Marquette Beats Seton Hall, 75-54; Karlen Scores a Career-High 30 Pts.

Well, it didn't take long for Coach Megan Duffy to get win 101. A few points:
  • Liza Karlen's breakout season continues. She blew through her 17.5 ppg average mid-way through the 3rd quarter en route to her 30-spot. She shot 11-6 from the field, including 2-3 from three, and 6-6 from the FT line. Doesn't call attention to herself but just gets it done (she reminds me of Maddy Westbeld in this respect). Great find and development by Duffy.
  • Transfer forward Frannie Hottinger and her 8.1 rebound per game were out last night, so freshman Skylar Forbes (from Canada) got the start She only had two points, but cleaned up the glass, grabbing 11 rebounds.
  • New Jersey was in a state of emergency due to severe rain and winds and Walsh Gym had a pandemic feel to it. You could hear every comment uttered and the clang of the ball htting the rim, came though loud and clear. No home court advantage to speak of.
  • Micah Gray, Seton Hall's transfer guard (Texas Southern) plays and shoots well. Like usual, there's a heavy proportion of transfers on the Pirates, which sounds right with the nickname.

Lucy Olson is legit. I got to see Lucy up close when Villanova played at Oregon State. Lucy was a force. Extremely athletic, so much so, that she hangs in the air for days and releases at the top of her jump effortlessly. Also very clutch. Other than JuJu, Lucy is the best basketball athlete that OSU has faced to date this season. GO NOVA
