After looking up the details on the FCS Northern Colorado Bears, I have to believe we backed off because of others we liked better or the Bears' HC, Ed McCaffrey convinced him he knows what it takes to make it in the NFL.
Sure UConn has been a mess, but dropping the opportunity to play for a former NFL HC at an FBS school with a challenging schedule to play at an FCS school with a former NFL player as the coach doesn't quite add up.
The Bears play in 8533 seat Nottingham Field, average 4,000 to 5,000 per game, with the ten highest attended games ranging from #10 in 1998 with 7135 fans to #1 in 2005 with 9145 fans there to see Cal Poly.
McCaffrey had two years experience coaching a HS team in CO and was hired by the Bears for the 2020 season but they didn't play because of Covid. In 2021, his first season actually coaching in college, the Bears were 3-8 so there's probably lots of playing time.
It's also a real family affair at Northern Colorado.
McCaffrey's oldest son, Max, is the WR Coach at Northern and his third son, Dylan, a 4 star and the highest rated QB in CO in 2017, went to Michigan where he played very little and transferred to Northern where he started as QB and had a so-so year for the 3-8 Bears in 2021.

So this was pretty much my big hope today… that we’d land a QB that could come in January to get to work with this program. And can’t say I am too surprised we had to wait part of the day to see action because Cale might have wanted to see if Mora has a couple other QBs up his sleeve creating a new log jam.
This is a huge relief. Spring can now be productive. Steven Krajewski can be productive too this spring, but we need a new alpha and we need it now.

Could probably play tackle though he's a little shorter than you like out there but moves really well. They lined him up wide to block on wr screens.

I feel Kurt Warner is just a major presence in Arizona and the southwestern states. Coaches - like Mora - know him; and he has often trained/developed young QBs. Now it is his son. He is a proud father and this Eli is gonna land somewhere. He has options.

the National news is so far beyond Storrs that ... it might as well be Pluto. SEC were 7 of the top 15 classes; etc etc. Major pickups at Texas & Texas A&M and Florida's new staff did well.
Rutgers? Seems to be beyond where they have been. Top 4 stars from NJ and PA; and then a good Florida grab. Penn State per usual. BC? best ever by ratings ... not far from top 25. Buffalo and UMass? nothing too shocking imho
US? A damn good day. Leaped into recommits of the top HCRE targets plus some. A good Transfer or 2 or 3. What are we watching: George Steele (he has some interest from others out of Jacksonville State) and Nico Schwikal (think the German can be a solid aggressivor at LB) and Will Knight (all time rushing yardage leader out of Delaware w a 950y FCS year can fill a complimentary role).

the UMass class was something. Dont think many of them had FBS offers. Hope they develop well.

Personally, I think Will Knight is one of the most important recruits in this class. All time HS rushing leader in Delaware. FCS Freshman All American at UDelaware. Averaged 7.4 yards per carry. Leading rusher at Garden City Community College with 6.5 yards per carry. Now 5'11" 225 lbs.

Knight - he has YouTube interviews in hs - is modest and articulate. Why he started at ODU then Delaware then Garden City doesn't matter to me. He is a first back or complimentary to Carter et al. And a good contrast to what we have. A productive guy with a motor.
