9 am here or 2 pm opening game?
2:30 here.9 am here or 2 pm opening game?
Thanks. Was too lazy to look up time difference lol2:30 here.
So is Chaminade not playing?
Evidently they're only in the field every other year.So is Chaminade not playing?
And thank goodness they are not in the tournament this year because they are Division 2 if I am not mistaken and playing them means a quality win cannot be earned.Evidently they're only in the field every other year.
Yup. The odd years.Evidently they're only in the field every other year.
I could be wrong but I don't think it's setup as a true 1 v 8, 2 v 7 bracket. If it is we're definitely not the 1 seed because Dayton and Colorado are projected to be significantly worse than MemphisOriginally I was annoyed that we drew a ho-hum program like Memphis after the past two years, but the more I think about it, I guess it makes sense. Maybe I'm off in my frame of thinking, but this is the only way I can conceptualize it.
#1 UConn vs. #8 Memphis
#2 UNC vs. #7 Dayton --opposite side of bracket
#3 ISU vs. #4 Auburn --opposite side of bracket
#5 MSU vs. #6 Colorado
Weird because normally I'd expect a 3-6 matchup and a 4-5 matchup, but I can't see how the committee would put ISU or Auburn lower than MSU. The former two teams are loaded. Am I missing something?
NJHoops mentioned we were obligated to play Memphis as part of leaving the AAC, so maybe we are the #1 seed but asked them to adjust the bracket to make sure we play Memphis and are done with that obligation?I could be wrong but I don't think it's setup as a true 1 v 8, 2 v 7 bracket. I wonder how good their opponent was, MSU is on a Euro tour
I think if you change the seeding to "TV popularity" or "fanbase size" from "how good they'll be" you'll see a better fitting pattern.Originally I was annoyed that we drew a ho-hum program like Memphis after the past two years, but the more I think about it, I guess it makes sense. I've never heard of most of these guys but they're definitely a lot older than a college team. Nate Watson, who was a pretty good player at PC, is on the team.Seems like a mid tier team from a decent Euro pro league (Adriatic - ABA), so pretty good competition. Probably roughly comparable to a G-league team, who would pretty much all be favored over college teams. Assuming it was their A team, a 5 point loss is a decent result.
Final Four loss to MSU…in Detroit. Much like the 98’ loss to UNC in Greensboro. I’m not sure either team loses in a more neutral atmosphere.Izzo has been a major thorn in UConn's side. Overall record against Michigan St. is only 4-4, including a devastating Final Four loss, UConn's only loss ever in the Final Four. Izzo has also handled UConn the last 2 meetings. It's about time for Danny to put a major smackdown on them, hopefully in the 2nd round.
And with a healthy DysonFinal Four loss to MSU…in Detroit. Much like the 98’ loss to UNC in Greensboro. I’m not sure either team loses in a more neutral atmosphere.
That UNC team was older and stacked with Carter and Jamison, don't think a change in venue changes the result that 98 team was just a year away. The 09 team simply didn't play well and with AJ off we needed another perimeter player to help him out which would have been Dyson, lights looked too bright for Kemba in the FF as a freshman. I think UConn fans give that game being in Detroit too much credit, UNC blew MSU's doors off in the title game.Final Four loss to MSU…in Detroit. Much like the 98’ loss to UNC in Greensboro. Also, 2009 UConn was 21-33 for FTs against Mich State, including Kemba Walker's 3-9 FTs.That UNC team was older and stacked with Carter and Jamison, don't think a change in venue changes the result that 98 team was just a year away. The UNC team was stacked but Uconn held their own. UNC was the better team overall that year but I find it hard to believe the venue didn’t play into it. If it’s played in Hartford, not Greensboro, it’d have mattered. Doesn’t matter now, like u said they were a year away and the rest is history. MSU loss was disappointing all around. That UNC team was older and stacked with Carter and Jamison, don't think a change in venue changes the result that 98 team was just a year away. 4-4 against a program like Michigan State is not bad at all. The recent match ups have been pretty even as well. And as to Detroit in 2009, I raise you a Madison Square Garden in 2014.Izzo has been a major thorn in UConn's side. It wasn't that devastating. We were missing our main offensive threat and they were playing a home game. Even so, MSU was lucky that doofus had the game of his life.Overall record against Michigan St. is only 4-4, including a devastating Final Four loss, UConn's only loss ever in the Final Four.
The Elite Eight 2014 win (the stats were just unbelievably in favor of the Huskies) and the UConn win in Germany over MSU were sweet!4-4 against a program like Michigan State is not bad at all. The recent match ups have been pretty even as well. And as to Detroit in 2009, I raise you a Madison Square Garden in 2014.
