

Clingan is better than Lively, but Lively has more upside. Hopefully Clingan dominates to the point he also goes lottery.
Disagree. What makes his upside higher? Clingan actually showed post moves while Lively was exclusively a putback and alley-oop guy. He’s a more versatile defender, but Clingan is a great paint defender a-la Kessler, and has good form to project being a potential inside-out player. Just cuz a guy is bouncier doesn’t mean he has more upside.

In college, Clingan is a superior player in almost every way.

At the NBA level, I think Lively has a higher floor due to centers being extremely defense-oriented and Lively having quicker feet and better able to defend in space enabling him to be more versatile defensively. But Clingan's ceiling is much higher (and much higher offensive floor) due to his better BBIQ, passing ability, rebounding, hands, and potentially better shooting (Lively shot in HS but not at Duke and Clingan's shooting is still theoretical but sounds like it's better). They're both awesome rim protectors.

For all the talk about the offensive side of the ball, it seems like whether or not Clingan is a lottery pick will be based on how he looks moving his feet on pnr’s next year

Obviously his offense will matter for the team’s success next year

Agreed. I'd also add if he can really take a couple of 3s a game like they've suggested and hit 30% or better, that would help his NBA prospects a lot too.

Advanced defensive concepts, 3s, and dunks is all they're really looking for. If he can show off a little of the flashes of passing we saw, even better.

Clingan was actually moved really well considering his size which was originally one of the knocks on him coming into UCONN. I can just imagine the UCONN Staff is working really hard to improve Clingan's lateral quickness as they know that will help him take an even bigger leap this year. I have no doubt we will see an improved Clingan this year like we saw with Hawkins.

Upside also gets GMs and coaches fired when it doesn’t come to fruition.

I think that if DC develops a decent 3pt shot he can easily be top 3-4 in the draft.
I don’t think that’s what it’s dependent on. There’s players who get drafted every year without it. 6 of the 10 players in the top 10 this year had that listed as a weakness. Meanwhile none of the best shooters in the draft went top 10.

You need it if you want to be a specialist. But there’s other qualities more important if you want to be a franchise player. Which DC has the potential to be. In the past Evan Mobley and James Wiseman both went top 3 with no 3 point ability. It’s not going to make or break DC here. It’s a luxury if anything.

Nailed it. If he can protect the rim, dunk/layup his way to 12-15ish PPG, and show a decent shot form then the scouts will be all over him

7'2 agile center who can finish at the rim, run the floor, control the paint, and potentially stretch the floor is a highly valuable build. And as a college sophomore that's an EASY lottery pick. The footspeed on defense, conditioning, and vision can be worked on in the league
