2023 Fall Camp

-> Charlton hinted that there is some separation now, and the distribution of reps with the top offensive unit is soon to change. That could suggest Roberson and Fagnano have made it a narrower search with the season opener against NC State less than three weeks away.

“We’re not making any decisions today,” Charlton said. “We’re going to be having some conversations, but we will be changing the reps.” <-

-> He’s an elite passer,” Charlton said. “He can throw the ball second to none. There are not many guys who have the arm talent that he has, especially in that he’s not a 6-4 quarterback. He has (running) skills. I think the game has slowed down quite a bit for him.” <-

The Hearst version:

-> "If the ball moves during the game, that's the guy. We have to be accurate. We need to run the whole operation. We want to be as multiple as we can be. The more things they can do and handle, whether it's the run game or pass game, those are the guys who will play. And your quarterback has to be a leader." <-

This screams what a healthy Roberson does best.

I am absolutely not one to read into things too much but I agree, signs keep pointing to him.

I'll add that Zion's post-practice interview talking about confidence in himself and staying confident sounds like someone who knows he isn't on top of the depth chart. At least not as of now.

Good read:

-> “Last year was a challenge with the personnel…now we’re moving forward, and we feel like we have the personnel to do it,” Charlton said.

He shared that he felt slightly better after Saturday as well.

“Second time we’ve moved the ball well in a scrimmage,” Charlton said, pointing to optimism around the offensive line’s continuity and an influx of talent at receiver, where he said he found their progress to be encouraging.

“Our speed is drastically increased,” he said.

He also mentioned that WR Cam Ross would likely start a game if there was one the next day, hypothetically, and echoed a similar sentiment for Kevens Clercius, even though we’re not seeing a lot of them. Mora previously said that he’s keeping Ross limited during the preseason in part because he’s a proven player but also to make sure he “gets to the starting line” after essentially losing two seasons to injury. <-

considering all the hype around the big 3 transfer WRs (Buckman, Burns, Porter) I was surprised to hear that Charlton thinks Clercius and Ross are starters if there’s a game tomorrow. tells me there’s at least 5 WRs that we can really count on. Not something we could’ve said last year

Wonder if Cam Edwards has enough speed to be the lead returner, or one of the kick off return specialists? His only path to touches this year would be heavy injuries. Would like to keep and develop him for when some of the guys ahead of him move on.

Seemed like he had pretty good hands in HS on both sides of the ball. Can't see where he would be far behind the other guys. Versatile athlete and it's crazy to think we might have 4 backs that could be ahead of him on the charts. Hope he gets some touches. Love our depth this year.

I would love to see Camryn Edwards get meaningful snaps! We need those CT kids showing out, especially since we lost some to cuts/voluntarily leaving, must represent as best as possible. Imagine 2 years down the road, two homegrown RBs as stars of the show?

I agree. Would be HUGE for our hometown (Norwalk CT) too.
