Whatever happens, this isn’t on Cooke. If we catch balls in the OF he’s out of the inning with no runs.
It isn't but it's been obvious for a while that he was rattled. Penders should have been prepared

Not Cooke’s fault, but Penders left him in too long. It’s tough for any pitcher to get 5 outs. There is way too much game left to think you are safe with any lead.

And for the record, I still see nothing wrong with trying to get about 25-30 pitches out of Peterson

If AP can get us 4 outs, we still have Chudoba and Afton to get us to Willis.

But this is like playing in Fenway. We just have to keep scoring.

By the way — great effort from Cooke. His OF let him down.

The defense has gifted them life in this game. I hope Peterson has a few innings in him. Shut this down now and keep swinging the bats.

Well I was wrong, Penders hasn't learned his lesson apparently. Awful awful decision here

Brady Afthim warming in the pen. Peterson gets a fly out to end the inning, nice catch by Simmons. 9-5 UConn.

Simmons with some redemption with a great catch.

We’re up 4 after 4 and a half, and have far more pitching left. This wasn’t going to be easy but you would gladly be in this position.

Amenities please;

Out of curiosity, which lesson are you referring to?

Bottom 5th, Simmons with a leadoff walk, another pitching change. Savacool threw 109 pitches Saturday night for Maryland, is now pitching.

To not throw a starting pitcher on 2 days rest after he threw 109 pitches on Friday
The lesson Penders hadn't learned was to not sit and do nothing while a big lead disappears.

There is nothing wrong with Peterson throwing an inning and a third (or slightly more if they are low pitch outs). He would have at least one throw day (possibly two as starts are a week apart) from last Friday until his next start. This can replace that.

I agree on the first part too. But I couldn't possibly disagree more with your 2nd paragraph. It's a major major issue. The throw day comparison is a really bad one, it's not remotely comparable

I'm not going to derail the thread and post anymore because it's an enjoyable game. I love Jim Penders and what he's done for UConn baseball, but this is a big black eye for him and he continues to put UConn pitchers in harm's way with these choices. I hope Peterson fares better than past UConn pitchers who have done this
